Mildly interesting mix of crime and pink rape.
HumanoidOfFlesh19 October 2006
The plot of "Subway Serial Rape" is easy to follow:a young bar hostess is viciously raped on a subway by a gang of thee thugs.None of the passengers make any attempt to help her,but a yakuza hit-man reluctantly finds himself mixed up in the ugly affair. The first part of Shuji Kataoka's "Subway Serial Rape" series mixes elements of crime thriller and pinku eiga genre. The film is loaded with sleaze and rough sex,so I was pleased. The title of it is quite misleading, because it features only one fairly nasty gang-rape scene on a subway.I haven't seen the next two installments "Subway Serial Rape-OL Hunting" and "Subway Serial Rape-Uniform Hunting",but the fourth part "Subway Serial Rape-Lover Hunting" is also pretty good.A must-see for fans of Japanese exploitation.

Sharply directed, fascinating crime thriller

Sharply directed, fascinating crime thriller from director Shuji Kataoka. The film smoothly mixes the crime film with the pink film and nearly succeeds.

A man with a briefcase is being pursued by a small yakuza gang. The man resembles one of the gang's leaders. After abandoning his vehicle, the man boards a train where a woman is being raped by three thugs. Intimidated by the rapists, the other commuters do nothing to help the woman. Neither does the man. Later, however, the raped woman, a hot lesbian, reports the rape to the police and a witness comes forward. This complicates things for the man on the run and he is forced to take steps to protect his own identity.

There is only one subway rape, but there are close to half a dozen rough rape scenes throughout the film's seventy minute running time. These are, for the most part, well shot and directed, and veer into S & M territory.

The crime elements are economically presented and the staging of several shootings is original and creative. A scene in which a woman manages to make a phone call during her own rape is an example of this film's novel approach to its subject matter.

Some of the sex/rape scenes go on too long, but it's a minor quibble in a film full of tense situations, some brutal violence and steamy hetero and lesbo action.

Well Thought-Out And Interesting Crime-Film...Oh, And Don't Forget The Rape And Sleaze...

Warning: Spoilers
The title SUBWAY SERIAL RAPE is actually a bit misleading - there's only one rape that takes place on a subway in this film. Regardless - I found this to be one of the better thought-out films in terms of storyline, and as I like a good storyline with my sleaze material, this one gets good marks in my book...

The plot is actually two different stories that converge during a chance encounter. The first is of a Yakuza gang member who pulls an inside job and steals a bunch of blow from his "employer" - the second is of a young lesbo chick on her way to a meeting. Their paths cross when the girl is raped by a gang of thugs on the same subway train that the thief is on. Intimidated by the gang members - no one stops to help the young girl, and she eventually goes to the police to report her story. A witness steps forward who mentions a man with a briefcase, and the Yakuza already suspecting an inside-job, realize that the person seen on the train is most likely their man. Things get crazy when the thief kidnaps the rape-victim to keep her from possibly exposing his identity...

Though not as "rough" as some other rape-oriented pinku material - this first entry in the SUBWAY SERIAL RAPE series shines in terms of storyline, which I like to see in these types of films. I love all the nasty sleaziness, but I enjoy it the most when they can incorporate that into a compelling storyline, and that's done well here. A few of the rape scenes are a bit drawn-out to the point of becoming dull, but that's a minor gripe. A hot lesbo scene involving the rape-victim and her lover, the twisted treatment of the victim after the thief kidnaps her, and the "dark" ending were all big pluses that I wasn't expecting. I'd definitely recommend this one for fans of pinku material who also like a well-written story amongst their sleaze...8.5/10
