It seems that there are ever more ways to stay connected from afar. The pandemic forced us to come up with creative ways to do practically everything from home, but the flood of new gadgets makes it a little challenging to find that one perfect, multifunctional video calling device. Facebook has entered the fray with its Portal — a cheaper alternative to the Amazon Echo series, and some discounted iPads.
It might seem like the new kid on the block but Facebook Portal and Portal+ have been around for a few years, although they underwent a revamp to improve on some of the design and functional shortcomings (more on that later). Below, are a...

Warren Berlinger, a busy character actor whose numerous roles made him one of TV’s most familiar faces from the Kraft Theatre golden age through the Grace and Frankie streaming era, died Wednesday at the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia, California. He was 83.
His death was confirmed by daughter Elizabeth. A cause has not been announced.
With a cherubic face that could seem simultaneously amiable and, along with the hint of an accent from his native Brooklyn, mischievous, Berlinger was a go-to actor for supporting and sidekick roles for decades, both in film, and television.

American actor best known for her roles in The Poseidon Adventure, Blue Denim and Bunny Lake Is Missing
Carol Lynley, who has died of a heart attack aged 77, emerged as a young star in the late 1950s, when Hollywood was becoming aware of the growing teen audience who identified with new actors such as Lynley, Sandra Dee, Tuesday Weld and Sue Lyon, who all played similar coming-of-age roles.
Lynley’s poignant portrayal of a 15-year-old girl who finds herself pregnant and seeking an abortion in Blue Denim (1959) broke new ground, despite Hollywood’s lingering puritanical mores. The main differences between the play, by James Leo Herlihy, in which Lynley had appeared triumphantly the year before on Broadway, and the film were that, on screen, the word abortion is never uttered and the girl has the baby.

Carol Lynley, best known for the 1972 disaster movie The Poseidon Adventure, died on September 4. She was 77.
The actress, who was born in New York City, died “peacefully in her sleep” at her Pacific Palisades home.
Her daughter, Jill Selsman, said in a statement the actress “loved the industry and she was equally a great fan of the movies.”
“She loved working in film as much as she loved going to the movies. I saw everything as a child with her,” Selsman, a director, said of her mother’s love for film and television. “She was curious about the world around her, loved to spend time with interesting people, of all stripes and was generally a very peaceful person. Very live and let live.”
Lynley was also a “life-long fitness person” and a yoga practitioner since the 1970s “when everyone still made fun of it,” Selsman said of her mother.

Actress Carol Lynley has died from a heart attack at age 77. She began her career as a child model before gravitating to the movie industry. With her stunning looks, Lynley showed great potential in an era in which studios groomed starlets to become full-blown stars. Lynley gained fine notices for her starring role in the 1959 drama "Blue Denim" in which she and Brandon DeWilde played middle-class teenagers dealing with the secret of her unintended pregnancy in an era in which such scenarios were met with repression instead of compassion. Prominent roles followed including "Hound Dog Man", "Return to Peyton Place" and "The Last Sunset" in which she co-starred with Hollywood icons Rock Hudson and Kirk Douglas. Other major films of the 1960s include "The Stripper", "Under the Yum Yum Tree", "Shock Treatment", "The Pleasure Seekers", "The Maltese Bippy", "Danger...

Actress Carol Lynley, whose popularity in the 1960s and ’70s grew with films Return to Peyton Place, Under the Yum Yum Tree and Bunny Lake is Missing, as well as TV appearances in some of the most watched series of the era while peaking with 1972’s disaster film classic The Poseidon Adventure, died Tuesday after suffering a heart attack at her home in Pacific Palisades, CA. She was 77.
Her death was announced by her friend, the actor Trent Dolan.

Actress Carol Lynley, best known for her role in the 1972 film “The Poseidon Adventure,” died at her Pacific Palisades home Tuesday after suffering a heart attack, according to her friend, actor Trent Dolan. She was 77.
Lynley began her career as a child model, appearing on the cover of Life magazine at the age of 15, before starring in Disney’s “The Light in the Forest” and the independent film “Holiday for Lovers.” Shortly after, she secured a breakout role in the 1958 Broadway play “Blue Denim” and its subsequent film adaptation, in which she played 15-year-old Janet Willard tasked with figuring out how to undergo an illegal abortion.
The play, written by James Leo Herlihy, received immediate criticism for its laissez-faire attitude toward abortion, leading to a revised ending in the film that sees Janet go through with her pregnancy. Despite the controversy, the role earned Lynley a nomination for a Golden...

