weirdly quirky premise
4 March 2024
In Greenwich Village, Jean Newton (Ginger Rogers) thinks that sidewalk artist David Grant (Ronald Colman) is lucky. She proposes going halves with him on a sweepstake ticket. She needs the money to marry fiancé Freddie Harper (Jack Carson). He counter-proposes using some of the prize to go on a platonic trip for them two before her wedding. They win the $150k.

The premise is a bit weird. Some may say that it's downright quirky. It's a quirky start to a quirky love triangle. It's so quirky that it's a bit fun. I don't know if any of it makes emotional sense, but I can live with it. Freddie agreeing to the agreement ends up being weirdly hilarious. The actors fit. Ginger Rogers gets to huff and puff and be cute doing it. She is great and fits the screwball comedy. The only problem is that I'm not sure about either guy.
