Ever since it was originally announced in 2019, the MCU’s interpretation of the half-human, half-vampire monster hunter Blade has been in production hell. The character, once made popular by the 1998 film, portrayed by Wesley Snipes, has since had a revolving door of creatives and multiple pushbacks in terms of getting the project off the ground.
Bassam Tariq was originally set to direct, with Stacy Amma Osei-Kuffour writing the script, but Tariq left in early 2022 following creative differences. Yann Demange took over directing duties, while Michael Starrbury was brought on to rewrite the script. Later, both Nic Pizzolatto and Michael Green did additional rewrites.

Stellar Blade is looking to be a huge success for the South Korean game developer and Sony Interactive Entertainment. The ambitious atmosphere and design of the title were partly influenced by director Hyung-Tae Kim’s passion for James Cameron and his creative vision.
Despite working on different formats of storytelling, Cameron’s work was able to inspire other creatives like Kim and encouraged him to do something bold and daring. Shift Up leaped from mobile gaming to console and has much to prove to the gaming industry.

Marvel Studios has a knack for accidentally spoiling their own movies. Either by sending Tom Holland for interviews or by releasing merchandise of an upcoming film, Marvel Studios has oftentimes spilled their own secrets.

Many movies have explored the theme of a post-apocalyptic setting over the past couple of years. The same is also true for the gaming industry, which has seen the rise of this genre. While each of these game have a similar setting, all of them have something unique to offer.

The long-gestating sci-fi remake of Fantastic Voyage, which could pair James Cameron with Guillermo del Toro, is still on the cards, according to the Avatar director.
According to James Cameron, his long-gestating remake of Fantastic Voyage is still happening. That in itself is newsworthy given how long Cameron has been talking about this project. The filmmaker wrote a screenplay for the film decades ago, but in the wake of Titanic's success in 1997, he became transfixed with realising the alien world of Pandora onscreen and with the exception of a couple of documentary films, has only released two Avatar films in the quarter century since.
As far as Fantastic Voyage goes, Cameron’s plan has long been to produce the film, with Gullermo del Toro being the man to direct it. We’ve seen Cameron ‘godfather’ films before while working on the never-ending production of the Avatar films, not least...

Video games have gotten miles better than they used to be back in the 80s or 90s. Of course, this makes sense, given the fact that games have only gotten more narrative-heavy over the years. The upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive Stellar Blade falls into the same category: a narrative-heavy action game. It appears the game’s director put a lot of effort into making this game a well-written masterpiece.
While Stellar Blade has yet to launch, it is already surrounded by controversy about its protagonist’s design. People don’t care for its combat; they don’t care about its visuals, but they care a lot about how this character looks. Other than that, some people have also decided to compare it to one of the best-written games in recent history; the director says they are not very alike.

The "X-Men" movie "Dark Phoenix" was hurt by upheaval at its studio, 20th Century Fox. The film was developed during the merger between Fox and Disney; in fact, "Dark Phoenix" was released on June 7, 2019, early into the new management's tenure. During that theatrical run, it made only $254 million on a $200 million budget, ultimately losing $133 million in the worst bomb of 2019.
It's tempting to think Disney undermined "Dark Phoenix." The movie was released as a lame duck, the last product assembled before all Marvel properties were back under Disney's umbrella. Marvel Studios would've doubtlessly preferred not to inherit a completed "X-Men" film, so that they could get to work on their own versions of the characters (even if the Marvel Cinematic Universe has brought back some faces from Fox's "X-Men" movies since).
However, The Hollywood Reporter indicates there was another player who helped doom "Dark Phoenix" — James Cameron.

What to expect from ‘Avatar 3’
Cameron already knows the general direction he plans on taking the Avatar series in the third film. The director confided that the world of Pandora will be further explored, but with a new voice as a guide in the upcoming sequel. Sam Worthington’s Jake Sully ended up narrating The Way of Water. When James Cameron set out to adapt Yukito Kishiro's acclaimed cyberpunk manga "Gunnm," also known as "Battle Angel Alita," he made the decision to shelve the project for 20-something years until technology caught up to his requirements for the film's world-building. This is a quintessentially James Cameron thing to do, given that he is the kind of director who knows how to be patient enough until he has the best tools to translate his ambitious artistic visions into reality. By the time Cameron had access to the right kind of technology for the long-gestating "Alita: Battle Angel," he found himself preoccupied with "Avatar," a project that demanded meticulous dedication (and ended up altering the trajectory of performance capture technology in filmmaking forever). As a result, Cameron handed over the reins to long-time friend Robert Rodriguez, while still being involved with the adaptation as a producer and supervising its creative direction.

