Thank you, Grace Dixon, wherever you are, for imbuing your family’s line with enough grit, determination and unwielding “Oh hell no” to get your descendants out of some very tight spots.

Wilmington, Nc. Ken Olin's giant dog has the run of his office in the gloriously air-conditioned oasis that is the "Sleepy Hollow" production offices at Eue/Screen Gems Studios. This is a fact I had forgotten until I went back to the recording of my interview with Olin and discovered that the audio is a fine conversation with a steady background of occasionally deafening panting. While "Sleepy Hollow" production has the run of large chunks of Wilmington, plus a variety of outdoor environments, Eue/Screen Gems Studios is the home to several stages housing a variety of regular interiors, as well as frequently repurposed sets like the tunnels and caves and caverns and various subterranean chambers that our characters constantly seem to find themselves navigating. [You can check out some non-spoilery pictures from the various stages here, as well as the photo of a dog who is Not Olin's dog.] The production offices are largely Olin's domain. TV viewers of a certain age will perhaps always think of Olin as Michael Steadman from "thirtysomething" or,...

Our journey through the lesser-known films of the 2000s continues. This week, it's 2003...
It was the year that Arnold Schwarzenegger went from Terminator actor to Governor of California, and when The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King dominated the global box office with a gross of more than $1bn. 2003 was also the year the Wachowskis' Matrix trilogy thundered to a close, the year Freddy Krueger clashed with Jason Voorhees in, er, Freddy Vs Jason, and the year Pixar scored another hit with Finding Nemo.
But as you've probably gathered by now, 2003 was also a year of quite brilliant, less lucrative films. The movies we've included in this week's list were chosen for a variety of reasons - some were ignored in cinemas, while others were harshly treated by critics. Oops, did I do that? In tonight’s midseason finale of “Sleepy Hollow,” titled “Golem,” Ichabod (Tom Mison) and Abbie (Nicole Beharie) call on their old friend The Sin Eater, Henry Parrish (guest star John Noble), to help them talk to Katrina (Katia Winter) in the afterlife. But their connection to purgatory doesn’t go as planned when [...]

Sleepy Hollow's recent break from the schedules did nothing to dissipate its momentum. Here's Caroline's review...
This review contains spoilers.
1.7 The Midnight Ride
Well that was quite exciting, wasn't it? We're only half way through the first season of Sleepy Hollow, and it seems Ichabad and Abby haven't just found a way to trap the horseman, but have also managed to actually trap him. Will this stick? Probably not given the aforementioned episode number, but it's still a pleasing development for a show almost entirely dependent on its villains. If the horseman never gets his head back then the apocalypse can never get started and nobody needs to bother about being a witness at all.
Then again, this is television, so we can bet that, even if the horseman doesn't escape his artificial sunlight prison straight away, something else is going to come along to complicate their lives.

Tonight’s new episode of Sleepy Hollow gives us not only the Headless Horseman actually riding his horse, chasing people and cutting off their heads (see the clip below) – which really is pretty cool to see, it’s the classic story come to life – but we also get a twist on the historical “Midnight Ride of Paul Revere” – of course it involves the aforementioned Horseman.
We have a TV spot, two featurettes (including one of those fun fake “investigative reports”), and several clips from the new episode, but first we have a terrific behind-the-scenes featurette about last week’s episode with John Noble:

Couldn't get enough of Sleepy Hollow's most recent episode "The Sin Eater," which was easily the new Fox drama's best yet? Good, because we've got a nice little treat for you. In the episode, Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) was this close to sacrificing himself to take out the Headless Horseman, whom he was linked to. Abbie (Nicole Beharie)? So not down with the idea, which lead to a hugely emotional scene between the pair that pleased "Ichabbie" shippers to no end. Of course, our hero lived to see another day, but the scene definitely signified a turning point in the odd couple's relationship. Sleepy Hollow doesn't know the meaning of the word 'boring'. Here's Caroline's review of The Sin Eater...
This review contains spoilers.
1.6 The Sin Eater
Sleepy Hollow has been off the air for far too long (silly Fox and their baseball) and, thankfully, they didn’t just decide to hand us a filler episode to keep up quiet – they delivered an almighty information fest with major developments and John Noble doing what he does best. After three weeks, all the fans were eager for more insanity, demons and headless antics, and boy did The Sin Eater deliver. It might have been an exposition episode, but boring isn’t a word Sleepy Hollow seems to know.
We start with, of all things, Abbie and Ichabod attending a game of baseball. It’s obviously a knowing wink at those viewers who couldn’t give a stuff about...

