Hellboy is officially headed back to the big screen. Deadline confirms that a reboot of the demonic hero, titled "Hellboy: The Crooked Man," is in the works at Millennium Media and Dark Horse Entertainment. The news was first broken by Discussing Film.
"The Crooked Man" will feature the third live-action iteration of Hellboy, following the ones played by Ron Perlman (in Guillermo del Toro's duology) and David Harbour (in Neil Marshall's 2019 reboot). The script is being co-written by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and his frequent collaborator Christopher Golden. Brian Taylor is set to direct. Deadline confirms that production will start in Bulgaria come March and casting conversations are well underway; according to Discussing Film, the studio is seeking a younger actor in their 20s or 30s to play the new Hellboy. That's because "The Crooked Man" takes place at an earlier point in Hellboy's life than previous movies — the 1950s,...

While 2019’s Hellboy reboot definitely didn’t open the door for a franchise, Millennium Media is going to try again, with Deadline announcing Hellboy: The Crooked Man, which the company hopes will be the franchise starter the last movie wasn’t. This Hellboy reboot is set to be directed by Brian Taylor, formerly half of the directing team Neveldine/Taylor. As a pair, the directors helmed the Crank movies, while Taylor, on his own, directed the pretty decent horror flick, Mom and Dad.
Deadline reports that the new film is set to be written by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola himself, alongside frequent collaborator Chris Golden. The pair will be adapting their own graphic novel, “Hellboy: The Crooked Man,” which was a prequel set in the fifties. As per Deadline’s description:
The new film will see Hellboy and a rookie Bprd agent stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia. There, they discover...

Exclusive: In what amounts to a re-teaming of Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman and Arnon Milchan, New Regency has become co-financier of two upcoming Sony films: The Girl in the Spider’s Web, the Fede Alvarez-directed thriller that stars The Crown‘s Claire Foy as Lisbeth Salander and bows in November, and the Greta Gerwig-directed Little Women that stars Emma Watson, Timothee Chalamet, Saoirse Ronan, Laura Dern and Meryl Streep and opens December 25, 2019.
Rothman and Milchan were regular partners back in the former’s days at Fox. The deal with Sony and MGM on Spider’s Web means Milchan’s producer-financier will have a flush of films hitting theaters in November: 20th Century Fox’s Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody hits theaters November 2, followed by Spider’s Web on November 9 and then Fox’s Steve McQueen heist thriller Widows on November 16.

There’s much to look forward to over the next year or so for fans of Sylvester Stallone. After agreeing to headline Rambo 5, which is currently set for a theatrical release next September, we also know that he’s officially locked in for The Expendables 4. That news came after much back and forth, with the actor’s alleged fallout with Nu Image/Millennium chairman Avi Lerner casting doubt over a possible fourth appearance from the cigar-chomping Barney Ross.
But even if there were traces of bad blood, it seems all is ok in The Expendables camp. Which is just as well, considering filming on the star-studded blockbuster is expected to kick off in Bulgaria. Though we initially heard that production would get underway as soon as this summer, we’re now learning that things have been pushed back a bit, with the pic said to be going in...

Sony Pictures have released the first trailer for ‘The Girl In the Spider’s Web‘, the latest cinematic iteration of author Steig Larson‘s Millennium saga. The reboot sees Claire Foy taking over the iconic role of Lisbeth Salander, with ‘Evil Dead‘ (3013) and ‘Don’t Breathe‘ helmer Fede Alvarez stepping into the director’s chair this time around. Although plot details are being kept under pretty tight wraps a this point, the film follows Salander and Blomkvist years after the events of ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo‘ as the two re-unite to uncover a new mystery from their own past.
The last time that we saw the character brought to the big screen was with David Fincher‘s 2011 big-budget remake of Larson’s original ‘Dragon Tattoo’ novel, but this trailer seems to be trying to differentiate itself from that film as much as possible, which is probably a good thing.

