Larry King Live hosted the first debate between Gerry Adams, leader of Sinn Fein, the political arm of the Irish Republican Army, and Ken Maginnis, security spokesman for the Ulster Unionist Party. It was the first time a protestant leader spoke publicly with a member of the IRA. The IRA was fighting for years against Northern Ireland being a part of the UK, while the Ulster Unionist Party wanted it to remain part of the UK. The debate was intense and unprecedented.