That evening, Abbie is driving home when she starts to doze / hallucinate. She is in the creepiest of creepy haunted houses, long abandoned. For its first few episodes Sleepy Hollow followed a specific pattern to which viewers have surely gotten accustomed. First, Abbie or Crane has a dark vision or dream that is soon confirmed by some gruesome death in the town of Sleepy Hollow. The rest of the episode consists of the two solving the mystery or crime with the help of Crane’s flashbacks to the Revolutionary War, as well as guidance from his wife, Katrina, who continues to bewitch from another realm. But this week we were thrown a few welcome curveballs with episode six, “The Sin Eater.”...

So much for my Sleepy Hollow drinking game. I had one all schemed out for tonight’s episode, the show’s first after a three-week mini-hiatus, my whiskey at the ready because I thought something brown would pair nicely with both the sepia-tinged aesthetic of the show and, let’s face it, its distinct layer of cheese.Rule No. 1, for example, was to pound a shot every time Ichabod Crane went all Bill & Ted’s over a modern-day convenience like power-operated windows or a remote control. These bits of comic relief, which sprouted out of Crane often being relegated to the role of sidekick, roughly averaged out to two shots per episode — the perfect cruising altitude for gliding over, through, and across big- and small-screen genres with the sort of cheeky, low-key panache Sleepy Hollow seemed content to achieve. But having just watched “The Sin Eater,” I’m as bone-dry...

When you found out the title of the latest episode of "Sleepy Hollow" was "The Sin Eater," did you think that the titular character would actually be a literal interpretation of those words? Well, considering this show has been crazy from Day 1, we probably should have.
Yet here we are, John Noble is sopping up blood with a piece of bread like it's balsamic vinegar at an Italian restaurant, and we've added a whole new layer of confusing to the mythology of our favorite bananas new fall show.
"Sleepy Hollow" took a three-week hiatus, but thankfully it came back with just as much humor, drama, and "What The Hell Just Happened" moments as ever. Ichabod was kidnapped by a mysterious group, which turned out to be the Freemasons, of which he's a member. They wanted to cut Ichabod's blood tie with Headless, which they wanted to do by having him kill himself.

It's about time for a deeper dive into Ichabod's past on "Sleepy Hollow" and that's exactly what we get from "The Sin Eater," the show's first episode back after a two week hiatus. Unfortunately, it's also an episode that highlights a widening gap between the complexity of the series mythology and the simplicity of its execution. "The Sin Eater" is a perfectly fine, workmanlike installment that does what it needs to do. But when you've been off the air for two weeks, you want to come back with a bigger bang than this. The action kicks off with the requisite dose...

Sneak Peek new images from the Fox TV series "Sleepy Hollow", recently renewed for a second season, and the episode titled "The Sin Eater", airing November 4, 2013.
The series is considered a 'modern-day retelling' of the 1820 short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by author Washington Irving:
"...in 1781, 'Ichabod Crane' dies in the midst of the 'Revolutionary War' while on a mission for 'General George Washington'. He rises from his grave in modern day 'Sleepy Hollow' after the 'Headless Horseman' is summoned back from his watery grave by an unknown party.
"The resurrection of the one causes the resurrection of the other due to the intertwining of their fates as a result of their blood mixing shortly after Crane decapitated the Headless Horseman on the field of battle.
In modern day, 'Lt. Abbie Mills' begins investigating the Headless Horseman after he kills 'Sheriff August Corbin', Mills' mentor and partner.

There's been a distinct whiff of the Good Book at the cinema of late – literally so in the case of Denzel Washington's latest, The Book of Eli. "Dear Lord," he says, "thank you for giving me the strength and the conviction to complete the task you entrusted to me." Denzel is on a mission from God, and not in a Blues Brothers way; his task is to convey a leather-bound book with a cross on it from A to B while killing lots of evil people en route. You don't need to have seen the film to guess the book in question is not The Da Vinci Code.
Meanwhile, in Solomon Kane, James Purefoy says: "Satan's creatures will take me if...
