2 part Matlock
bdosher-566529 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This was a very different 2 part Matlock story, both intertwined, a judge puts him as lawyer to a plumber arrested for murder and shorty after that a woman arrested for her husband's death begs him to take her case, and he does and figures out who killed her husband and gets her off.

2nd part, the plumber is not a really likeable guy but they work his case and figure out who might be involved, his client from the first murder, this involves legal issues because of attorney client privilege, but even though she was innocent in her husband's death, she wasn't in this one and actually planted the murder weapon in plumbers Van. Had she not planted the murder weapon on him or anyone else, she might have gotten away with it.

Kind of different. Ben out of character. I didn't really care for that. Stunning twist regarding the cases.

Warning: Spoilers
Ok, first of all, how weird is it seeing Matlock flirting with Roxanne Windemere, played by Brynn Thayer? The actress will later in this same season play Ben's daughter, Leanne, and then continue on in this role for a couple more seasons. Weird. Ok, now, but different, how weird was it seeing Ben flirting with Roxanne Windemere? Lol. Ben seemed kind of out of character to me in this episode, which is a 2-parter on streaming services. I mean he's flirted before with women a bit, but this was a client, and he and Michelle had that odd convo about younger women and a type Ben likes. Where the heck was Julie to put her claim on her man? Just didn't seem like him since he committed to defend the other client. Granted, the judge put him to it, but still.

So in this one, there are two different cases with two different clients. Ben gives over the first client, Walter Padilla, to Michelle, and he takes Mrs. Windemere's case. The cases eventually converge in a stunning twist which puts Ben in a difficult situation as he is bound by client/attorney confidentiality. Not to mention he liked the much younger Roxanne in a romantic way. Again, weird.

I didn't like Ben's questioning of Roxanne on the witness stand. I found it a bit cringe. All I could think was: "She's a murderer, Ben, who framed an innocent man, and she totally played you!" But he acted all sad and conflicted and reluctant. This is not how I like to see Ben. In fact, I think Michelle should have totally had this one. After all, she is his partner and protege. Not to mention his friend, who always has his back and has been protective of Ben in the past, such as when Ben was framed for murder. Time for Michelle to come into her own. It was a missed opportunity, I think.

Anyway, an interesting premise with a stunning twist. But I didn't enjoy seeing Ben acting out of character nor his questioning of Roxanne on the stand. Michelle and Conrad were great. The mouse stuff was funny. Poor Conrad. Lol. 7/10.

Great Episode

Warning: Spoilers
I haven't watched Matlock in ages, nor the Andy Griffith show.

Andy Griffith was always one of my favorite honest/hard-working/ethical actors. He never failed to admit he was wrong, to get some benefit out of a situation, and help others.

This episode is very interesting as there are two cases, possibly conflicting. He admits that he enjoys looking at women occasionally, and picked one case over another because of the defendant's looks.

The question of attorney/client privilege creates a conundrum.

I was so surprised to see who the judge was ... Helen Crump (Andy's girlfriend from the Andy Griffith show), Aneta Corsaut. It is amazing how may actors that were on the Andy Griffith show were involved in so many other series, movies, etc.

This episode was quite enjoyable.
