Lots of action and comedy in this DBZ movie.
Aaron137519 February 2004
This one features more fighting and comedy than most of the movies to this point. This one features a mistake that leads to the birth of a creature named Janemba. It promptly takes over otherworld and the dead come back to life on earth. Gohan, Videl, Trunks, and Goten go to stop the more rowdy ones while Goku and this green guy named Pikan try and solve the problem from their side. The fighting is top notch as you see Goku turn SSJ 3 for the first time in a movie...at first Janemba seems rather playful and harmless (kind of like Buu), but after he is seemingly beaten he turns into a very destructive creature. Vegeta comes to help and they must perform fusion to beat this new threat. Meanwhile, Trunks and Goten battle Hitler and his army (don't ask). My main complaint is the battle between the fused Vegeta and Goku and the villain does not last very long at all. Otherwise though this one is very entertaining and it has a very funny scene where the fusion does not work very well.

Great animation movie!!!
kosovooh11 November 2007
If your an animation fan you've probably watched or have heard of Dragon ball Z. If you are one of those people I definitely recommend that you see this DBZ movie. This movie is filled with humor, action, and a lot of new things. The action in the movie is total nonstop action, and the humor is pretty funny. Animation fans will definitely be pleased by this movie, I know I was. The many new things include new fusions, new characters, and new enemies. There are many instances where the humor is very funny. The movie has just about every character in Dragonball Z. Again this movie will be great for animation lovers like me. I give this movie 9 stars out of ten.

THE REBIRTH OF FUSION RULES!!!
JasonX200327 December 2002
This is perhaps the greatest of the Dragon Ball Z movies. This one being the 12th one, Akira Toriyama had a lot of previous skill. Perhaps the 13th movie, Dragon Fist Explosion, is a little bit better than this, but they are both great. Perhaps the best part is when Janemba is fat and nice and junk, but then gets interesting. Be sure to see this movie, you can get it at a Japanese videostore or buy it off of eBay... Hope this helps!!!

:Goku and Vegeta Are Back!!
gigan-9219 April 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Finally, Goku and Vegeta are back!! While the Broly movies were no doubt good, they were no also no doubt centered mostly on Trunks and Goten. Enough of the runts, what about their dads?? Well Akira Toriyama responded with this, and as usual he amazes his fans. Like most DBZ films, the film doesn't really fit into the anime's continuity because somehow both Vegeta and Goku are dead and yet Majin Boo has already been defeated (???). Well, when do they go along with the seasons, aside the references and cameos of course?? Speaking of cameos, Frieza makes an appearance, only to be killed off by Gohan in a flash, a great scene if you ask me. This one is a lot more comical than "Wrath of the Dragon" but the jokes are no less appreciated. SS2 Vegeta and SS3 Goku go up against Janemba, a villain who is not only powerful but can affect reality itself. Incredible battles ensue and this certainly qualifies as one of the best DBZ movies. Vegeta even gets his own emotional tad bit and after the hilarious 'Veku' scene we finally see Gogeta. His short screen time is by far my favorite scene in the whole movie and watching him unleash his finisher (which I'm not too sure about the name. It's either the "Soul Punisher" or "Stardust Breaker") was incredible! I actually like the American music, although the Japanese music is also pretty entertaining itself. I must say though, Funimation did a great job remastering these films both visually and audio-wise. Thanks to them these classics look better than ever!!

It was fun
Rectangular_businessman23 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Along with "Wrath of the Dragon", this might be my favorite Dragon Ball movie. Now, while "Wrath of the Dragon" seems to cover the super-serious, intense and "edgy" side of Dragon Ball Z, this movie does the total opposite of that, focusing in the humorous and light-hearted side of the series, and does it in a quite entertaining way.

In many ways, it almost feels like an abridged version of the Majin Buu Saga, starring a villain with similar characteristics. The tone is also similar, with an adequate balance beteween comedy and action, and it seems clear that Akira Toriyama feels more comfortable doing such kind of stories rather than the dramatic stuff that some fans prefer.

I for one, I enjoy silly Dragon Ball as much as serious Dragon Ball. At least during the Majin Buu years, the writing of the silly parts was quite creative and playful, filled with many unpredictable moments.

It also helps the animation of this movie is really nice, with some amazingly done action sequences. The modern Dragon Ball art style, with its saturated shiny colors looks a bit ugly in comparison most of the time.