Claire Foy’s Lisbeth Salander certainly knows her way around a tangled web. In this new trailer for The Girl in the Spider’s Web — an adaptation of the bestseller from Stieg Larsson’s Millennium book series — vigilante Lisbeth snares her first creep with a simple but highly effective rope trick that would do any Batman villain proud.
Haunted by her past and driven by fury at abusive men (like the wife-beating CEO who gets caught up in Lisbeth’s top-of-the-trailer snare), the title character battles her way through any number of action-packed adventures in this first-look trailer.
Directed by Fede Alvarez (2016’s Don’t Breathe) from a screenplay adaptation by Steven Knight and Alvarez & Jay Basu, The Girl in the Spider’s Web also stars Sverrir Gudnason, Lakeith Stanfield, Sylvia Hoeks, Stephen Merchant, Claes Bang, Christopher Convery, Synnøve Macody Lund and Vicky Krieps.

I'll admit, when I first heard Hollywood would be moving on with The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo franchise without Rooney Mara in tow, I was ready to hate all over it. David Fincher's take on the tale was awesome for me, and I thought it was a huge mistake when Hollywood ended up dropping it. Now that I've seen the first trailer for The Girl In The Spider's Web, however, I'm feeling a bit differently! Claire Foy makes for an intense Lisbeth Salander, and in the little time we get to see her on screen, I think she outshines Mara's by far. Read the synopsis for the film, check out the trailer, and continue reading:

The first trailer for the “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” dropped on Thursday morning and it is nothing short of action-packed.
In the just over two-and-a-half minute clip, we’re introduced to “The Crown” star Claire Foy’s take on tattooed goth hacker Lisbeth Salander, who sets the stage by immediately taking justice on a male creep on her own terms.
“The Girl in the Spider’s Web” is the latest film to be adapted from the book series written by Stieg Larsson and is first to hit the big screen since David Fincher’s 2011 version of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” which starred Rooney Mara as Salander and Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist.
Noomi Rapace also previously played Salander in the Swedish adaptation of Larsson’s Millennium series.

An alien craft shaped like an artichoke? A vessel with breasts? Here's our pick of 15 of sci-fi cinema's most eccentric spaceships...
For decades, heroes have crossed the universe in rocket ships and modified light freighters. Aliens have conquered galaxies in disc-shaped craft of varying sizes.
Yes, as long as there's been science fiction on the silver screen, spaceships have captured our imagination, from the matinee serials of the 30s to the sci-fi blockbusters of the present.
We all have our own idea of what a great spaceship should look like. For some, it's Han Solo's fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy, the Millennium Falcon. For others, it's the more graceful USS Enterprise, or maybe the utilitarian craft of 2001: A Space Odyssey. But what about cinema's more unusual, outlandish spaceships? The ramshackle ones, the anachronistic ones, the ones that look a bit rude, or just plain scary? Those are...

Crime doesn’t pay. Except, apparently, when it does. The kidnapping case of Alfred "Freddy" Heineken in the 1980s became famous for resulting in the biggest ransom for one person in history. And now the incident has been brought to the screen, with the first trailer for Kidnapping Mr. Heineken arriving via Yahoo.Daniel Alfredson, who worked two of the original Millennium Trilogy TV movies, has directed this one, with Anthony Hopkins suiting up to play the target himself, Freddy Heineken.Sam Worthington, Jim Sturgess, Ryan Kwanten, Mark van Eeuwen and Thomas Cocquerel are playing the men who hatched the scheme to swipe Freddy and hold him hostage. But despite a carefully crafted plan, things didn’t exactly go their way: while Heineken and his driver Ab Doderer were eventually released after payment of a 35 million guilder ransom, the criminals were eventually caught and served prison terms. One version of...

The 2012 Billboard Music Awards (TV) were held on Sunday night, as music's biggest stars gathered at The MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas to celebrate the year's chart-topping achievements and pay tribute to some of their own. The show opened with a performance by electro-pop duo Lmfao and was hosted by Modern Family (TV)'s Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen. Adele was the top winner of the evening, scoring a total of 12 awards including Top Female Artist - though you'd never know it by watching the telecast. As is becoming more and more common, the majority of awards are not even handed out during the show in an effort to make room for more live performances. Lmfao ended up winning the second-highest amount of awards with six, and Lil Wayne and Cold Play each earned four. After a moment of silence to honor the passing of Bee Gees' singer Robin Gibb,...

