Better late than never. After the traditional Cannes Film Festival was cancelled last year due to Covid, the glitzy event is back with Covid protocols in order. Instead of taking place in May, the 74th annual gala opened on July 6 and will continue through July 17th at the glamorous French resort town.
Spike Lee, who was supposed to be jury head last year, was asked to take up the reigns of this edition. And he appeared on the legendary red carpet decked out in a striking pink ensemble. The festival opened with the Leos Carax’ offbeat musical “Annette” featuring music by the Sparks Brother and Val Kilmer’s self-titled documentary “Val,” which earned kudos and a long-standing ovation. Other films premiering at the festival including Sean Penn’s “Flag Day,” Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch,” Asghar Farhadi’s “The Hero” and Francois Ozon’s “Everything Went Fine.”

After the recent news that the “Twin Peaks” revival has finally landed a premiere date, we now have our first real look at the show’s long-awaited return — and it’s every bit as off-kilter and enigmatic as you’d imagine. One could say that Michael Rosenbaum’s prayers were answered when TV Land’s Impastor came his way. For the Smallville alum not only found in the comedy perhaps “the perfect role” – as a charming, extremely non-religious con man who co-opts the identity and life of a clergyman (who he later learns is gay) — it came on a show that proved to have legs, and as such earned a Season 2 pick-up weeks ahead of this Tuesday’s finale.

For all of his Marvel movie success, the projects in between the comic book blockbusters haven't been particularly memorable for Robert Downey Jr. Last year's awards season bait "The Judge" whiffed fairly hard aside from a token Oscar nomination for Robert Duvall. "Due Date" was a retread of "The Hangover" films in its basic structure and the watered down antics of Zach Galifianakis, with 2011's "Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows" marking the last true non-Marvel success for the actor. But like many A-listers around town he's got handful of vehicles brewing and Rdj has added another. It.s a movie based on the upcoming book called Chasing Phil: The World.s Greatest Con Man, Two Undercover FBI Agents, And Their Amazing Around The World Adventure. Yes, it.s one of the longest titles ever, but based on what we know, it.s already an interesting sell. The work by author David Howard hasn.t been published yet, but according to The Wrap, Warner Bros. is already interested enough in the story that the studio preemptively scooped up the cinematic rights, as well as the life rights to FBI Agents Jim Wedick and Jack Brennan. The book proposal centers around the FBI.s first foray into white-collar crime and utilizing agents as longterm undercover operatives.

The Iron Man star will produce – and potentially star in – a film about conman Phil Kitzer in a film pegged as ‘Wolf of Wall Street meets Goodfellas’

Downey Jr may potentially play the lead role of Phil Kitzer, a Minnesota conman and mastermind behind an international crime ring known as ‘the Fraternity’ and ran dozens of multimillion dollar schemes. The man behind an Indiegogo campaign that has raised more than $136,000 less than two weeks has shared a trailer for the project he plans to complete. Actor Rob Benedict has posted a short preview for Kings of Con, a show based on his and co-star Richard Speight, Jr.'s experiences at fan conventions.
In Kings of Con, Benedict and Speight, who are both known for their roles on the CW program Supernatural, plan to share fictionalized accounts of their lives on the fan convention circuit. In order to fund their work, they have turned to Indiegogo, where they have quickly surpassed their initial $100,000 goal. If this all sounds familiar, it's because Kings of Con is eerily similar to Con Man, another current Indiegogo campaign that is also based on the convention experiences of its two stars. The similarity of these two projects, as far as we can tell, is purely coincidental.

