Stan and Hilda return on a milk float, tired and worn out, much to the amusement of Len and Ray. The pensioners decide to meet in the Rovers to decide on their form of protest. A saddened Maggie tells Len that Gordon's decided to work at the head office in London. An angry Elsie catches up with Dave and tears into him for not telling her he's married. He tells her Lillian's coming up from London. Elsie doesn't know why she rang her. Hilda is annoyed when Annie gives her work for the day to Alice when she claims she's. Ena, Minnie, Alice and Albert form an OAP action committee. Len tells Elsie about Arthur Green and she realises he was employed by Lillian. The lady herself arrives at the Betting Shop and recognises Elsie from a newspaper photograph she saw at the time of Steve Tanners' inquest. Gordon meets Lucille by appointment at Jackson's Chip Shop to say goodbye. She tells him that he's doing the right thing by leaving and he lets her keep her engagement ring. A frantic Hilda discovers Stan has hidden an Inland Revenue bill from her for £42, 8/4. He isn't concerned about it. Elsie worries about Lillian and tells Dave about Green. He tells her about the history of his marriage. The pensioners decide on a protest march after Ena brushes off Annie's unwanted advice. Gordon goes for leaving drinks. Maggie tells him she's doing the right thing by letting him fly the nest. Elsie refuses to tell Len if Lillian has anything on her. Dave tells Elsie that Lillian wants a divorce on terms of adultery, citing her.
Mon, Apr 14, 1969
The pensioners meet in the OAP Clubhouse to plan their march and a petition. Dickie and Audrey worry about Minnie taking part. Len tells Elsie he believes her when she says there was nothing between Dave and her. Stan and Hilda ask Ken's advice about the tax demand. Ken tells him that he can appeal against it and the Inland Revenue will probably reduce the sum claimed. Stan doesn't want Ken seeing his financial affairs. Dave tells Lillian that if she drops the co-respondent claim within the divorce things could be better for her. To raise money, Stan takes a job as assistant barman at the Rovers. Len tells Ena that their protest won't work but she's not moved. The pensioners gather their banners and gather outside the Weatherfield Town Hall front entrance to the surprise of the police. Ena goes inside with the petition as the rest remain outside singing We Shall Overcome. Lillian tells Elsie she might not be citing her but gets no thanks. Ena emerges to cheers but tells the crowd the petition was too late and they're pulling down the clubhouse tomorrow. She organises an immediate sit-down protest in the middle of the road and refuses to be intimidated by the threats of Constable Wilcox. Len and Ray make fun of Stan as Annie cracks the whip. She makes Stan pay for all his "staff drinks". A Police Inspector threatens Ena with forcible removal. Dave tells Elsie she's riled Lillian. Stan drank more than he earned. Hilda doesn't know what they're going to do to find the money. Ena is physically picked up out of the road and taken to the police station to be charged.
Wed, Apr 16, 1969
Len tells Elsie that Ena only got a caution. Elsie worries that her name will get in the papers over the divorce. The OAPs meet in the OAP Clubhouse to discuss next steps and Ena insists they're going to have a sit-in to stop the bulldozers doing their job. Ray enjoys winding up Dave about how much the divorce is going to cost him. Dickie and Audrey collect supplies for the pensioners from the Rovers. Dave fetches Lillian from the pub to discuss business. The pensioners start to prepare to bed down for the night, preventing Ray from collecting a washbasin he's already paid for. A bulldozer arrives to begin work. Dave tells Lillian he's defending the divorce. The pensioners refuse to move. Dave tells Lillian that Emily was lodging with Elsie all the time he was there and she'd be his principle witness. Stan pins his hopes and last sum of money on a horse which fails. He has to confess to Hilda. To dodge the tax, Stan makes the business over to her. Len makes another attempt to dissuade Ena but fails. Annie tries to find out who Lillian is but doesn't succeed. Alice looks forward to spending the night with Albert in the clubhouse. He doesn't. Ken, Dickie and Audrey wish the pensioners all the best as they settle down for the night. Alice stops Ray getting in with Albert's connivance to get at his washbasin. Ena expels Albert from the clubhouse and Alice regrets saying anything. Dave tells Elsie he's contesting the divorce to save himself £2,000 a year. She's furious as to where that leaves her. Lillian finds out that Hilda is the local gossip and starts to buy her drinks. She's delighted to discover she's Elsie's neighbour.
