Bill Nye the Science Guy is about to educate and inform a lot more people the fun way again. Netflix is giving him a brand new talk show series set for Spring 2017. Bill Nye the Science Guy was a half-hour science program that aired on PBS and other networks from 1993-1998. It was a successor to things like Watch Mr. Wizard, Mr. Wizard's World, and Beakman's World. The show was great for a lot of reasons, the most important of course being that it got people engaged with learning science. The second, for me at least, was that it was hosted by a "geek" who was "cool." That might sound funny but as a kid who hid her geekiness, it was nice to see someone not just getting attention for theirs but paid for it. IndieWire reported this morning that the new series with Nye will be a talk show...

Clip It: Each day, Jon Davis looks at the world of trailers, featurettes and clips and puts it all in perspective. In the '80s, I watched A-Team and Dukes of Hazzard, which were the Breaking Bad and The Wire of its time. That's not true, actually, I'm just trying to say I wasn't a particularly discerning TV viewer back then. Still, I couldn't get into MacGyver. I didn't find it realistic. I found Knight Rider and Alf perfectly reasonable, so take that for what's it worth. I think it's because I've never been a handy person. If the dishwasher is broken, I pretend like I don't notice so that whoever uses it next might be the one who fixes it. Meanwhile, MacGyver can make a helicopter out of a trash can or whatever. It takes a toll on my sense of masculinity, I won't lie. So when I saw...

David Letterman will bid farewell to his Late Show tonight with a surprise-filled (and Foo Fighters-featuring) finale, but before the late-night legend says goodbye to airwaves, take 45 minutes to remember Letterman at the onset of his 33-year career. Decider unearthed Letterman's incredible debut episode of his Late Night NBC program from February 1, 1982, which featured guests Bill Murray and Donald "Mr. Wizard" Herbert.

Drake proved last night that he hasn't let those Degrassi acting skills grow rusty during his hosting stint on Saturday Night Live, channeling a range of characters from a dorky dad at a slumber party to a smitten high school student in detention and a weed-extoling Katt Williams, in addition to packing in Nothing Was the Same tracks as musical guest. The rapper started off on a strong foot, playing Alex Rodriguez in the Piers Morgan cold open, announcing his plans to sue everyone from Major League Baseball to steroids...

Saturday Night Live returned this weekend with Drake as the host and musical guest and newbie Sasheer Zamata making her debut.
Piers Morgan Cold Open
Taran Killim starred as Piers Morgan in Saturday Night Live’s cold open. First, he interviewed a fittingly brash Chris Christie (Bobby Moynihan) talking about “Bridgegate.” Drake then made his debut as A-Rod, discussing his suspension from the Mlb and how he's suing everything and everyone – including steroids and Jackie Robinson. The cold open concluded with Justin Bieber (Kate McKinnon) explaining why he threw eggs at his neighbor, mugging for the camera the whole time. “The yolk’s on me baby.”
Drake Bar Mitzvah/ Opening Monologue
For his opening monologue, Drake started by talking about Canada, and made a crack about the Toronto mayor smoking crack. He also apologized for Yolo, called out Degrassi and focused on his being Jewish. The monologue concluded with Drake back at his Bar Mitzvah,...

If millennials are looking for a sign the ’90s have returned, look no further than the resurgence of Science Guy Bill Nye. Recently, the television fave of any kid who has ever had a substitute science teacher has been making his way back into the public eye, with appearances on news programs and a far-too-short stint on Dancing With the Stars this season. Now, he’ll play himself and join the nerds of Big Bang Theory in tonight’s episode of the CBS comedy, which will also feature the return of Professor Proton (Emmy-winning Bob Newhart).

Did you hear about Nintendo’s almost-decision to yank the live stream of Evo 2013′s Super Smash Bros. Melee portion from the internet entirely? Were you enraged? Personally, I wasn’t all-too-furious, but I can definitely understand why it ruffled more than a few people’s feathers. Though ultimately the decision was reversed and the live stream restored, it turns out the whole thing could have been much, much worse.
In an appearance on OneMoreGameTV, Evo co-founder Joey Cuellar (apparently his nick-name is “Mr. Wizard,” though I can’t in good conscience condone the use of magic in front of muggles) shared his thoughts on the situation and how it was handled, revealing that Nintendo at one point wanted to shut down the Melee portion of the event entirely.

The Heart of Bruno Wizard
Directed by Elisabeth Rasmussen
UK, 2013
The lyric repeated with unintended irony over the end credits of The Heart of Bruno Wizard has the eponymous rock star sing, “What does it matter in the scheme of things?” The question is applicable to this debut feature by filmmaker Elisabeth Rasmussen; conceivably a learned fan of the 70s underground punk movement that fostered such acts as Mr. Wizard’s subversive The Homosexuals, Rasmussen has turned in an admiring tribute to an admittedly charismatic though hardly royal musical figure, without explicitly detailing any sound reason as to how his documenting is truly warranted.
The documentary begins with a run-through of the free-spirited underground scene that permeated London in the 70s and 80s, taking us through to the present day where we encounter many of those characters of old profess “all of us are still true to ourselves”, whilst wrapped up in rather expensive-looking coats.