When James Cameron was first introduced to Yukito Kishiro's manga "Battle Angel Alita" in 1999, he fell so in love with the story that he began developing a movie adaptation barely a year later. Just read the manga and you'll see why Cameron was drawn to it. The story takes place in an apocalyptic future where humans incorporate technology into their bodies and become cyborgs — that's the story of "Terminator" too. The chance to realize such an out-there world in live-action must have also been a tempting challenge for a special effects wizard like Cameron.
Cameron was also likely drawn to "Alita" for its emotional core. The titular female cyborg falls for a young thief named Hugo, who desires to go to the hovering city of Zalem. When he tries climbing to it, he's picked off by the defenses and falls to his death. Losing Hugo and having to carry...

The tenth episode of "The Bad Batch" is called "Retrieval" and it's the second half of last week's episode. "Alita: Battle Angel" may not be everyone's preferred cup of tea, but there is a reason why the hashtag #AlitaArmy exists and is still thriving on Twitter long after the film's release in 2019. Based on the manga "Battle Angel Alita," the film follows Alita (Rosa Salazar), a reborn cyborg with a mysterious origin who has to adapt to an unfamiliar and exceedingly cruel world. The critical consensus on the film was not overwhelmingly positive, but everyone can pretty much agree on one thing — the visual effects in "Battle Angel" were fantastic, if not revolutionary. And the best part? It was not all digital, either.
Not unlike what the modern "Plant of the Apes" trilogy pulled off, "Alita: Battle Angel" combined practical effects with motion-captured, digital characters. Although Alita herself was completely CGI, many of the surrounding characters were not. In fact, several key sequences in the film took place in real-life sets,...

The 1990s were a bountiful time for fans of cyberpunk, that beautiful science fiction subgenre that deals in transhumanism, the dangers of corporate rule, and exploring the capabilities of artificial intelligence. Films like "Johnny Mnemonic" would introduce the cyberpunk concepts of the 1980s to a wider audience through the magic of the movies, but there are many other, less well-known cyberpunk creations that deserve some love. While it's not technically a movie, the 1993 anime Ova "Gunnm," released in the west as "Battle Angel," is about an hour long and was released in the U.S. on a single VHS, so it sure felt like a movie. It's also an excellent adaptation of one of the best sci-fi manga series ever that inspired James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez to do everything they could to make a live-action adaptation a reality.

When it comes to charting out meticulous plans for a movie concept, James Cameron is always one step ahead of the game. Cameron is the kind of director who would rather wait for the right circumstances than jump in on an opportunity with unfavorable odds. This led to projects being shelved until the right kind of technology came along, as it was important for Cameron to actualize his vision exactly the way he intended. As a result, when Cameron decided to adapt the Japanese cyberpunk manga "Gunnm" (also known as "Alita: Battle Angel"), he had to wait for 20-odd years for the right kind of technology to evolve.

In May 2006, Variety reported that Cameron had spent the past ten months developing technology to produce the film and it looks like he suceeded with the melding of live action and a CGI rendered character. From this first look, the main character in Alita: Battle Angel is reminiscent of 2001’s Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.

For many years, James Cameron wanted to adapt Battle Angel Alita, the 1990 manga series created by Yukito Kishiro about an amnesiac android. A few years ago, he and Fox finally got the dream project going with filmmaker Robert Rodriguez at the helm, and now it's actually been realized. The first trailer for the movie, titled Alita: Battle Angel, has arrived teasing a sci-fi action spectacular. This seems like a cross between The Bourne Identity and AI movies like Ex Machina, but with Cameron's work on the script combined with Rodriguez's vision as a director, it is very promising. The title heroine, obviously designed to resemble a manga/anime character, is unlike anything we've seen in a live-action movie before. Like most Cameron...

