Buddha's Palm and Dragon Fist, also known as Roving Heroes (1980)

Chi Kuan Chun is sent to look for a killer. Kuan Chun is a student at Shaolin and Lee I Min is mad that Kuan Chun was chosen to go. The rest of the movie is nonstop fights and comedy with Lee I Min playing jokes on Kuan Chun. It does get serious at times, but there is too much fighting to have a good plot. That's right, TOO MUCH FIGHTING! But I am not complaining, no sir. The fights are the reason I watch these movies. If the fighting wasn't good, then I would have a problem, but luckily the fights are very good. And overall the movie is above average with lots of good comedy. So turn your brain off and enjoy.

The choreography is done by the main villain of the movie Suen Shu Pau. I am guessing Robert Tai also had a hand in the action because I spotted him in the movie. The fighting is very dance like and it is so much fun to watch. There are too many fights to go over, but I will tell you that the final fight is the best. It is fast and furious and 8 minutes long.

Good fights ending with a lame explanation

It begins with "Who are these people and why are they fighting?" Cut to an outdoor martial arts class under mushrooms. The master sends Chi Kuan-Chun on a mission and Li Yi-Min wants to go too. Master does not take him seriously. Li Yi-Min goes to town and after beating up a fortune teller who accurately tells him what he does not want to hear ends up at a rich man's house because of his kung fu skills. He is soon off on a mission with a list of killers to bring in. Chi Kuan-Chun also arrives at the same house and is given the same mission. It is soon revealed that these killers have since reformed. One has even become a monk. Nevertheless both our guys continue on their mission. As for bringing them in, they kill them instead. There is a mystery here that can only be explained by a long expositional dialog.

I liked the way this movie combined the two different styles of fighting of the two leads and the different personalities. Acrobatic and straight up, comedic and stoic.

I rate this as only average for the year and genre despite the fights being above average the exposition just did not hold water.

Chi Kuan-Chun and Li Yi-Min team up for action

BUDDHA'S PALM AND DRAGON FIST is a fast-paced kung fu flick from Taiwan. It stars two notable actors from the era and features a plot which incorporates the Shaolin Temple, a kung fu training school, and the hunt for a gang of killers, some of whom have since reformed. The incredibly tall Chi Kuan-Chun, formerly of the Shaw Brothers studio, plays an impassioned fighter out for revenge and is very good, but the real star of the show is Li Yi-Min who wants to train his martial arts skills but gets caught up in the main story. Yi-Min is fine here and brings a lot of comedy to his role, while there's enough action to make it a painless watch.

A guy wants to get revenge of his father, so hi goes to a kung fu school, too learn to become a fighter, he meets a master that can help him become a kung fu fighter and takes on his task to revenge his own father. Much good battles and sound effects.

A movie about Friendship

Chi Kuan Chun and Li Yi Min have great form and movement in this film. The two are of different personalities and are masters of two different styles of kungfu. Chi is stoic and exacting in his approach in a investigation assigned to him, Lee I min is impulsive and wants to be recognized in his accomplishment. The two always have conflict but in the end they team up to accomplish the assignment originally given to Chi.Classic kungfu movie. Their moves and stolid stance in kung fu are paramount.