One of the best! In Japanese and in English
Deftone3155 April 2006
I see nobody has added a comment who has seen the 2006 release by Funimation. This movie was great in Japanese and awesome in English. With a great soundtrack to it. The story you'll see from the other comments. I also recommend the English. The movie finally has Goku after a long period of three movies, so finally you get to see Goku kicking ass again. Also this is the first movie you will see Super saiyan 3. Another great feature from this movie is you'll get to see Vegeta and Goku working together again, not since movie 6. The ending and how Goku and Vegeta figure out what to do to take Janemba down is perfect for the movie. The only reason I give this movie a 9 out of 10 is because it is very trippy, if you will. The basic plot of this movie is the should cleanser tanks for hell have exploded, leaving years of soul waste puring out everywhere, turning a young worker in to a fat tub of lard known as Janempa. It also changes the other world around in which there are jellybean looking barriers everywhere, and part of the reason I say it's trippy is because to break the barrier, you have to throw harsh words at it, not attacks. I found that pretty bizarre...Plus Janemba/Janempa is just another Kid Buu basically because he has pretty much no personality and he doesn't even talk. I like when the enemies actually have character. When the Soul cleansing machine explodes, all hell breaks lose, literally. Anyone from the other world can come down to earth and anyone living can go to the other world. Of course Frieza comes back with other saga enemies and some old movie characters. Also, Hitler and his army come back, which I found pretty funny. Of course Gohan, Videl, Trunks, and Goten all come to the scene, with not much of a challenge. Another thing that disappointed me was you don't get to see any other old enemies fighting. It's hard to say the time when this movie took place. It's obviously not in the 7 years apart because Goku says he has already fought Buu and Vegeta is dead. So I don't really think about the time it took place. Since a lot of the movies don't fit. Overall this movie is still really good and has great animation. I recommend you buy it 99.9%

Best Animated DBZ Movie
JayWolfgramm7 March 2023
"Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn" (Or whatever you want to call it) is the 12th DBZ movie, (Depending on whether you count the specials or Video Games). It follows the story of the creation of a new more powerful monster, made up of all the negative souls of the afterlife. With that barrier down all the dead rise up and cause havoc. And Goku and Vegeta must work together to beat this new monster, Janenba.

This movie marked a new high point of quality for the DBZ movies. It is my favorite of all the animation styles. Some people may prefer "Super Broly", "Battle of Gods" or "Super- Superhero", but for me, this is the best these movies have ever looked. The fight scene between Janenba, Goku and Vegeta is full of great moments.

The B-Plot that they cut to also has some good moments. Including Goten and Trunks taking down a particular evil villain who got released from Hell.

On the downside, Janeba doesn't have much of a personality, he is just the big bad guy the heroes have to fight. Janenba follows too many of the same plot points that Majin Buu follows in the series.

The way the fight ends is also pretty underwhelming, it just ends too quickly. And perhaps they spend too much time on the fighting of evil henchman from Hell, that could have been spent on the more plot relevant stuff.

Nerd rant stuff: Shenron is completely wasted in this story and where was Cell?

If only they could fuse the best elements of this movie, with the best elements of another DBZ movie. Other than those gripes, this is an all-around good time. I highly recommend it to any DBZ fan.

I agree it's one of the best
ericstevenson8 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
While my favorite DBZ movies are the new ones, this is probably the best of the original ones. It's weird to watch movies that are so short while the recent ones are much longer. Still, this is a lot of fun. It's mostly because of how creative the villain Janemba is. I like how he just says his name at first and then doesn't talk at all. He is more or less based on Majin Buu. It's funny just to see him fight so well. I love his different designs. I was a bit disappointed we saw a bunch of old villains who just retreated.

They even take a cool idea and execute it well. We get to see a bunch of random zombies (even a vampire!), ghosts of random people, Freiza and even Hitler! It's probably at its funniest when Hitler is disappointed that Goten and Trunks have blue eyes and blonde hair but they don't work for him. The animation is more cartoonish here. The best part might actually be Vegeta. We really do get some great character development from him. At first, I thought he was brought there by the Dragonballs, but then Shenron appeared at the very end, bringing it full circle. It's great to see how he and Goku's afterlifes are different. ***1/2