20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for Alita: Battle Angel. This movie has been a passion project for James Cameron over the last 15 years. He ended up handing over the directing reigns to Robert Rodriquez and today we have our first real look at what this creative team has envisioned for the film. Personally, I love what I'm seeing in this trailer and I can't wait to see more! The film is currently in post-production so I imagine the special effects are still being polished, but this is still an impressive first look.
The film is based on the graphic novel series Gunnm by Yukito Kishiro, and this is the synopsis that was released:

The first trailer for the Robert Rodriguez/James Cameron collaboration, Alita: Battle Angel, has arrived, showing the emotional side of the science fiction cyborg story. Come inside to take a gander!
Since 2000, James Cameron has been circling the Battle Angel Alita (the title of the popular Manga) project, and was supposed to film the movie back in 2005 before Avatar consumed all of his attention. The project stalled for nearly a decade before Robert Rodriguez was hired to direct the film, and now...we finally get to see some of it in action. The first trailer arrived today, and it definitely grabs your attention:
To be honest, I have absolutely no knowledge of the source material, so I can't say much about that aspect. From what I see, however, I'm incredibly eager to check out more. The slow soundtrack and focus on the emotional side of things provides an interesting contrast...

James Cameron has been developing a feature film adaptation of Alita: Battle Angel for years. He ended up handing off the directing duties to Robert Rodriguez, and after all the casting announcement things went quiet. After all these years of hearing about this movie, we finally have our first look in the form of a teaser. This is a very brief video that promotes a full trailer being released tomorrow.
The teaser offers us a couple close-up shots of the cyborg Alita looking herself over. It concludes with two scientists at the cyborg and then one of them says, “Well, look at you.”
The film is based on the manga created by Yukito Kishiro. The story is set in the 26th century, Battle Angel tells the story of Alita, "an amnesiac female cyborg who is rescued from a scrapyard by a doctor. The rebuilt Alita, remembering only her training in a deadly martial art,...

The long-planned remake of Escape From New York looks like it’s finally going to happen this time, after several false starts over the years. Now, though, the script is in the hands of Luther creator and writer Neil Cross, and he’s given an update on the project to Deadline. Turns out that the script is finally complete.
“Robert Rodriguez is attached to direct and it’s looking good and exciting”, Cross confirmed.

Robert Rodriguez is starting to load the film projects on his plate. He's currently in production on Battle Angel; it was announced a few days ago that he would be directing the Escape From New York Remake; and today we've learned that he's also directing an animated film called Ugly Dolls for Stx Entertainment, which is based on the toy line.
This would be Rodriguez's first animated feature film. I'm not really that familiar with the Ugly Doll toy brand, but it's a line of plush dolls featuring strange and colorful creatures. Here's a little explanation of what Ugly Dolls is trying to accomplish with their brand:
The brand is distinguished by its definition of the word "ugly." In the "uglyverse," "ugly" means unique and special, something that we should be celebrating, something that makes us different, and never hiding the "twists or turns" which make us who we are,...

Get ready to hack the ghost.
The groundbreaking anime that lead to countless imitators both live-action and in the realm of animation, Ghost in the Shell has long been thought of as a masterpiece. With the new live-action feature lifting sequences right from the pages of Masamune Shirow’s manga, its the perfect time to ask why has Ghost in the Shell influenced so many? And despite the hotly debated casting choices, how will this new adaptation possibly live up to the legacy of its fore-bearer?
The cyberpunk series first got its start from the mind of Masamune Shirow. Shirow had been writing Manga throughout the 1980’s including one of his biggest hits, Appleseed. Appleseed had all the trademarks of Shirow Manga; philosophical, hard science-fiction stories with adequately sexualized female characters. That played well toward a Western market that was just beginning to have access to Japanese Manga and Anime in the early 90’s. When...

Sin City director Robert Rodriguez has been brought on to helm 20th Century Fox's remake of John Carpenter's 1981 classic, Escape From New York. This seems like the type of movie that Rodriguez would want to jump in and make as it fits his style.
I'm not really keen on the fact that Escape From New York is getting the remake treatment, but we all knew it was coming. I guess Rodriguez is a decent enough director to come in and attempt to do something better than what Carpenter did.
Carpenter is on board to executive produce the project so the film obviously has his blessing, but why in the hell can't they come up with some new and original awesome movie shit! I hate that this is road Hollywood has gone down. At least Netflix is taking chances on the original movies that Hollywood is passing on.