Yes, we love Caskett. Caskett is the reason we watch Castle. But it’s certainly not the only ‘ship we enjoy. When the writers have made us crazy by keeping Caskett apart and we’d thought, “Screw this, I’m out!” who kept us coming back?
That’s right: the bromance of Ryan and Esposito. They are just as funny, just as smart, and just as devoted (both to each other and Rick and Kate) as Caskett, but they never, ever break up or pretend not to hear the other when hovering near death. This week, Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion teamed up to raise funds for an IndieGoGo campaign. The idea is Tudyk’s, and he wants to make a web series called “Con Man” about an actor from a “killed too soon” sci-fi TV show where he piloted a ship, and Nathan Fillion plays the actor who played the captain. Naturally, since these are Firefly actors and this is essentially a concept that marries Firefly itself with Galaxy Quest, it struck a chord with fans. Tudyk was asking for $425,000 to fund the first batch of episodes, and by the end of the day he’d tripled that with $1.2M in donations. This is, of course, no surprise. You only had to watch the intro video (which also co-starred Seth Green, Gina Torres, Felicia Day, and James Gunn, who are all involved with the project) to know that it would be funded. Why?...

Well Howdy! There was no question that Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion's crowd-funding campaign for the web series Con Man would meet its goal. But the Browncoats, and other fan circles, (but let's be honest, mostly Browncoats) turned out in droves and smashed a couple of crowd-funding campaign records since the campaign started just a couple days ago. Screen Daily reported that by midnight on its first night they had surpassed their goal of $425,000 and sat at a cool million. That is the most funds raised by a web series within the first 24 hours. As I write this report the campaign has raised $1.675 million, which sets another record, the most raised by a web series. Ever. With 28 days to go when the campaign hits...

Never underestimate the collective power of Firefly fans. On Wednesday, we reported that Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion, two of the show’s former cast members, were launching an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign for their new comedic web series Con Man. The duo hoped to raise $425,000 for the project, but donations from a rabid swarm of Firefly fans shot above $1.5 million within 48 hours. With 28 days of funding left to go, EW reports that the project has already become the highest-funded web series in history.
Tudyk and Fillion have enough coin to produce ten episodes of Con Man, which revolves around the humorously weird experiences of a former cult sci-fi series actor as he makes his way around the convention circuit. Tudyk stars as Wray Nealy, the brave conventioneer, while Fillion plays Wray’s friend and former co-star Jack Moore, who has since catapulted to major movie stardom.

Indiegogo campaign for web series is now the highest crowdfunded web series of all time.
Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion’s Con Man Indiegogo campaign has broken two crowdfunding records.
The sci-fi web series has achieved the most funds raised by a web series within its first 24 hours and the record for all-time highest crowdfunded web series in history. Both records are across all crowdfunding platforms.
Within a short time from its launch, Con Man broke through its initial $425,000 goal and went past the $1m mark before midnight Eastern on its first day.
It has currently raised over $1.6m, breaking the previous records set by Tabletop Season 3’s Indiegogo campaign which raised $1.4m within 35 days.
With 29 days left in the campaign, Con Man needs to reach its stretch goal of $1.75m to be able to make a full 12 episode first season and to create a “lost episode” of Spectrum, Con Man’s show within the show.

The filmmakers and “Firefly” alums are teaming up for “Con Man,” a show based on the “the personalities, luminaries, comic book stores and characters they have run into during their years in the sci-fi community and convention circuit.” Some of the notable accomplishments for “Con Man” include: the campaign passed the $1 million mark before 12 a.m. Et on Wednesday and broke the record for all-time highest funded web series across.

Firefly co-stars Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion have launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.com in order to produce the first three episodes of their new web series, Con Man, which is described as a light-hearted take on the personalities, luminaries, and characters in the sci-fi community both actors are part of. Con Man, according to the site, is a way to share some of the surreal occurrences Tudyk and Fillion have experienced, while simultaneously telling the story of a guy learning to love and embrace his fans. Con Man follows Wray Nerely (Tudyk), the co-star of sci-fi series ‘Spectrum’, in which he played the spaceship’s pilot. The show was cancelled before its time and, eventually, became a cult classic beloved by fans. Fillion will portray his good friend Jack Moore, who starred in the series and has gone on to become a major celebrity. While Jack enjoys the life of an A-lister,...

