Frankie Muniz shared on the latest episode of “I’m a Celebrity Australia” (via News.com.au) that he once “walked off” the set of his beloved Fox sitcom “Malcolm in the Middle” when everyone else was refusing to stand up to certain people who were “controlling or rude or disrespectful.” Muniz starred on the comedy as the eponymous child genius for seven seasons, but he missed two episodes because of his decision.
“There were two episodes I’m not in. I walked off the set,” Muniz said, explaining that his actions were due to set tensions. “Everyone was so afraid to stand up when certain people were controlling or rude or disrespectful. Like they walked on pins and needles. I was so mortified by seeing people afraid to stand up for themselves, I was like: ‘Say something.’”

Summer isn’t over yet but HBO and its streaming arm Max are already moving on to fall. With its list of new releases for August 2023, Max is focusing on football! The American kind, mind you, not the actually footy kind.
August 2023 sees the release of two major football documentaries on HBO and Max. The first is the premiere of Hard Knocks on Aug. 10. The new season of long-running NFL training camp docuseries will center on the New York Jets, new employers of legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers. On Aug. 23, Max will air the aptly named Bs High. The doc tells the stranger-than-fiction story of high school football team Bishop Sycamore, which pulled off one of the more notable sports scams you’re likely to ever hear about.
Not of the football variety but in keeping with the North American sports theme will be season 2 of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty on Aug.

As befitting its status as one of the world’s biggest companies, every now and then Amazon likes to take a big swing with its Prime Video originals. With its list of new releases for April 2023, the streamer is taking one of its biggest swings yet.

Both in their mid-thirties, Hilary Duff and Josh Peck are learning how to balance their acting careers with parenthood. However, just two decades ago, the pair were both trying to navigate their complex lives as young actors. While their lives share many parallels, Peck has made it clear that he and Duff are very different kinds of child stars for one specific reason.
Josh Peck and Hilary Duff had different experiences as child stars
In the early 2000s, Josh Peck and Hilary Duff were teens thrust into stardom. While the two were both child actors in the late 1990s, they both were able to rise to prominence after landing leading roles on hit kid’s sitcoms. For Peck, his big break came after landing a starring role on the Nickelodeon teen sitcom Drake & Josh. Peck portrayed the lovable Josh Nichols, from 2004 to 2007, alongside his on-screen step-brother Drake Parker, played by Drake Bell.

May isn’t quite summer yet but it is usually time that the networks start wrapping up their newest shows and preparing for a relatively fallow summer period. Since HBO isn’t a network, it has no such business model. But May sees the winding down of some HBO blockbusters all the same.
While there are some notable new releases for HBO in May 2020, the bigger story might be the things that are ending. Westworld concludes its third season on May 3 while new series Run wraps up on May 24. Thankfully the film losses in May aren’t too bad for HBO, unless the Agent Cody Banks saga drives a lot of traffic.
The most notable TV premiere in May is I Know This Much is True, a book adaptation starring Mark Ruffalo. This is a very bleak story coming along at a bleak time in history but perhaps those two things will cancel out.

Coronavirus. It sounds like the title of a classic Bond movie, à la “GoldenEye,” “Moonraker” or “Octopussy.”
April 10 was supposed to see the release of Bond’s latest adventure, “No Time to Die.” Instead, action fans are stuck at home, an invisible villain is threatening world domination, and 007 has done the unthinkable: He’s chickened out and gone into hiding, leaving us to sort out this catastrophe on our own, only to circle back and “die another day” when the smoke clears.
Not cool, 007. Not cool.
Fortunately, no franchise has inspired more imitations, homages and parodies than Bond, leaving us with plenty of backup options available for home viewing. So if you’re thirsting for Bond and a well-shaken quarantini won’t quench it, here are 14 (the double of seven) recommendations to tide you over.
Layer Cake (2004)
Why not start with the movie that proved Daniel Craig could fill Sean Connery’s shoes?...