great fusion

Warning: Spoilers
Then this is number 12 of the Dragon Ball Z films So the film begins with an ogre who works for King Yemma's but this ogre caused a disaster and caused the spiritual washing machine to be destroyed the solvice was transformed into another being who always repeats the word Janemba is because ofthis one from the state will say it's broken So all the dead who were dead will come back to life on earth to be able to stop all this They have to kill Janemba So what do I think about this film Well it's a film that doesn't make me very crazy I was already know that all people say thisthat it's one of the most beautiful Dragon Ball Z films but for me that's not the problem with this film that instead seems like a zany comedy because this is really too much comedy and then those who come back to life on earth are Completely useless and then as always it's still herecontinuous error on an anime because Gohan is on earth because he should be on the planet of kaioshin training with the sword Z then the thing that I didn't like at all is Janemba's appearance I don't like this mission because it seems to me too ridiculous and stupid very ridiculousthe other person is much better when Janemba transforms and finally becomes a very cool being this time and I tell you that this time Janemba but the thing that really makes this film become a zany comedy and when they make a mistake in the fusion becoming this fat Gogeta is the way he does vaguely very exemplary crazy forgot to mention also a wasted character or Pikkon always becomes a wasted character in which he ruins himself The only thing he does is break the barrier that keeps King Yemma's imprisoned But since he intervenes to make Goku and Vegeta do the fusion and it becomes very useful What a shame that he didn't appear in the tournament of power very few countries mirror a character Not created by toriyama and then the most beautiful part of this film and when Gogeta really appears this time This is the very beautiful part it all comes back normal So thisit's not one of the best because of this part which is too comical and zany if they did the right things I could be very high rated But this doesn't mean that this is rejected because this film is ok to conclude rated 6.5.

Best dragonball z movie. No doubt about it
danextgen23 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
CONTAINS SPOILERS MY BROTHERS!!! ^_^

I first saw this movie in 97 in french. I thought it was really cool at the time. But when i older and saw it again, in the original Japanese version, after i had seen all the series.. it blew my mind. This has everything. Goku comes back to the dbz movies after a long absence as well as vegeta. They both collaborate to try to kill a creature that is formed from all the bad souls that go to hell which came loose after a worker got distracted with his job.

When i say "all the bad souls" i mean ALL. That includes ppl from early centuries, all the enemies the dbz team killed and even Hitler with his whole army, which is pretty funny to see by the way! This all happens in the living world and goku, gohan, trunks etc take care of that business with ease. But still pretty funny to watch. One of the highlights is the dialog between freezer and gohan.

On the dead world Goku and Vegeta face this creature named janemba who is supposedly an approximation to the devil (especially the 2nd transformation). We get to see Goku super sayan 3 for the 1st time. When he defeats his janemba, he transforms himself into a much darker and scarier beast. This fight, 1st with goku and then with vegeta is WORTH THE MOVIE ALONE.

One of the best moments of dragon ball ever.

You then have typical dragon ball stuff, with drama, comedy and great interaction between goku and vegeta.

The Last bit of the movie and the major one is the fusion between them. After several tries they manage to do it and there we go to another GREAT dragon ball scene.

In my opinion this is without a doubt the best dragon ball movie, and it is a great movie by itself. I recommend this for fans and non-fans who like anime. It is indeed a CLASSiC Film.

Not So Great After All
idanvinter12330 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Let me start by saying that I'm a big DBZ fan, part of my childhood. Before I saw this film, judging by the rating I had in mind that what I would see will be a true masterpiece. Well, I was disappointed. This movie isn't bad, FYI, but it's not really good either. Now let me start with the good stuff: The animation is quite good, the story is kinda good and the action scenes are also kinda good. Now why I think this movie isn't really good: Average action, apparently Adolt Hitler is one the people who came back to life when the young boy turned into a giant monster, the people who came back from the dead except Hitler are zombies (I at least expected the zombies to look like real people), only a few action scenes (truly not what DBZ is all about), when the kids turn into super saiyan at one point when they fight Hitler the animation style suddenly changes, some other things just seem weird in the film and overall a pretty weak film compared to other great DBZ films. My biggest issue is that I don't get why this movie got 8.2. It' nowhere near the 7 rating IMO, and definitely not one of the best DBZ films ever made, according to some reviews. Overall, a pretty entertaining films for DBZ fans, and I guess a good way to spend 50 min if you're really bored.

The movie is great. The pacing is good. Animation was excellent and marvellous. The only thing which I didn't liked was the fact that what we were waiting for - Gogeta was featured for a very breif time but still it was fine. If you'rea dbz fan this movie should be on your watch list.