Knock, knock, knock. Sheldon. Knock, knock, knock. Sheldon! A really classy star is on his way to the Big Bang Theory set to see you. His name is Bob Newhart and his comedic timing is the stuff of legend. I can’t wait to see how he’ll interact with this crazy, nerdy bunch, Sheldon in particular.

Fringe was one of the best TV shows that no one was watching. (All right, that a few very loyal people were watching.) When it began five seasons ago, the show was ostensibly about Agent Olivia Dunham, who was recruited to a special “fringe” division in the FBI, institutionalized scientist Walter Bishop, and his estranged son, Peter. The trio became a team, and while the show eventually mutated into something weirder and grander and more wonderful than fans ever could have expected, its main characters never lost sight of their ultimate goals — trying to solve the increasingly strange crimes they come across and preventing (or causing) the end of the world time and time again. A mix of cop show procedural and Mr. Wizard–type scientific wonder, it’s worth looking back at what made Fringe, whose series finale airs tonight, so memorable. It killed its darlings. In season one,...

Finally, fall is in the air, which means soon enough you’ll be delighting in all the things that make the season great: pumpkin pie, apple-picking, and the always-forgiving earth tones. Don’t get ahead of yourselves, now — we didn’t say we’re ready for snowstorms and Christmas shopping, just some nice cardigans and a piping-hot chai. And, of course, you can finally curl up under your blanket with your iPad, giving you another reason to stay in bed a little longer this weekend. While you’re at it, you might as well scroll through our list of the top ten videos from this week on the internet. In part 2 of their Mr. Wizard videos, YouTubers Mike Schuster and Diane Bullock cut together some of the the host’s most canotakourous moments, all of which feature him saying mean things to children. He’s like a nasty Mr. Rogers, or your favorite ornery grandfather who makes fun of you at Christmas. Watch below!
Here are my three favorite bits:
1. He tricks a girl into spraying herself in the face with water.
2. He snaps at a robot when it accidentally interrupts him.
3. “You know you can do this at home yourself, you don’t need to come over to my house to do it.

Breaking Bad went pretty literal with this week’s episode, in which an actual freight train rolled over one of the meth masters – and that was one of the least harmful events that took place during the hour. The full Frank Ocean interview with The Guardian is out, and it's worth a read. Several passages really stuck with me, but I really liked this one about why he put the liner notes out like he did. "It was important for me to know that when I go out on the road and I do these things, that I'm looking at people who are applauding because of an appreciation for me. I don't have many secrets, so if you know that, and you're still applauding … it may be some sort of sick validation but it was important to me. When I heard people talking about certain, you know, 'pronouns' in the writing of the record, I just wanted to – like I said on the post – offer some clarity; clarify, before the fire got too wild and the conversation became too unfocused and murky." Words of wisdom more than a few celebrities could learn from.

R.L. Burnside first recorded at age 40, remained obscure until 65, and was a legend at 75. Born on November 23, 1926 in Oxford, Mississippi, he spent most of his life in his rural native area, where he worked as a sharecropper as late as 1979, though he lived in Chicago and Memphis for short periods. His appearance in the Robert Mugge/Robert Palmer 1992 documentary movie and soundtrack album Deep Blues and his acclaimed 1994 Fat Possum album Too Bad Jim seemed to come out of nowhere to catch the attention of not only blues fans but also the underground rock crowd. But R.L. (pronounced "Rule" by his friends) had been on an Arhoolie compilation LP in 1967, and as his fame rose, several pre-Deep Blues albums reappeared with wider distribution.
Where did Burnside's striking style come from? The decline of the Mississippi sharecropping system and the region's subsequent economic slump led to many railroad lines being discontinued.

Bill Nye "The Science Guy," our own twenty-first-century Mr. Wizard whose powers of mentation seem to be connected to his trusty bow tie, returned to the man-caused-climate-change-denying Fox network on Monday, after previously explaining to Happening Now host Jon Scott that no, of course volcanoes on the moon aren't connected to the burning of fossil fuels. This time, Nye joined Fox Business personality Charles Payne on Freedom Watch to discuss whether Hurricane Irene is "proof" of global warming. Nye thought that word a little strong, and said "evidence" or "result of," sure. As a scientist not used to blindly, stubbornly arguing a position simply on ideological grounds, he explained that "many months" of sophisticated computer modeling would be required to arrive at a more definitive climate picture. Whether or not wild weather is "the new normal," [...]...

I will spare you the "'SNL' is Dead" post that seems to arrive at the beginning, the middle, and the end of each season of "Saturday Night Live" since 1979. It may not be very good, but it's not dead. It's not dying. "Saturday Night Live" will continue on as long as NBC exists. It owns the 11:30 slot on Saturday nights. It attracts huge celebrities. It's what a large percentage of people with nothing better to do on a Saturday night watch. Nobody watches "SNL" expecting great television. We watch "SNL" hoping for one, maybe two great sketches. Some weeks, we're blessed with three. Many weeks, we don't get any at all. But even when it's terrible, we watch so we can say it's terrible. It's part of the national discourse. If I asked you to rattle off a list of actors that you think are hilarious, it would probably take you a long time to drop Jesse Eisenberg’s name. Now, that’s not because Eisenberg isn’t a really strong comedic actor (because he is!); rather, it’s that his mannerisms and delivery are often created with the intent to underwhelm. By that, I mean his wiry frame and nervous energy don’t immediate bowl you over with laughter like comedians with tremendous physical chops or extreme levels of charisma and confidence. Instead, he relies on blending awkwardness with intelligence in order to sell his material. So, how does someone whose comedic tendencies lean towards the understated perform as host of Saturday Night Live? Quite well, in fact! Seth Meyers and Lorne Michaels made a wise decision and played to Eisenberg’s strengths; throughout the evening, he played a...

