Kung FU Panda 4 was a movie I was looking forward to. Jack Black was returning and I was getting anticipated for it since I love the first trilogy so much and it holds a special place in my heart. And after seeing this one... yeah I was disappointed with it. This film should have been better, and I thought it was going to be great considered that this movie is one of the films in the Kung Fu Panda series. Sure the voice acting is great as usual, but someone like Viola Davies deserves to have a good role like the other three villains. Which the Chameleon fails in all levels, how is she a great villain like Tai Lung, Kai and Lord Shen... she isn't because, she was small... we have viper and mantis who are smaller than her, yet they both were great at fighting. Her motive made ZERO sense, to me and the audience. I couldn't even wrap my head around it, why though couldn't they put more effort in her that made her up to par with the rest of the villains. She could have been a better villain, like use the other villains to taunt Po. The thing is this was an absolute wasted potential. Shapeshifters are one of the most interesting kinds of characters because they give you unlimited routes on how you can write them. To make that kind of character uninteresting is an absolute gut punch. The writers really took the least interesting way to write the villain and she is so disconnected from the cast and movie. And don't get me started on why he needed to get replaced already as the dragon warrior, already at this movie. I would have love to see a pass of the torch at the 5th or 6th movie, but it was to early for me. And sadly I didn't feel a strong connection to Zhen at all (It has nothing to do with Awkwafina) they just wrote the character (to me) generic a bit. You have to make me feel a connection between her and Po, but it didn't. It still had funny moments and it has great action sequences... but other than that, it is a weak film of the series. 6/10. It's not bad.... but it is disappointing.
