The Cult have shared two new songs under their Death Cult moniker, “Flesh and Bone” and “C.O.T.A.”
The tracks come after The Cult’s Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy revived the early incarnation of the band for a recent tour. Death Cult originally emerged from Asbury’s first band Southern Death Cult in 1983 once the singer joined forces with Duffy (eventually morphing into The Cult in 1984).
Described as post-punk/deathrock, Death Cult’s sound is a bit murkier and more cryptic than the big stadium-ready bombast Astbury and company injected into The Cult. As heard on “Flesh and Bone,” the band balances subdued instrumentation with harsher crescendos and a feeling of unease, which is even more palpable on the sparse, drum-machine-based “C.O.T.A.” (an acronym for “communion of the animals”).
The new songs are available digitally and on a 7″ vinyl single titled “Death Cult – 8323” that’s included as...

Twilight Time brings the famed musical romance The Fabulous Baker Boys to Blu-ray for the first time, the late 80’s classic which snagged a small clutch of Academy Award nominations as it became one of the decade’s most iconic titles. Hailed by critics at the time for its disassociated ambience with the age of excess, the film still feels as equally unfettered to any particular period. The first of only two films to be directed by Steve Kloves, a striking casting is lorded over by an unforgettably scintillating Michelle Pfeiffer in one of her most notable early roles. The title’s sterling reputation may have outgrown the film’s quiet demeanor, a rarity in that it still remains difficult to succinctly classify. It’s exactly this resistance to not just two decades worth of cinematic expectation since it first wooed audiences, but also its challenge to our limited means...

The drama — which returns Saturday (9/8c) and follows drug boss/aspiring nightclub mogul James “Ghost” St. Patrick (played by Omari Hardwick) — will lose “someone that we have been invested in” this season, creator Courtney Kemp Agboh tells TVLine.

The last time Outlander viewers spied Jamie Fraser, he was bloody, broken and likely hoping death would arrive swiftly, if for no other reason than to stop the tongue bath administered by his depraved nemesis, Black Jack Randall.

I have a feeling that the membership of Petjammf — that is, People for the Ethical Treatment of James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser — will have grown significantly by the end of this week’s Outlander.
How could it not, especially when Mr. Claire Beauchamp is nearly hanged, only to be saved by evil incarnate (aka Black Jack Randall), offered a terrible proposition and forced to relinquish the love of his life and then some in exchange for her safety?
It’s a rough hour, and I wish I could say it ends on a happy note, but most of us know that isna likely.

“Flesh and Bone” apparently costs an arm and a leg. Season 1 of the upcoming Starz show proved to be more expensive than the premium TV channel’s typical limited-run series, and even on par with pricey undertaking “Black Sails.” Cost, logistics and creative challenges proved so taxing that Starz changed courses and elected to make “Flesh and Bone” a limited-run series as opposed to a standard seasonal one. The switcheroo topic was a hot one on Thursday’s Starz earnings call, which followed the company’s release of strong first quarter financials, driving stock Strza to an all-time high. “That move she makes makes her utterly vulnerable,” Verbeek tells TVLine. “It really does. It’s a completely different side of Geillis… than we see at first when she’s being...

Aw, rats.
And darkness. And seeping damp. And the bone-deep certainty that death is but a few hours away.
What are: Things Encountered in the Thieves’ Hole by Outlander‘s Claire, Who Maybe Should’ve Listened to Jamie and Kept Away From Her Sketchy Friend Just This Once?
This week’s episode is a big one for both Oldlanders (those of you who read Diana Gabaldon’s book and therefore knew what was coming) and Newlanders (those of you who likely were gobsmacked by the end of the trial/end of the episode double whammy).

Claire Fraser has a whole lotta problems, and a witch is one.
This week’s Outlander finds Jamie’s inquisitive wife getting caught up in Geillis Duncan’s murderous drama, and it’s no real spoiler to say that Lady Broch Turach’s plight will get much darker before it gets better.
Because with Jamie away on a Colum-ordered mission and Claire getting hauled into a police carriage with her accused murderess of a pal, life at the end of the episode is nowhere near as bonny as it is at the start.
Those first few moments, by the way?...

Starz’s new mystery series The Missing is pulling a True Detective. After the show’s first season received widespread critical acclaim (including Golden Globe nominations for best miniseries and best actress in a miniseries for Frances O'Connor), the premium cable network has opted to pick it up for a second season of 8 episodes, which will feature a new case, new characters and a new location.
No specifics about the second season have been announced, and it’s unknown if Conroy or any other actors from the first season will be returning in new roles (seeing as The Missing is much more grounded than the campy American Horror Story, I’d guess not). The Missing‘s first 8 episodes focused on a father (James Nesbitt) devastated by the disappearance of his young son during a family vacation in France, who spends years searching for him at the high cost of his...

