"Good ol' Magoo!", indeed!

Warning: Spoilers
This is an excellent early Mister Magoo from the UPA studio. There will be spoilers ahead:

There's just so much to love about this short! The music is by Shorty Rogers, who did the music for "Three Little Bops", for one thing. The plot of this is rather more developed than usual, with Magoo attending a class reunion, irritating the band leader by coming up on the stage to "sing" a chorus of the song the band is playing.

Magoo then goes in search of his partner in the dance contest, the wife of his old friend Charlie. Charlie is so deep in his cups that all he does in the short is rest his head on his hand and say, "Good ol' Magoo!" in response to his wife's complaints about being Magoo's dance partner. She hides when Magoo comes around.

Magoo wanders out of the hall and winds at a wrestling match, mistaking the champ for his dance partner! He winds up in the ring as a challenger while the champ is taking on all comers and dances with the champ.

Typical Magoo weirdness occurs (to the embarrassment and chagrin of the champ. As is to be expected, Magoo finally returns to the reunion with the champ in tow, to return Charlie's "wife" to him, with Magoo's thanks for the loan of a dance partner and fun is had by all-except the champ and Charlie's wife. "Good ol' Magoo!", as Charlie would say.

This short is available on a box set from Shout! Factory. The set consists of three discs containing all the theatrical Magoo shorts and Magoo's A Thousand and One Nights feature on another disc. The set and this short are excellent. Most recommended.
