Chadwick Boseman earns two posthumous nods.
Netflix led the 2021 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) 2021 with 30 nods on Thursday (February 4), as British stars Vanessa Kirby, Carey Mulligan, Riz Ahmed, Anthony Hopkins, and Gary Oldman earned recognition in the lead acting categories.
After receiving little love from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) yesterday, Minari and Da 5 Bloods, which was shut out at the Globes, each earned three nods alongside Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and The Trial Of The Chicago 7.
Each of those films and One Night In Miami made it on to the ensemble cast list, bolstering their Oscar best picture prospects.

Cyberpunk 2077‘s release brought back the worst of video game culture as male fans lambast female game reviewers for pointing out flaws in the game.
“Reviewing the latest and greatest video games before they’re released is a dream job for anyone who grew up enchanted by the glow of a computer monitor or console. that’s a dream that’s quickly shattered for women in the field once they publish their first review.”

Nicolas Cage’s upcoming Netflix series will have the acclaimed actor explain the origins of the English language’s most popular swear words.
“My usage of profanity has increased due to our current state of affairs, but as I recline back in my chair and contemplate my latest declaration of fuck and/or shit, I can’t help but wonder… what are the origins of these terms I hold so dear? Fortunately,...

Before the Bee Gees spread disco fever across radio waves, dance floors and movie screens, they were somewhat less known for their exquisite pop ballads. And they had a different lead singer: Robin Gibb, who died at the age of 62 on May 20, 2012. Unlike big brother Barry Gibb’s smooth, seductive falsetto – which propelled Seventies strobe-light classics like “Stayin’ Alive,” “Jive Talkin’,” and “Night Fever” — Robin’s lead vocals were warbly, yet soulful, elevating woeful anthems of sinking ships, collapsing caves and lovers strolling to the electric chair. Morrissey fans, recognize!

It’s been way too long since we’ve gotten to see Angela Bettis covered in someone else’s blood. The rare actor capable of endowing homicide with the casualness (and passion) of a hobby, Bettis’ endearingly cracked turn in the titular role of 2002’s “May” — Lucky McKee’s modern fable about an introverted loner who quite literally makes a friend from the spare parts she collects from other people — minted her as an indie horror icon. In fact, Bettis was so indelible in the film that it was hard to notice when she fell off the map a bit during the years that followed; some performances lodge a shiv in your brain and leave it there like it always just happened. As a no-nonsense Arkansas ER nurse/black market kidney-dealer in “12 Hour Shift,” Bettis finally gets the material she needs to deliver another one.
Almost certainly the funniest...

Hospitalization proves more than usually fatal in “12 Hour Shift,” a bloody black comedy from actress turned writer-director Brea Grant. This clever mix of the farcical and macabre finds shady nurse Angela Bettis’ sideline in illicit organ harvesting going seriously awry during an extra-long work stint at a 1999 Arkansas care facility. Although closer to the twistedly gallows-humorous likes of “The Hospital” and Scorcese’s underrated “Bringing Out the Dead” than the sizable subgenre of hospital horror mellers, it will most likely find an appreciative initial audience among genre fans. Magnet plans release to available theaters and on demand Oct. 2, following a brief, Covid-hobbled festival tour.
Though she started out in prestige dramatic roles for Zeffirelli and James Mangold, Bettis became a favorite for horror aficionados as of 2002, via title roles in both indie cult object “May” and a TV “Carrie.” Her forays into that territory invariably up the movie’s game,...

Few things are as scary as real life these days, but for those seeking more refined thrills and chills, this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival continues to provide the best in “genre” entertainment. While the “genre” moniker is wide-ranging enough to stir up images of everything from slasher films to kung fu epics, the annual Canadian festival has consistently stretched the concept to embrace all sorts of off-beat features that go somehow beyond the norm of mainstream cinema.
This year’s lineup is no different, encompassing not just terrifying horror movies and wild martial arts action, but true stories about unique people, unexpected romantic dramas, even a careful examination of how a cute cartoon frog became a symbol of hate. If it’s weird or wacky, it just might land at Fantasia.
This year’s festival runs August 20 through September 2, though it is only available online to Canadian audiences.

Warning: Oh, c’mon, this ain’t your first rodeo. The following contains spoilers for Sunday’s Yellowstone, and you darn well know it!
Just a week ago, I wasn’t sure that we’d ever see Yellowstone’s Jimmy back in the saddle again, but in Sunday’s episode, he went on what I suspect he’d agree was the ride of his life. In other developments, Beth kinda-sorta proposed to Rip (or at least proposed that he propose), Kayce accepted the Livestock Commissioner post that wasn’t so much offered to as inflicted on him, and John contemplated...

KollywoodHis outlandish clothes, talent for mixing comedy with dance, incredible flexibility, and sensuality make every Prabhu Deva song unforgettable.Sowmya RajendranIt's jelly, it's rubber, it's Prabhu Deva! It's April and everyone's sitting at home bored out of their skulls, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. If we need a situation song to describe our condition, perhaps there's nothing like Prabhu Deva's 'April May-ile' from Idhayam. The rough translation of the first few lines of the song goes, "In the months of April and May, there is no greenery, everything is dried up. I don't like this city anymore, I don't like this world anymore… it's super boring! Do we really need this? Go away, man!" Of course, Prabhu Deva and his friends from the 1991 movie were singing about the lack of college girls on the road during these summer months, but in our current situation, things are even worse. Nobody...

Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and writer-director Lana Wachowski have officially returned to “The Matrix,” 17 years after saying goodbye to the franchise in the polarizing last entry of the original trilogy “The Matrix Revolutions.” The San Francisco Examiner spotted the Warner Bros. production kicking off filming in the Chinatown section of the Bay Area with stars Reeves and Moss. The actors are returning to their iconic roles of Neo and Trinity, but “Matrix” fans would hardly know that from the first batch of set photos and video from the Examiner. Reeves’ Neo is not looking anything like the cyber-warrior fans adore (the character’s trademark black sunglasses and clothing are missing). Instead, Neo just looks like Reeves stepped out to grab a coffee. Most “Matrix” fans probably wouldn’t expect to see Neo sporting a beanie and blue jeans. What does that mean for “Matrix 4”? Warner Bros. has yet to reveal...

Common sense would dictate that a studio coming off back-to-back years where a superhero film earned more than $1 billion at the box office would be in good shape. However, over at Warner Bros., just because “Aquaman” and “Joker” both reached the milestone, it appears that there’s more uncertainty than ever before with the studio’s superhero properties.
According to a new report from Variety, given the recent box office success, WB is now trying to figure out how to fully move ahead with new takes on established properties, new producers on already-announced projects, more spin-offs with villains, and yes, even that fabled “Flash” film that keeps getting delayed.