Starz has picked up the Evil Dead TV show.
The series will be based on the original film franchise that made its debut in the late '70s. Bruce Campbell, who starred in the three movies and made a cameo in the 2013 remake, is back in his role as Ash, a monster hunter.
The show will also reunite original director Sam Raimi and producer Rob Tapert.
"I'm really excited to bring this series to the Evil Dead fans worldwide - it's going to be everything they have been clamouring for: serious deadite ass-kicking and plenty of outrageous humour," Campbell said.
Raimi added: "Evil Dead has always been a blast. Bruce, Rob, and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash's lame, but heroic saga.
"With his chainsaw arm and his 'boomstick', Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there's a truckload of it.

It’s a good time to be Starz right now. The premium cable network’s new scripted offerings have been met with considerable success, particularly recent arrival Outlander, which received 3.7 million views when combining Starz’s free sampling campaign of the pilot with actual premiere numbers. No longer can Starz simply be considered a lesser HBO; from Black Sails to Power to Outlander, the network is taking steps to cement its status as a home to top-tier programming. Now, Starz has handed a straight-to-series order to another project bound to boost its rep – The One Percent, from Birdman director Alejandro González Iñárritu.
The premium cable network has picked up 10 episodes of the drama, which is toplined by Ed Helms, Hilary Swank and Ed Harris. Set in the world of organic farming, One Percent focuses on Alfred Murphy (Helms), a member of a dysfunctional family struggling to keep their farm from financial ruin,...

Starz, "Hannibal" show runner Bryan Fuller and "Heroes" producer Michael Green are teaming for FremantleMedia North America's adaptation of Neil Gaiman's 2001 award-winning urban fantasy novel "American Gods".
The drama deals with on a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of biblical and mythological roots, to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs.
Starz has given the project a script-to-series commitment, with Fuller and Green attached to serve as show runners and executive produce alongside Gaiman. The project previously was in development at HBO, who ultimately passed on it.
'Gods' will now join Starz' increasing line-up of big-budget drama and genre projects like "Black Sails," "Da Vinci's Demons," "Power," and upcoming shows like "Outlander," "Flesh and Bone" and "The Missing".
Speaking of Gaiman, his long awaited video game "Wayward Manor" is finally set to go online on July 15th.

Starz has given an official series pickup to Survivor’s Remorse, a half-hour scripted comedy series executive produced by NBA star LeBron James, Mike O’Malley, Tom Werner, James’ manager Maverick Carter and Paul Wachter. I hear the order is for 6 episodes. The project, written by O’Malley, had been on fast-track development and considered a front-runner for the Q4 slot that became open in December when Starz pulled out of its commitment to Sky Atlantic’s upcoming drama series Fortitude. Survivor’s Remorse, which had assembled a small writers room and had started preliminary casting for the two leads in anticipation of a series pickup, will debut next fall. Its green light comes on the heels of Starz ordering ballet drama Flesh And Bone for 2015. Survivors Remorse is set in the world of professional basketball and explores the comedy and drama of what truly happens when you make it out.

There was lots of high drama on the high seas for the premiere of Starz‘s new series Black Sails on Saturday night. Debuting at 9 Pm Et, the Michael Bay-produced Treasure Island prequel pulled in 846,000 viewers, down from the 1.04 million that Da Vinci’s Demons drew for its April 12, 2013, debut on the cable channel but better than the 819,000 who tuned in for 2011’s Torchwood: Miracle Day. While premiering on a Saturday as opposed to a Friday like Demons, Black Sails also did not have the advantage of the series finale of Spartacus: War Of The Damned as a lead-in as Demons did. On the bigger Starz sea, Black Sails did fare better than the launch of miniseries White Queen (457,000 for its preview and 418,000 for its premiere last August 17) as well as the now-cancelled Magic City (295,000) and Boss (659,000). Starz has picked up a drama series called "Flesh and Bone" from "Breaking Bad" writer-producer Moira Walley-Beckett -- but the subject matter is far removed from the world of Walter White.
The series, which is to debut in 2015, centers on a talented but emotionally fragile ballet dancer and her fellow dancers in a ballet company in New York. Professional dancer Sarah Hay (above right with Walley-Beckett) has landed the lead role of Claire. Hay appeared in "Black Swan" as a member of the ballet company, but this will be her first on-camera acting role.