Deadline reports that blood-drenched genre director Robert Rodriguez has been tapped to direct Fox’s remake of John Carpenter’s Escape From New York. Fox picked up the remake rights to Carpenter’s classic action flick two years ego, emerging victorious from a vicious bidding war.
It’s been three years since Rodriguez last helmed a major studio movie, the disappointing Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. Since then, he’s been focused on his own TV network, El Rey, the From Dusk Till Dawn TV show, and putting the pieces into place for his adaptation of anime classic Battle Angel Alita. That being said, if an Escape From New York remake is inevitable, Rodriguez feels like a better-than-average choice to treat Snake Plissken’s cinematic legacy with some modicum of respect. (Fingers crossed that he can get Carpenter to handle the soundtrack duties, too.)

Michelle Rodriguez teamed up with director Robert Rodriguez again in the James Cameron-produced film Alita: Battle Angel. They managed to keep Rodriguez's involvement in the film a secret all through production, and the news didn't get out until after the movie completed shooting.
According to EW, the actress plays a character named Gelda. In the comics, Gelda was a slim cyborg warrior and she was highly skilled in the art of battle. Ghost in the Shell is now beginning to make the final preparations ahead of its March 31st release, but there’s another high-profile manga movie incubating in Hollywood, and that’s Alita: Battle Angel.
Truth be told, it’s been a long, meandering road for the live-action feature film. Initially hatched as a James Cameron vehicle, Yukito Kishiro’s nine-volume manga soon fell onto the back-burner at 20th Century Fox as the director devoted most, if not all of his time and resources to fanning the flames of his Avatar franchise. The overriding message coming out of Fox was that Alita: Battle Angel was dormant, not dead, and after drafting in Robert Rodriguez at the helm, it didn’t take long before the project was whipped into shape.

I loved watching the TV show CHiPs when I was growing up, and now there's a feature film adaptation starring Michael Peña and Dax Shepard. The first trailer was just released for the movie, and you can tell that they tried to capture that 21 Jump Street movie vibe and humor, but it just doesn't hit that bar. I guess that's what happens when you aren't as insanely talented as Jump Street writers and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Maybe you'll like what you see in the trailer, though! I personally wasn't impressed. CHiPs was written and directed by Shepard, and this is the synopsis:
In CHiPs, Jon Baker (Shepard) and Frank “Ponch” Poncherello (Peña) have just joined the California Highway Patrol (Chp) in Los Angeles but for very different reasons. Baker is a beaten up pro motorbiker trying to put his life and marriage back together. Poncherello is a...

Though most of her scenes as Jubilee in X-Men: Apocalypse were cut, Lana Condor now has another big-screen adaptation that will hopefully make up for that injustice. According to Variety, she has just joined the cast of director Robert Rodriguez’s Alita: Battle Angel, joining Christoph Waltz, Jackie Earle Haley, Rosa Salazar, and Deadpool’s Ed Skrein—who is also a veteran of the X-Men universe. Based on Yukito Kishiro’s similarly named manga series (Battle Angel Alita), the film is set in a dystopian future and follows the adventures of an amnesiac cyborg as she becomes a badass bounty hunter.
Condor will reportedly be playing a character named Koyomi who is described as “an orphaned teen with connections to several characters.” That may not sound as cool as being a cyborg bounty hunter, but somebody has to play the orphan with connections to several characters. Either way, Condor is...

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Mahershala Ali is currently in talks to join the cast of 20th Century Fox's highly ambitious action sci-fi film Alita: Battle Angel. He'll portray Vector, one of the film's villains who runs and fixes matches in a gladiator-style combat game called Motorball. He joins a cast led by Rosa Salazar (Maze Runner: The Death Cure) as the title character, Christoph Waltz (Spectre), Jackie Earl Haley (Preacher), and Ed Skrein (Deadpool). Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) is helming the feature, which is an adaptation of Yukito Kishiro's popular manga series Battle Angel Alita, with 3x Academy Award-winner James Cameron (Terminator 2: Judgment Day) and Academy Award-winner Jon Landau (Avatar) on-board as producers. Ali is coming off a show-stealing turn as the villainous Cottonmouth in the Marvel/Netflix series Luke Cage and can be seen next this fall in two very different dramas: Moonlight and Hidden Figures.