Joss Whedon's space western Firefly has one of the most passionate fandoms out there, because it's, well, the best show ever. As such, its untimely cancellation (and the network's handling of it leading up to that) is considered to be one of the most unjust treatments of a TV show ever. Joss Whedon and the cast returned for the big-screen continuation Serenity, and there have been a few comic book stories, but fans still clamour for more Firefly.
While Firefly itself may not return to our screens any time soon, due to a number of real-world factors, this new project is probably the closest we'll get for a while. Called Con Man, and created by Alan Tudyk (Wash from Firefly) and produced by Nathan Fillion (Mal from Firefly), it's a web series about the world of conventions and fandom, comprising several 10-minute episodes.

Though this is not the Firefly reunion we want this is likely as good as it is going to get for the time being. Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion, stars of that cult sci-fi series, are creating a web series called Con Man. They have launched an Indigogo campaign to raise funds for the project. Wray's good friend, Jack Moore (Nathan Fillion) starred in the series and has gone on to become a major movie star. When Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion go to a convention, they’re basically Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. Which is to say, they’re extremely famous and well-known, especially in that setting. They’re now using their experience with cons to transform the odd world of conventions into a web series. It’s called Con Man and will be written, directed and […]

The Firefly tv series has long been accepted into the group of shows whose cult following has far exceeded their commercial run, as the show’s single season of 14 episodes has seen an enduring popularity that has kept it in the pop culture conversation over a decade after the series went off the air. This has led to various members of the cast to appear in numerous conventions over the year, as they are always a draw. Now, two castmembers are joining together to make a webseries about their convention experiences, called Con Man, and are lookign to the public to raise funds for the project, via indiegogo.
The show, which is billed as a comedy, will revolve around the various personalities that can be seen behind the scenes at numerous conventions, something the duo have plenty of experience in. Nathan Fillion, who played Mal Reynolds in Firefly and can...

Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion have launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for their upcoming web series, "Con Man." And in less than 24 hours, their efforts have already been monumentally successful -- as of now (11am Pst), it's raised over 60 percent of its goal of $450,000, and seems likely to raise the full amount by the end of its first day. Tudyk writes, directs and stars in "Con Man," which boasts a deliciously meta premise: Tudyk's character, Wray Nerely, was a cast member on "Spectrum," a sci-fi series which was canceled "too soon" and emerged as a cult classic (sound familiar?). His good friend Jack Moore (Fillion) starred in the series and has gone on to become a major movie star. The series begins with Jack enjoying the life of an A-lister, while Wray...

Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion have each portrayed their share of memorable characters, but sci-fi fans known them best for their roles in Firefly, the short-lived but much-beloved space odyssey that aired on Fox in 2002. Since the show's cancellation, its fans have clamored for more stories about the crew of the spaceship Serenity. Now, Tudyk and Fillion are looking to appeal to those fans with an Indiegogo campaign for Con Man, a series that will follow its protagonist as he attends pop culture conventions.
Con Man isn't explicitly related to Firefly, but its main characters are essentially fictional versions of Tudyk and Fillion. They will both play cast members from a short-lived sci-fi series called Spectrum, and the series will follow their adventures on the convention circuit. Tudyk will portray an actor best known for his role on Spectrum, while Fillion's character is an "A-lister" who has managed to pick up other major roles.

Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk are together again in “Con Men,” a new web series written by them and produced by the fans! Funded by Indiegogo donations, the show will start with three episodes and build from there. A decade after the show that catapulted him to cult status was canceled, Wray Nerely (Alan Tudyk)makes a living off his iconic character by traveling around the country to comic book conventions and other pop culture events. Meanwhile, Wray’s buddy Jack Moore (Nathan Fillion) lives the life of an A-list star. The series light-heartedly takes on the personalities and colorful characters that populate the con circuit. HitFix Harpy spoke to Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion about this new project and all the convention hijinks that inspired it. HitFix Harpy: Conventions are such a huge part of geek culture these days. Can you describe a little bit what the premise of “Con Men” is?...

