My grandmother had taped this movie for me once when we had a free week trial of the Disney Channel in the 80's. I randomly came across it today and it sparked my memory.
This is an interesting tale about a little creature made from ceramic that comes to life. He then explores his world, meeting people, and making friends along the way. However, everyone he meets warns him to be wary of Manxcat because he will eat him. So our brave little Manxmouse sets out to find Manxcat and see what this business is all about.
I enjoyed it as a kid. I was kind of boggled now as an adult as to what I found so appealing about it as a child. Perhaps it was that our hero, Manxmouse, always took "the third option" that none of the other characters had thought of before. He faces everything with an naive fearlessness. When told it was his fate to be devoured he decided to go and face it outright.
It is a sweet movie. The English dubbing is surprisingly not horrible, and it was lovely to reminisce about my childhood. The animation is right on par with what you would expect from the time period. I think children of today would find the whole thing old and boring, but for those of us of the 80's would sit and grin through the whole thing.
