Laura (Penélope Cruz) returns to Spain, along with her two children, to attend her sister's wedding (Inma Cuesta). Her husband , an Argentinian (Ricardo Darín) who is very loved in the town of Laura, stays in Buenos Aires for the money he had donated for different works, including the church. After dancing with Felipe at the wedding reception, Irene complains that she does not feel well and goes upstairs to sleep. Later that night, Laura goes to check on Irene only to find she is missing.
