Schmaltzy.doesn't begin to cut it, the two lead actors do incredible work by lifting a Sunday afternoon praisefest into a better film.
However it's let down by the clunky story.
Fall out with god because your wife died? Then god will smite you and yours, return to god and then fabric makes an ideal helipad (leaving aside the obvious entanglement risk) It wasn't terrible and the children did well.
What really showed up the whole thing was the actual footage of the helicopter rescue which showed it taking place in broad daylight, still conditions and just snow on the ground. I'm not doubting the urgency but was it really that dramatic?