If anyone knows the crazy world of sci-fi conventions, it's Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk.
The two actors starred together on Joss Whedon's short-lived, but cult-beloved "Firefly" (which went on to spawn the movie "Serenity"). The show and its stars are insanely popular on the sci-fi convention circuit, and it's an experience that Fillion and Tudyk plan to mine in a proposed web series titled "Con Man."
They just launched an Indiegogo campaign to finance the series. The plot is described thusly:
Wray Nerely (Alan Tudyk-Me!) was a co-star on Spectrum, a sci-fi series which was canceled -Too Soon- yet became a cult classic. Wray's good friend, Jack Moore (Nathan Fillion) starred in the series and has gone on to become a major movie star. The news was released on the official Marvel website on Saturday that Peyton Reed is the new director for Marvel's Ant-Man, while Adam McKay (Anchorman) will write the script.
A new director has been named to fill in the void left when Edgar Wright abruptly left the director’s chair of Ant-Man empty on May 23. After a search by Marvel that found them looking at several directors, the company settled on Peyton Reed. (Bring It On, Yes Man, The Break-Up)
Both Reed and the film’s writer Adam McKay—who was also a contender for the director’s chair, having helmed the Anchorman—are known for their comedies. How will two guys who specialize in comedy handle a serious Marvel super hero film? It’s true that Marvel likes to keep its films light and fun, unlike DC’s more intensely grim and serious approach; so is there a danger...

Robert Redford is one of the movie stars of our time, yet I would contend that he’s always been an underrated actor. There are a host of reasons for that, and they feed into each other in subtle, at times mythic ways. You could say, on the one hand, that Redford was too golden-boy pretty (always a surefire way to not get nearly the respect you deserve), or that he was too understated as a screen presence, or that he was too openly skeptical of the Hollywood game. Redford had his first major big-screen role in 1965, in Inside Daisy Clover,...

Leading Italian actor, playwright and militant leftwing politician who was the wife and professional partner of Dario Fo
Franca Rame, who has died aged 84, was one of Italy's most admired stage performers and playwrights. A leftwing militant, she was elected to the Italian senate in 2006 but resigned within two years, saying the assembly was an icebox of feelings. But Rame was best known as the wife and professional partner of the actor-playwright Dario Fo. In spite of their ups and downs, which they themselves pilloried in a one-act play, Coppia Aperta (The Open Couple, 1982), she remained at his side on stage and off. When Fo received the Nobel prize for literature in 1997, he called Rame his muse and shared the medal with her.

CBS’ Vegas and ABC’s Private Practice were the lone demo gainers this Tuesday, on a night that was no laughing matter for the 11teen sitcoms on the schedule.
With 10.2 million total viewers and a 1.8 rating, Vegas topped the 10 o’clock hour on both counts, rising two tenths in the demo week-to-week. Ppp, at 4.1 mil/1.2, inched up 11 percent and a tenth from last week’s all-time low. (Rounding out that hour, Parenthood, with 4.5 mil/1.6, was down 16 percent.)

One of Mexican-born, two-time Oscar winner Anthony Quinn's 13 children, Francesco Quinn was born in Rome on March 22, 1963. His mother was costume designer Jolanda Addolori. An actor for 25 years, Quinn was featured in more than 30 movies. His film debut took place in Oliver Stone's Oscar-winning Platoon (1986), in which he played the drug-dealing character Rhah. Among his other credits, usually in minor fare, were Casablanca Express (1989), Cannes Man (1996), and Man vs. Monday (2006). According to the IMDb, he has one movie coming out: Giuseppe Ferrara's Roma nuda. Charles Leinenweber and Thadd Turner's Buttermilk Sky was in pre-production for a possible 2012 release. Each year New York residents can look forward to two essential series programmed at the Film Forum, noirs and pre-Coders (that is, films made before the strict enforcing of the Motion Picture Production Code). These near-annual retrospective traditions are refreshed and re-varied and re-repeated for neophytes and cinephiles alike, giving all the chance to see and see again great film on film. Many titles in this year's Essential Pre-Codeseries, running an epic July 15 - August 11, are old favorites and some ache to be new discoveries; all in all there are far too many racy, slipshod, patter-filled celluloid splendors to be covered by one critic alone. Faced with such a bounty, I've enlisted the kind help of some friends and colleagues, asking them to sent in short pieces on their favorites in an incomplete but also in-progress survey and guide to one of the summer's most sought-after series. In this entry: what's playing Friday,...