Mon, Apr 21, 1969
After a successful night, the OAPs are in no mood to give up. Ray offers to contribute to their "fighting fund" in return for the washbasin. Ena refuses. Reggie James asks Emily to get the pensioners to the vicarage so he can mediate. She gets bottles from the Rovers to entice them out. Lillian offers to pay Hilda for information about Elsie. They agree to meet later. Annie is appalled that Hilda would stoop so low. Elsie needs to speak to Len but he's gone on holiday. Emily goes through the police lines but Ena refuses to leave the clubhouse and invites her inside instead. Lillian pushes Hilda for information. Stan tells her to steer clear of trouble but she refuses, saying they need the money. Hilda discovers from Ray that Stan still has to pay the tax. Ken tells Val to keep out of Elsie's problems if the divorce hearing goes ahead. A nervous Mr Ironfield from the council turns up, hoping to deal with the pensioners. Hilda sells the round to Ray and he agrees to take on the outstanding debts. Stan's delighted. Hilda tells Lillian she doesn't want to get involved in a divorce case. An angry Emily joins the sit-in when the council refuses to budge. Mr Ironfield is instructed to start threatening legal proceedings against the pensioners. Stan discovers Hilda has thrown him in with the deal and Ray is now his boss. Ray orders him out of the pub and on his round. Maggie threatens Dave that Elsie could say "yes" to all the charges and he'd have to pay the legal costs.
Wed, Apr 23, 1969
Annie discovers the brewery is holding a 'Perfect Landlady' competition. Dave tells Val to keep out of his business. Maggie tells Lilian that if Dave were to die, Elsie would get the lot. The OAPs win their fight and the clubhouse is saved. Lillian agrees on more money from Dave each week, and no divorce. Annie drives the customers mad with niceness. Elsie refuses to pick up again with Dave. Ray asks a delighted Annie if they can nominate her for the competition.

Val is angry when Ken invites her mother, Edith Tatlock, to stay over the operation period.

Val goes into hospital. Edith Tatlock arrives and she approves of the maisonette. Ray gets Connie Robinson to pose as a pub landlady and ropes Ena and Elsie in to con Annie into starting an organist and hotpot. Dickie is too frightened to go to work. He tells Ray how Eddie Goulden wants him to fix the machines for him. Annie gets depressed as she receives no post from the Brewery. Audrey tells Dickie he's not to go back to the arcade but he reminds her of the £200 on hire purchase. Ena tries to get Len to get the arcade closed but he refuses. Annie gets a telegram telling her she's won the competition. Jack refuses the prize of a trip to Majorca; he's not flying. Audrey warns Eddie with the police if he touches Dickie. Val asks for her job back at the shop but Maggie tells her that her sister is coming to stay and help run the shop. Annie asks Ena to go with her to Majorca, knowing that she can't because of the shop job. Ena agrees, to Annie's horror. Ena and Annie leave together.

Hilda wonders what Cyril Turpin does for a living but no one's met him yet. An amused Lucille returns the library books - "Beer Brewing for Beginners" and "How to Make Your First Million" - after Stan "loses" them in Dave Smith's Betting Shop, aware of what he's up to as they were taken out on 9 July 1964 and she knows that he could be in for a hefty fine and a court appearance. Val's good night's sleep hasn't improved her temper but she tells Ken she will try not to take offence at anything that Edith says. She finds her resolve tested when her mother makes comments about cleaning the kitchen. Hilda has her first spat with Betty. Jack offers Betty the barmaid job but she says she'll have to consult Cyril first. Jack warns Elsie about giving away £300 on the spur of the moment but she won't change her mind. Betty meets Lucille who introduces herself as the girl who Gordon jilted. Annie sends a postcard from Majorca. Betty brings Cyril into the Rovers and he buys drinks but upsets Elsie when he recognises her in connection with Steve's death. Jack gives Len the money but he refuses it. Cyril agrees to Betty being a barmaid but insists on proper contracts for both before and after Annie's return. Len tells Elsie about Jack's "offer" and she advises him to accept it. Val hurts Edith when she won't let her take the twins to the park. Ray returns the library books to Stan after seeing him "drop" them in Inkerman Street. Len accepts the money. Cyril puzzles Len and Jack when he refuses a drink on the house as "duty calls". Elsie asks Len for a night out but he refuses as he has other plans. Val gets annoyed with Edith when she disturbs the twins routine with a bedtime story. Edith's had enough and starts packing. Hilda asks Maggie's advice on her idea of posting the books to Australia. Betty suggests she asks Cyril for help and Hilda is stunned when he appears from the back in full police sergeant's uniform and takes possession of the books. Val refuses Ken's pleas to stop Edith leaving and her mother departs without saying goodbye.
Mon, Jun 9, 1969
Minnie has received a postcard from Ena saying she's returning at 10.00am, a week early, and gets supplies in. Hilda tries to spread gossip about Edith but Betty knows more than her on the subject. Minnie alarms Jack by saying that Annie is also returning. Cyril tells Stan that there will just be a fine on the books, no other prosecution, but his bike outside the front of the house has several illegal things wrong with it. He goes on to annoy Len and Ray when he points out the state of the yard's gate lock and van. Ena returns, full of complaints about Majorca, but without Annie. Stan gives Ray the bill for the bike repairs as he's the business owner. Hilda is annoyed again when Betty beats her to the gossip about Ena's return. Elsie winds her up by saying Betty is after Stan. Ena tells Jack that Annie just fancied another week in the sun but confesses to Emily that's it's something more serious. Ray tells Len that a woman has been calling for him and their bills are piling up. Len refuses a drink or a meal with a puzzled Elsie. Ena tells Emily that Annie spent all her time with a mysterious man in Majorca and says she's got a wax-sealed letter from her breaking the news to Jack. She refuses to hurt him by giving it to him but Emily doesn't like the deception. Betty tells Jack she'll look after him in Annie's absence. Len asks Jack for another £50 but he refuses. Stan is fined 15 shillings for each book. Hilda dons a blonde wig to make herself attractive to Stan but he takes no notice. She accuses him of chatting Betty up and insists he takes her out. Val tells Ena she regrets parting on bad terms with her mother. Len tells Elsie he's busy with Council business. Ray can't get supplies from the building wholesaler as the bank account is empty. Len takes Elsie into the Rovers but leaves immediately when he sees the time, astonishing her. Cyril gets Stan to play Betty at darts. Jack asks an uncomfortable Emily to post a card to Annie, letting her know that he's alright.
