Documentary ahead of its time!
joybells-15 July 2006
My husband worked with Al Giddings at his place in California during the filming of another movie prior to this, so we were aware this series was being worked on and were anxious to tape it when it did hit the airwaves. We ran across that tape just the other day, 21 years later! We've just finished watching it again and enjoyed it as much this time, if not more. Even the old commercials were fun to watch. I Googled Shawn's name to see what she was up to these days and was delighted to find a place to comment on a wonderful, exciting documentary which we frequently had talked about over the years but thought we had lost the tape. This documentary was the first time we heard about Giddings' theory of aggression keeping sharks at bay if you run into them - and living in Florida, that just may come in handy some day! I wish there was some way to get someone to run it again as I think a new generation of people would thoroughly enjoy it.

Scared and whacked - that's what I remember, too.

I can still picture her winning Ms. Universe when I was, oh... about 12 yrs old. It's amazing how you get hooked on one person and then want to follow their career!

You are completely right about this show. I, too, remember it as a kid. For some reason I remember her being scared to death when she put on the steel-mesh suit to swim with the sharks. I thought this was the coolest short-run series ever.

I tried to keep up with Shawn's career, but it took Baywatch (ironic!) to get her back near the water, or TV!

I guess now I have some other shows to try and rent.

Great Show

I loved this show! Shawn had it all over Jacques Cousteau! The underwater photography was fantastic!

We watched it every Sunday night.

I'd love to see it again.

Seeing all of the great sea creatures was a first for me.

In one episode, Shawn had to get in a shark tank after they had chummed the water. When the sharks started to hit her cage, she nearly levitated out of the water! It was awesome.

In another show, Shawn was "petting" a moire eel. it was very docile and the contrast of beauty versus the beast was striking.

I remember this show!

I cannot believe I remember this show - and somewhat well! - I remember seeing it when I was a little kid.

I believe that is when I became interested in oceans and how terrifying it must have been for Shawn. And then she went on to Police Academy. Perhaps it is the first reality TV? I remember her being scared to death of sharks as well as being whacked by a whale's fin.

Or I could be remembering this show badly. Does anyone else remember this show? It sure made the seas look glamorous! What is Shawn Weatherly doing lately? Wow!

Very cool show!

A minor miracle

Warning: Spoilers
I'm at that point in my life when I walk into a room and have no idea why I did so. For some reason over the weekend I started thinking about this show. I thought that Erica Eleniak had been the female celebrity and I spent an hour on Google trying, unsuccessfully, to find the name of the show. Then this morning, out of nowhere, it suddenly came to me?!? The scene that I remember about the show was when Sean was informed that, I think that her dad had passed away, and she had to leave the vessel. She did return and I just remember that she made the show. Does anyone know where I can watch it? X.
