Her brother, Marlon Minor, confirmed her April 8 death to The New York Times and said the cause had not been determined.
Jones moved from the Midwest in search of a film career, and became active in the UCLA film school, a movement that has been called the L.A. Rebellion.
She appeared in several short student films, including Child of Resistance (1973), in which she played an imprisoned activist loosely based on Angela Davis, and Diary of an African Nun (1977), adapted from a short story by Alice Walker.

For Gerima, Jones portrayed an imprisoned woman fighting for social justice in the 36-minute short film Child of Resistance (1973) — the character was inspired by activist Angela Davis — and a welfare recipient in Watts who undergoes an ideological transformation in the filmmaker’s feature debut, Bush Mama (1979). Popular and pre-existing IP has reigned supreme in Hollywood as most studios and streamers look to continue the success of former franchises for an easy win. But that’s not a trend Nicole Dow is aiming to pursue.
As the head of TV for Marsai Martin’s Genius Entertainment, her formula isn’t overly complicated. Dow breaks down their development slate into three specific categories: kids and family, young adult, and new adult.
The latter of which is a less explored territory. The genre first came about within the last 15 year — and only recently gained steam online with authors like Colleen Hoover (“It Ends With Us”) and Casey McQuiston leading the charge. As the name explains, new adult covers the emerging adult generation between the ages of 18-29.
“It’s the first foray into the world where your ego comes smashing into reality, or the cringe-worthy stuff that happens from...

In a recently published book, Liam Neeson reveals how Muhammad Ali once flirted with the actor's then girlfriend Helen Mirren. Neeson says he was so star-struck by the boxing legend he didn't care that he was trying to "pull" his girlfriend right in front of him, according to the Belfast Telegraph. Neeson, a huge boxing fan who was himself an accomplished amateur fighter, is club president of All Saints. He recalls stories of the boxing world in a recently published book celebrating the 50th anniversary of the club. In a forward to 'All Saint - 50 Golden Years' by sports writer Denis O'Hara, the co Antrim-born actor, tells how he met some of the greatest boxers in the world but the meeting which stood out was with Ali 30 years ago. “Emblazoned also on my mind was meeting Ali in London in the early 1980s," writes Neeson. “He was promoting a movie called,...

David Zelag Goodman (pictured, right), an Oscar-nominated screenwriter who teamed with Sam Peckinpah on the original "Straw Dogs," died Monday in Oakland, California after battling a brain disorder. He was 81. According to his daughter, Goodman died at an assisted-living facility of progressive supranuclear palsy. Goodman shared an Oscar nomination with Joseph Bologna and Renee Taylor for co-writing the screenplay for "Lovers and Other Strangers," a 1970 comedy based on the couple's play. His other credits include "Monte Walsh" (1970), a western starring Lee Marvin; "Farewell, My Lovely" (1975), an adaptation of Raymond Chandler's novel starring Robert Mitchum; Faye Dunaway thriller "Eyes of Laura Mars" (1978); and the sci-fi classic "Logan's Run" (1976). He also wrote episodes of TV's "The Untouchables" in the early 1960s and penned the 1979 miniseries "Freedom Road" starring Kris Kristofferson and Muhammad Ali, in which the boxer played an ex-slave in 1870s Virginia who gets elected to the Senate.