Janemba, Janemba Janemba
maxmages14 August 2018
Actually, most Dragon Ball Z movies are very average this one is not here, however he has the same shortage. for a real movie, the run length is just too short and does not leave enough room for more.

This one is without much hesitation one of the better films and even belongs to my favorites. Because this film contains exciting fights great atmosphere a super interesting drawing style comma above all the representations and drawings on earth are very unusual Dragon Ball but still so beautifully stylized that they are fun. In addition, this movie has something that was unfortunately in Dragon Ball Z too short humor and I like that.

In addition, it is very straightforward and visually well explained so that we can understand quickly and for everyone is that is one thing I am more of filming desires and the self-playing live action films goes down the first five minutes are so self-explanatory and so simple for my taste, a little bit fast, but so unproblematic that I really ask the question why you are so rarely used.

Actually, this movie is a must have for all Dragonball Z fans as well because he was a much better ending to the Boo saga concept and the idea and in addition I have to say Janemba is one of my favorite movie villains ever and that Concept is so unique in that you can interpret so much that I am completely fascinated and unfortunately a bit disappointed that it is so rarely shown.

Warning: Spoilers
this movie is definitely the best movie out of all (after Broly) but the animation was awesome and i also loved the music especially since it didn't have any words to it. the story was great too the only part i didn't like was that they made the fight between super Gogeta and Janemba too short. i would have been cool if we could see Gogeta's full potential. But the movie was still cool. it was also funny especially the part with Hitler and Trunks and Goten. they had the right amount of comedy and the right amount of action. the movie should have been longer it should have been at least an hour and a half. if you're going to buy it buy the uncut version it has more emotion and blood and violence it's awesome!

this movie is a must buy!!!

The funniest of the DBZ movies.
SSJAniFan27 July 2003
Warning: Spoilers
(some spoilers. Read with caution)

After the horrible movie eleven, I thought good DBZ films were gone for good. Luckily, this one proves me wrong. From the looks of it, this film takes place shortly after the events of the eleventh movie, and focuses on the DBZ characters who are still dead at this point(Goku, Vegeta, and the anime-exclusive Paikuhan). When the evil spirits take over one careless soul, they cause the afterlife to get screwed up, as well as dead souls to come back to life. Frieza once again returns to screw with everybody's heads(how many times do they have to kill him!?), and is of course killed again. Goku fights it out with the evil spirits, which have taken the form of a demon named Janemba, but after he changes into his second form our hero is defeated. Vegeta shows up and saves Goku at the last minute, but he too is beaten. Goku then realizes that there's only one way for them to beat Janemba: Fusion.

This film is a good balance of action and humor, unlike the horrible movie 7. The fights are good, but the comedy is even better! Funny scenes include a reunion between Romeo and Juliet(apparently, Romeo didn't die in this timeline), Hitler trying to take over the world again, and fighting Goten and Trunks as a result(I love it when he calls them punks when they go SSJ and he thinks they dyed their hair!), and a funny nod to Captain Ginyu the Frog. However, the icing on the cake is when Goku and Vegeta try to fuse. They fail the first time, creating an idiotic, fat Gogeta. As a result, we get a HILARIOUS scene of Fat Gogeta getting beaten up by Janemba. This scene is so funny! I never remember laughing so much! This scene alone is worth the price of the film!

There's only one real complaint I have. Gogeta(after being fused correctly) beats Janemba too quickly. I would have loved seeing a long, cool fight scene between the two. But with the humor, it can be overlooked.

BOTTOM LINE: You will be laughing your head off.

One of the best Dragon Ball movies
elonmusk-is_a_moron7 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I absolutely love this movie. For me, it was one of the finest moments of the entirity of Dragon Ball, very funny to watch but also quite action packed, with some incredibly good animation.

The villain was very fun. Sure, it was clearly inspired by Majin Buu, but Janemba is quite cool anyway, and his fight against SSJ3 Goku was pretty entertaining.

Some people apparently are upset Gohan was able to beat up the ghost of Frieza with a single punch. Personally, I think there is nothing "illogical" about that victory, showing how strong Gohan had become by that part of the series.

If anything, Frieza becoming super mega strong in Dragon Ball Super after a month of training is dumb, illogical and pure fan-service made for Frieza worshippers that probably cheered up when he resurrected and was given a happy ending in that series (By Goku, no less! So incredibly stupid)

Sad how the Frieza cult (who is probably behind the writing of the awful Dragon Ball Super) got their revenge in Dragon Ball Super, which made that overrated villain incredibly strong while nerfing Gohan. Now they want to turn Frieza into a recurring "Joker" type of villain, which is frankly embarrasing.