If Brave doesn't hit the target, a reborn Bourne just might. Here we look at this year's big-budget crowd-pleasers
Absorbed at a glance, the list of coming summer blockbusters always seems exciting. That's the point: these are not the year's subtlest or most profound films but they're the loudest, brashest, costliest pulse-quickeners on the annual programme. Trouble is, despite a level of anticipation carefully nurtured by the big studios during winter and spring (posters, billboards, teasers, trailers, tie-ins, tweets, featurettes, adverts, apps – everything but Will Smith himself coming round to scream taglines through the letterbox) the end result is so rarely a good summer's cinema.
There have been magical years. Oh, to go back to '96, with its headlining Independence Day and Mission: Impossible, backed by serviceable romps Twister and The Rock. Or to resummon 1982, when filmgoers must have wandered, happy and bewildered and increasingly hungry, in a never-ending circuit of screens showing E.T.,...

With the Star Wars saga out now on Blu-ray, Terence looks back at the original 1977 film, and examines the disparate elements George Lucas brought together…
The original 1977 Star Wars film arrived on Blu-ray this week, along with the rest of the original trilogy and its prequels. News of the release has once again brought George Lucas into the center of a fan controversy about special editions versus original editions, and the issue of yet more obsessive tinkering. At the same time, though, the Blu-ray release is also a good opportunity to look back at what Lucas’ landmark first Star Wars film did give us.
Quite simply, Star Wars was the world’s first mash-up.
Originally a technical term to describe the mixing of disparate elements in website design, the mash-up concept quickly spread to music and, with the help of YouTube, to the cutting together of different movies to make something entirely new.

The Music Room (Criterion) Satyajit Ray’s 1958 masterpiece looks at the life of a fallen aristocrat as a metaphor for an India that is not only becoming Westernized, but modernized technologically and culturally beyond recognition. When the beloved music room, where he has hosted lavish concerts in the past, starts falling into disrepair as attendance drops steadily, the man realizes his way of life is vanishing. Stunningly shot in black & white, one of Ray’s finest works. Bonuses: Documentary on Ray from 1984 by Shyam Benegal; Interviews with Ray biographer Andrew Robinson and filmmaker Mira Nair; Excerpt from 1981 roundtable discussion between Ray, critic Michael Ciment, director Claude Sautet. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Full screen. Dolby 1.0 mono.
Beauty And The Beast (Criterion) Jean Cocteau’s sublime adaptation of the classic fairy tale become a beloved classic upon its 1946 release, and hasn’t faded since.

"The girl who kicked the hornets' net"; starring Michael Nyqvist, Noomi Rapace, and Lena Endre. Directed by Alfred Danielson.
By Lita Robinson - February 13, 2011
Daniel Alfredson, director of the second “Millennium” film (“The Girl Who Played With Fire”), has delivered again with the final installment of the Steig Larsson/Lisbeth Salander trilogy, “The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets' Nest.” “Fire” ended with a cliffhanger: the never-say-die heroine—Salander—had just narrowly escaped another attempt on her life before being rescued by celebrity journalist Mikael Blomqvist. “Nest” picks right up in the middle of the action; Lisbeth is airlifted to a hospital where it soon becomes clear that both her supporters and her would-be assassins are all still hard at work. Chaos, full of intrigue and adrenaline, ensues.
If “Nest” moves a bit quickly and crams a lot of material into every scene, it’s not Alfredson’s fault. The third...

Stevie Wonder hits the UK, Toy Story goes 3D, and it's the last ever Big Brother – our critics pick the unmissable events of the season

Stevie Wonder
Anyone who can't face braving Glastonbury to see the Motown legend's Sunday-night set can head to London's Hyde Park for this headlining show. It's likely to be heavy on the hits, but a little too heavy on the audience participation, if complaints from disgruntled punters at Wonder's recent shows are anything to go by. And be warned: Jamiroquai seems to have been enticed out of retirement to provide support. Hyde Park, London W2, 26 June. Box office: 020-7009 3484.

This beloved Scottish festival is prized as much for its atmosphere as its lineup. And they're certainly wheeling out the big hitters this year: Eminem, Muse, Kasabian, Jay-z, Black Eyed Peas, Florence and the Machine, La Roux, Dizzee Rascal and Paolo Nutini,...