Last night’s installment of Saturday Night Live, hosted by The Social Network‘s Jesse Eisenberg (with musical guest Nicki Minaj), featured a number of skits that would’ve been funnier at half the running time. In particular, Kristen Wiig’s cold open, “Michele Bachmann experiencing technical difficulties,” and a Mr. Wizard’s World spoof with young teens learning about the joys of heavy petting via a static electricity lesson, featured moderately funny setups that suffered from diminishing returns as the scenarios droned on without the benefit of unexpected twists or any true escalation.

Last night's "SNL," was short on highlights, basically another waste of a perfectly good guest host. But Mark Zuckerberg showed up, there was a good "Mr. Wizard" skit, and Tyler Perry's news segment was the night's highlight.
Here are the "highlights."
Michele Bachmann Cold Open
So much promise frittered away. That's the best you can do with Michelle Bachmann?
Jesse Eisenberg Monologue
Mark Zuckerberg makes an appearance. Funny, a little awkward, and Zuckerberg's a terrible actor, but then, he's Mark Zuckerberg. He doesn't need to know how to act. He has more money than NBC.
Mister Wizard
Oh, Sweet Maria. This one was funny. And Mr. Wizard!
Herb Welch
Briefly funny, but only when Hader loses it.
SNL Digital Short: The Creep
John Waters introduces this week's Digital Short, but it's not otherwise worth watching. It's not only bad, but it's painfully ear-wormy.
Weekend Update: Tyler Perry
"... and Cicely Tyson as Bill Gates.

Facebook founder meets onscreen alter egos Jesse Eisenberg and Andy Samberg, while Minaj rocks the stage and hilarious sketches.

Jesse Eisenberg just scored an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Facebook wunderkind Mark Zuckerberg, and on "Saturday Night Live" he got the chance to share the screen with his real-life inspiration.
After Eisenberg prattled on about how confident he is in comparison to the characters he often plays, Andy Samberg crashed "The Social Network" star's opening monologue as a bratty version of Zuckerberg. The two compared their Zuckerberg styles — Eisenberg speaks in short sentences, while Samberg just wears a sweatshirt and says "I'm Mark Zuckerberg" — while the real social media whiz chopped it up backstage with "SNL" executive producer Lorne Michaels. Eventually, the 26-year-old billionaire took the stage, and when it was revealed that Eisenberg and Zuckerberg have never met, Samberg quipped "Awkward!" and ran off. Zuckerberg...

Yay, Mark Zuckerberg showed up! We had our fingers crossed that Zuck would show up to interrupt slash sabotage Jesse Eisenberg's "Saturday Night Live" hosting gig, and it turned out that the rumors were true. So that said, let's just apologize in advance for the sheer number of times the word "awkward" is going to be used in tonight's "Saturday Night Live" recap, shall we?
Eisenberg proved himself to be a more than capable host, though we were sort of hoping he'd take on a Michael Cera impression... seeing as he's essentially stolen the kid's career. All in all, though, Eisenberg will definitely go down as one of this year's most successful hosts. Yes, he's awkward - but he works his awkwardness like a pro. An Oscar-nominated pro.
We've noted some of the show's highlights below - and, sorry spa lady, but we're choosing to ignore the boring parts.

I’m pleased with the way Supernatural has been progressing. While the previous seasons had a relatively laid out story arc, (i.e. Find John Winchester, Defeat the Yellow Eyed Demon, Stop the Apocalypse, etc.), season six has left me wondering, “where on earth are we going?”
I’m okay with that, especially because the past four episodes have been moving the story along. Sure it’s been slow, but we are gathering pieces of the puzzle every time. We, the viewers, essentially have been placed in the point of view of Dean Winchester.
I know he wants answers, but nothing comes that easily. Besides, it would be boring if everything were spoon-fed to us.

On the Season 6 premiere of "Bones," fans will see a side to Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) they're not used to. Our clinical heroine exhibits hints of jealousy.
No, it's not obvious, and Brennan may not even realize it herself, but there's a notable seed of envy when Booth (David Boreanaz) returns from Afghanistan, smitten with another woman.
Zap2it caught up with Deschanel at Fox's fall premieres party, and the actress had some thoughts on her character's potential emotional thawing. "She feels something, but she doesn't understand what's happening," says Deschanel. "She's covered her emotions so much, and built this wall around her. I think there's jealousy there, but she'd never admit it to anyone else and certainly she wouldn't admit it to herself. I don't even think she can let that happen."
