The print I saw of Canyon Hawks is short about 10 to 15 minutes I reckon, no doubt butchered for broadcast on early television. A lot of B westerns had that happen to them back in the day. But I doubt they'll be a demand for a director's cut.
Yakima Canutt who did stunt work for so many movie cowboys from John Wayne on down stars in this one. Canutt is a cattle owner who just as soon shoot sheepherders on sight. But he tells young Buzz Barton to move his sheep within an hour.
But later when he meets Buzz's pretty sister Rene Borden, he's an immediately changed man. Now they can stay as long as they want to and he'll even deed them a section of his property. Of course the other cattleman aren't happy and therein lies the movie.
Which we've seen God only how many times before and since. Nothing truly new here and the film's story is butchered to boot.