Wed, Jun 11, 1969
Emily tries to get Hilda to help more in the Rovers in Annie's absence but she refuses while Betty's behind the bar. Emily tells Ena she doesn't like their deception and hopes that she's wrong about the contents of the letter. Betty makes breakfast for a grateful Jack and suggests he takes the morning off with a game of bowls and also the afternoon to watch cricket. Val tells Elsie that she and Ken are at loggerheads over Edith. Elsie buys a birthday card for Paul's eighth birthday. Jack is annoyed when Len says he can't get shut of Elsie. Ray takes Betty on at darts. Jack tells Elsie what Len said. Alfred Tatlock rings Val about her mother. Betty beats Ray at darts, losing Stan a bet. Elsie rips into Len. He apologises, claiming it's the pressures of the past few weeks and invites her to dinner. Val hears her mother has taken to her bed, crying, but she refuses to go and see her. Ray tells Stan he's thought of a way of recouping his losses but Hilda isn't pleased. Elsie asks Ena's advice about Len's behaviour. Ena thinks he's going to propose to her. Emily is annoyed when Betty disagrees with her ideas of meals for Jack. Cyril tries to persuade Emily that the police are not as unpopular with young people as she thinks. Ena tells Minnie she's doesn't like her maisonette. Cyril is hurt when customers leave the Rovers when he walks in. Using Ray's idea, Stan gets Betty to agree to a darts game with Ted Loftus. Cyril makes Jack close on time, upsetting Stan who wants a pint after hours. Len takes Elsie to a posh restaurant where she anticipates his proposal. He tells her that he is thinking of marriage and the £300 was to do up his house. She is thrown though when he tells her it's to someone who she doesn't know but he hopes they'll get on when they do meet.
Mon, Jun 16, 1969
Emily hides Annie's postcard to Lucille from Jack when it arrives at the Rovers. He wonders why she hasn't written. He almost catches Ena and Emily talking about him. Elsie is down after hearing Len's news. Not knowing the reason behind it, Jack hears about her depression from Hilda's gossip and he goes to see Elsie. Annoyed with Len, he wants to tell him it was Elsie's money he was given. Elsie tells him about Len's proposed engagement to a girl named Janet Reid who he met at the Town Hall where she works. Elsie persuades Jack not to say anything as she thinks Len deserves real happiness. Ray guesses that Len has proposed and assumes it's to Elsie but is told not. The news spreads round the street. Ena, Minnie and Emily go to the funeral of an old friend, Carrie Bishop and drink to her in the snug afterwards. Len tells Elsie that he couldn't wait for her forever. He wants her to meet Janet and gets her to agree that he can bring her round in an hour. Elsie is left alone with Janet for a while when they are introduced. Janet blurts out that she doesn't love Len and is dreading him proposing as she can't think of a way to say no. Elsie is sympathetic but refuses to intercede on her behalf and makes her excuses not to join the couple for lunch. Carrie's funeral tea takes place in the Select. Her son, Ernie Bishop, thanks Emily for all she's done and asks her to join him at his camera shop as he wants her advice. Hilda warns Betty that Ted Loftus is a good darts player. Ernie shows Emily around his shop and tells her that he's looking for a caretaker with accommodation in the flat above. He upsets her when he mentions their old mutual friend, Leonard Swindley, not knowing of Emily's past history with him. Len goes out with Janet, seen off by a worried Elsie. Emily finds Ernie a caretaker but he is thrown when Ena tells him it's her. Len rings to book a table in a restaurant. Janet stops him and tells him she doesn't love him before running out on him. He is furious, thinking a jealous Elsie has influenced her.

In an effort to find where Elsie has gone, Lucille breaks into No. 11 and finds a piece of paper with a Scarborough phone number on it. She gives it to Ray. Emily finishes at the playgroup, and tells Jack she can't work behind the bar any more. Jack tells Ray of a building job at the Brewery but tells him they won't employ the Yard because of the incident over Jerry's accident three years before. Ray phones the number - it's Sheila Crossley's. Sheila lies to him and tells him that she hasn't seen Elsie. Emily and Ena decide to tell Jack about Annie. Jack gets a telegram from Annie demanding an answer to her letter. Sheila rings Ray and tells him Elsie is with her.
