Great feelings in color!
Petey-1016 May 2009
Liina is the daughter of a wealthy house on the farm. She's attracted to a peddler called Mikko, but she ought to marry Suntilan Jaakko. Not only Jaakko is against their relationship, but also her father is.But before he knows what's going on he sells Mikko a little patch and a house. The love of these two seems doomed...Åke Lindman, the well-known actor tried directing for the second time in his life with Kun tuomi kukkii (1962).This great man, who we sadly lost this year, did a lot more directing in his later years. It was rare to shoot a Finnish movie in color in the early 60's.The nature of Finnish summer looks especially beautiful in color.Mauno Kuusisto plays the male lead of this picture.Mauno is here in his second and last movie role. The first one was also a Lindman movie, Kertokaa se hänelle (1961).Mauno is mainly known from his superior singing voice and he does do a lot of singing in this movie. These songs, made by Erkki Melakoski, were unfortunately never recorded which gives you another good reason to watch this movie. You get to hear all those wonderful songs sang by Mauno Kuusisto. Also the female lead, Tamara Lund get to do some singing. It's fantastic to hear her singing a song like "Tuku tuku lampaitani".One really great thing in this movie is the big actor Leo Lastumäki.He's really like some cartoon character as he goes hopping from joy when he thinks he gets to marry Liina. He's very comical character, but you can't help feeling sorry for this poor man.The grand actress Siiri Angerkoski plays understanding mother of Liina.Matti Oravisto is Suntilan Jaakko. This movie is really worth watching and see Finland as it was before.