Let’s go back to 1959, when just implying that two teenagers might have first-hand knowledge of sex is socially unacceptable dynamite. This adapted play about an unwanted teen pregnancy is actually quite good, thanks to fine performances by Carol Lynley and Brandon De Wilde, who convince as cherubic high schoolers ‘too young to know the score.’ And hey, the teen trauma is set to the intense music of composer Bernard Herrmann.

Billy Wilder directed Sunset Blvd. with Gloria Swanson and William Holden. Billy Wilder and Charles Brackett movies Below is a list of movies on which Charles Brackett and Billy Wilder worked together as screenwriters, including efforts for which they did not receive screen credit. The Wilder-Brackett screenwriting partnership lasted from 1938 to 1949. During that time, they shared two Academy Awards for their work on The Lost Weekend (1945) and, with D.M. Marshman Jr., Sunset Blvd. (1950). More detailed information further below. Post-split years Billy Wilder would later join forces with screenwriter I.A.L. Diamond in movies such as the classic comedy Some Like It Hot (1959), the Best Picture Oscar winner The Apartment (1960), and One Two Three (1961), notable as James Cagney's last film (until a brief comeback in Milos Forman's Ragtime two decades later). Although some of these movies were quite well received, Wilder's later efforts – which also included The Seven Year Itch...

Teresa Wright and Matt Damon in 'The Rainmaker' Teresa Wright: From Marlon Brando to Matt Damon (See preceding post: "Teresa Wright vs. Samuel Goldwyn: Nasty Falling Out.") "I'd rather have luck than brains!" Teresa Wright was quoted as saying in the early 1950s. That's understandable, considering her post-Samuel Goldwyn choice of movie roles, some of which may have seemed promising on paper.[1] Wright was Marlon Brando's first Hollywood leading lady, but that didn't help her to bounce back following the very public spat with her former boss. After all, The Men was released before Elia Kazan's film version of A Streetcar Named Desire turned Brando into a major international star. Chances are that good film offers were scarce. After Wright's brief 1950 comeback, for the third time in less than a decade she would be gone from the big screen for more than a year.

Let’s take a detour, a very hard left turn to be more precise, from the noisy Summer block busters and head to the independent side streets of cinema. And, as is usually the case, the side street is in New York City. This is another quirky comedy about an off-kilter, free-spirit trying to make a life for herself while rebelling against adulthood as her 20′s come to a close, the same territory treaded by Party Girl and Frances Ha. Oh, and perhaps she can hook up with a good guy along the way. The heroine of this new film faces a complication that sets her journey on a different path than many of those previous “indie” movie icons. That’s because some very tough, very adult decisions are in store for this Obvious Child.

"Zac's a very successful guy and I think there's a few people in the business and world that when you say their name in Kenya someone knows who that is," Teller explained to the press.
He continues, "He's experienced something that I never have. I don't wish that level of fame on someone. Especially at a young age it's tough to deal with."

She's had her fair share of criticism throughout her time in Hollywood, but that hasn't stopped Hayden Panettiere from loving her bod.
While promoting her involvement in Blue Jeans Go Green's "Great Denim Auction," the 24-year-old actress shared details to FOX411 about constantly being in the spotlight.
"There is a lot of pressure that comes with it. But there's also the pressure to be a good role model for women and have a normal, healthy body," the "Heroes" beauty stated.
Miss Panettiere adds, "But I love being my height and size, and representing a normal girl and a different body type."
Hayden is among 12 other celebrities, including Britney Spears, who has donated their old pair of jeans to the auction.
The auction was created to help raise awareness about textile recycling and to help Blue Jeans Go Green collect its one-millionth piece of denim.

5) Dutch Uncles “Flexxin”

With the same level of commitment to selling a song as Thom Yorke, singer Duncan Wallis oozes cool when he busts some moves in this indie ode to dance. Whilst I’m not usually a fan of dull back drops or performance based videos, the black background works in Wallis’ favour. The simple visuals and right amount of well executed cuts compliment this chirpy, indie pop tune perfectly. Both channeling their inner Napoleon Dynamite, I would love to see Yorke and Wallis have a dance-off.
4) Young Fathers “Romance”
Dir: Young Fathers
There is not enough well done black and white videos out there. It’s a hard thing to perfect, some videos look great stripped of colour but they aren’t that visually interesting (Lana Del Rey’s “Blue Jeans” is the first example that springs to mind) but with “Romance” this isn’t the case at all.