I really hope Gohan finishes Frieza with a single punch in a future movie. That would be a genuine subversion of expectations. And I hope this time Frieza stays dead for good, enough of Frieza worship that only serves to ruin Dragon Ball.

It Wasn't Bad, But It Wasn't Good Either...
Just-A-Fan-of-Buuhan20 December 2019
I'm just gonna list the pros, cons, and my conclusion of this movie:

Pros: The battles were amazing, the main villain was similar to Bio-Broly in terms of how good of a villain he is, Gohan kills Frieza in one punch, Super Saiyan 3, Gogeta, Gotenks kills the entirety of Hitler's army with just 100 Kamikaze Ghosts.

Cons: Pikkon mostly gets no action whatsoever due to him being on the sidelines for most of the movie, Hercule didn't provide as much comic relief as he did in the last film but at least he gave us some, the Gogeta vs. Janemba battle was a little TOO short, but still good nonetheless.

Conclusion: To me, it's not bad, but it wasn't as good as people said it was. It would be better if Hercule and Pikkon got some more screen time and if the Gogeta and Janemba battle was a little longer. This is why that I'm ranking this 7 out of 10.

Best of the Z Movies!!!
lucas-4210 December 2002
This is by far the greatest of all the DBZ Movies. It has the best animation, full of color and life. It has a really awesome villian who is NOT named Janemba by the way. That happens to be a curse word he says, not his name. ANYWAY. This villian is a demon with an awesome sword that can slice through anything. Goku and Vegeta fuse into GOGETA and it all takes place in the other world. It was the first Z movie to use CG (Computer Generated) to assist in the animating process. Which makes this movie, when viewed in a good high quality video format (NOT crappy fansubs), a beauty. So much detail in everything.

It's also got a ton of comedy in it as well. Like Hitler trying to take the world over again while Goten and Trunks try to stop him with ease. Vegeta and Goku also fail to fuse correctly the first time they try and end up as a fat failed fusion who can't do anything but RUN!! Oh, and fart! lol. It's a crazy movie and one of the best and longest. Great Stuff! You GOTTA Watch it if your a true DBZ fan.

Worst DBZ Movie Fusion Reborn?
djdj6159228 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously i have no idea why people rate this movie so high, 7.3 really? My problem steams from the hype of this movie, it promises all the previous villains from the show and what do we GET? A bunch of cameos that mean little to nothing in the actual plot. I mean on the front cover of this thing it shows a horde of DBZ villains and most of them don't even have a speaking line in it. and the worst part about it is most the cameos take a back seat to a Hitler type character... WHAT THE HELL? and the fight between Goku and Vegeta vs Janemba is actually kind of boring it just doesn't have the same energy of previous fights like Goku vs Cooler or the end fight in Broly The Legendary Super Saiyan. Mainly because Janemba is a really uninteresting villain. Whats his motivation... He's evil thats it we went from Cell who is obsessed with being perfect so he can complete his mission to destroy Goku to Cooler seeking revenge for his brothers death to Broly being jealous for being abandoned and casted aside to... just being evil, see the problem? So is it the worst DBZ movie out there? no but its defiantly the most disappointing for me. More so because this is the only DBZ animated movie to have a theatrical release. I wanted to see a battle royale with all the previous villains, not Trunks and Goten getting into schoolyard shenanigans with Hitler.

The Best DBZ movie I have ever seen!!!!
chaos2356@aol.com9 July 2002
The plot was great. The characters were great. And there was so much humor (mainly from Pai-Ku-Han) that you could just burst! I liked the animation and the way of defeating Janenba's force-field by cursing it. The movie was a laugh-riot.

Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn (1995)
Stefan_Loves_Movies16 February 2022
Dragon Ball Z: Revival Fusion (1995) is a short 51m DBZ Action movie directed by Shigeyasu Yamauchi.

The movie's plot is BASIC and WEAK. The film had POTENTIAL with the whole "the dead come back to life" idea, but it was POORLY executed. The villain was your classic 0 DEPTH random "bad guy" that you have to defeat. The FIGHTING SCENES were pretty GOOD, but there was WAY TOO MUCH HUMOR, so the feeling of DANGER wasn't present in the story...

Conclusion: Dragon Ball Z: Revival Fusion (1995) is NOT one of my favorite DBZ movies. I DID NOT enjoy it...
