2001 Maniacs (2005)

Quite a gory dark bizarre comedy

Warning: Spoilers
Described by many as a horror film, 2001 Maniacs is quite bizarre, over the top yet does offer some unpredictability. The first act moves relatively slow as we are introduced to the lead characters then picks up a little bit once they get to the bizarre village.

From there it becomes somewhat more gory as we see each death of the visiting characters die one by one. Some clever and very graphic death scenes, including the first involving a woman being tied to ropes with two horses ripping apart her body. Other deaths would include weapon usage.

The ending was rather off as the two remaining protagonist are left to escape freely. Afterwards slightly confusing as we see them drive to contact help telling an officer about this bizarre place. Not much was explaining further on as to what really occurred. Are we to believe everything which occurred didn't really occur? Then one of those village characters appear leading to causing the death of the two leads. Yet as he walks, he vanishes? Perhaps different interpretations can be had but mostly was rather confusing. Overall as a film it starts genetics and bland but becomes increasingly more entertaining.