Lana Del Rey dropped a new album sampler on her YouTube channel, so we listened and wrote down some memorable lyrics. Born To Die: The Paradise Edition features nine new songs and three bonus tracks. All the oldies (relatively) are included too ("Born to Die," "Blue Jeans," etc.).
Take a look and let us know what you think in the comments. Watch the video above, if you're into four-plus minutes of Lana staring into the camera with an amazingly vacant expression.
1. You can be my photon, baby.
2. My p---y tastes like Pepsi Cola, my eyes are wide like cherry pies.
3. Elvis is my daddy, Marilyn's my mother, Jesus is my bestest friend.
4. Just like a baby, spin me around like a child.
5. Be young, be dumb, be proud. Like an American.
6. In a land of gods and monsters, I was an angel.

When last we checked in with Lana, she was playing Jackie (and Marilyn) with the very handsome A$AP Rocky in the video for "National Anthem." That did not turn out so well, because of, you know, history. Before "National Anthem," she was hanging around an abandoned pool with some creepy-looking figure in the "Blue Jeans" remake; we're not totally sure what happened there, but the scene didn't exactly bode well for Lana. And "Born to Die" showed her reenacting some sort of weird cult driving ritual with yet another deadbeat (and some tigers). So, here we are at the video for "Summertime Sadness," in which Lana Del Rey yet again finds herself at the tail end of a particularly disastrous relationship — this time with the actress Jaime King (who is really working that red-tiered maxi dress). At least there are lovey-dovey Instagram flashbacks this time? They were happy once,...

So far on Comedy Bang! Bang!, the show has allowed the guests to supply much of the comedy, with Scott Aukerman and Reggie Watts there to work their own brands of humor in sparingly amongst all the craziness. For example, with last week’s episode “Michael Cera Wears a Blue Denim Shirt & Red Pants”, most of the major laughs came from the usual awkwardness of Cera and the over-the-top portrayal of the Cake Boss by Paul F. Tompkins. While this week’s episode “Seth Rogen Wears A Plaid Shirt & Brown Pants” doesn’t gain gigantic laughs like last week’s episode did, it’s a welcome change to see Aukerman and Watts bringing a majority of the big humor, even if it doesn’t always work.

Call me a slow poke, but I literally just discovered how awesome Lana Del Rey — or Elizabeth Woolridge Grant — is. And yes, I had probably stumbled upon her name a trillion times way before her stunning strut at the Met Gala and still had absolutely no interest in looking her up (God knows why!), but needless to say, I'm officially hooked. Whether it is her husky, soulful voice, her characteristic facial features (those lips!) or her talented making of music videos by meshing unrelated antique footage together, Del Rey's old-Hollywood-meets-stoned-modern-pin-up-gir package (with a drop of awkwardness) has totally captivated my heart — and I don't care what you haters have to say about her lip implants or SNL bullshit!

The remix and sampling potential of Lana Del Rey's "Blue Jeans" seems endless. The newest to hit the internet is by Smims&Belle featuring Azealia Banks.
The hyped-up house remix is more of a sample than a remix; featuring a majority of raps from Banks. Banks is an incredible artist and her raps add enough edge to bring the track down from its electronic high horse. The grimy raps and laser techno make it is easy to imagine the track playing in a dank, laser-filled basement.
Smims&Belle is made up of Mark Foster and Isom Innis from Foster the People. The duo released "Blue Jeans" as the first track in their DJ endeavor, and it's looking good so far.

Where is yours?). This one — an uhnz-y take on "Blue Jeans" — features fellow Internet sensation and noted limbo enthusiast Azealia Banks, who drops in to duet with a bunch of laser sounds. The matchmakers in this situation are Foster the People's Mark Foster and Isom Innis, who are now working the D.J. angle under the name "Smims&Belle," and if nothing else, you have now heard of their side project, so points for them. For a song that’s already been in the top 50 since (seemingly) the last decade and only troubled the top 10 once, the anticipation for the Take Care video was hardly going to be sky-high but for those still holding out for more legs-akimbo dancing and innuendo-laden milk carton spillages (as previously seen from these two in the What’s My Name video) I’m sure you’ll be appeased. I mean just hear those Jamie Xx produced beats, all that steel drum-ness wafting around lovelorn lyrics – it’s got to be set in the Caribbean, right? Probably at sunset, holding melons or something. Oh ok, now you’re excited.