Sutton Foster is the ostensible lead of “Younger” as a secret 40-something book editor and divorced mom who continues to pass herself off as a hip millennial — even as the Big Apple-based sitcom created by “Sex and the City’s” Darren Star just kicked off its sixth season this week. But her winsome yet duplicitous charade is starting to get old, especially when more and more of her colleagues are already in on her ruse.
Meanwhile, Hilary Duff as her editing partner Kelsey Peters – who is in the know about Liza’s real age and situation — is an actual millennial and acts as a supportive mentor to her. Her randy sexual escapades with rival editor Zane (Charles Michael Davis) and author client Jake Devereux (Jason Ralph) on last year’s fifth season sometimes recall the adventurous bedroom proclivities of Kim Cattrall’s PR pro Samantha Jones. For season 6, Kelsey...

Hilary Duff has been famous since she was 13 and Lizzie McGuire launched her into the stratosphere of the Disney Channel universe. The show spawned dolls, books and a 2003 feature film, and Duff became one of the biggest stars of the '00s, her combination of cheery wit and photogenic adorableness the perfect recipe for success at the perfect time. And Duff enjoyed a bigger bounce than some from her Disney fame, starring in tween-favorite movies like Cheaper by the Dozen, Agent Cody Banks and A Cinderella Story within a couple years. Plus she had the dual actress-pop princess thing going that was so especially popular at the time, releasing her...

With little fanfare, YouTube started streaming popular ad-supported movies for free. Last month, movies like Legally Blonde and pics from the Rocky franchise (Rocky I-v to be specific) popped up on the streaming service.
This is a new move for YouTube as they used to only offer movies and TV shows for purchase or rental. It also comes after Roku introduced its own free, ad-supported movie selection called The Roku Channel which is available on the web. Walmart’s streaming service Vudu, as well as Tubi, offer their own selection of free films.
YouTube hasn’t disclosed the deals it has made with studios and according to AdAge, Rohit Dhawan, director of product management at YouTube said that there will eventually be a way for advertisers to pay to sponsor individual movies, giving users complimentary views and exclusive screenings.

Netflix has teamed with director McG for alien invasion sci-fi adventure film Rim of the World.
McG, otherwise known as Joseph McGinty Nichol, has been keeping himself busy, both as a director of action flicks and as a television producer for, up until recently, shows like Supernatural, Fox's beleaguered, currently on-the-bubble Lethal Weapon, and Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments, and is currently developing a TV series adaptation of the 1994 Arnold Schwarzenegger spy actioner, True Lies. However, the fruits of his film directing resume keep heading to streaming giant Netflix, and one such project, called Rim of the World, will be no exception.

More than 10 years since Malcom in the Middle‘s end, Frankie Muniz took center stage again on Dancing with the Stars, and he’ll compete in the finale Tuesday night.
While the actor, 31, hasn’t completely shunned Hollywood in the last decade — appearing in Criminal Minds, The Mysteries of Laura, and Sharknado 3 — Muniz shifted his attention to other interests.

Malcolm isn’t in the middle anymore!
Although he’s competing against Broadway performers, athletes and former boy-banders, Frankie Muniz is on top of the Dancing With the Stars leader board.
Judge Bruno Tonioli awarded the 31-year-old actor the first nine of show’s 25th season following his Latin Night cha-cha with pro partner Witney Carson — and he’s the most shocked of anybody.
“I feel like I’m in a fantasy world,” the Agent Cody Banks star told People. “I went into this with zero dance experience, zero expectations of myself. I just wanted to do it and try.

Malcolm is again comfortably in the middle. “Malcolm in the Middle” alum Frankie Muniz impressed Monday night in his “Dancing With the Stars” debut, when “Agent Cody Banks” performed a top-notch Foxtrot with partner Witney Carson. “I was screaming like you were in a boy band,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba offered. “That is exactly the type of performance that our fans fall in love with.” Also Read: 'Dancing With the Stars' Season 25 Cast Unveiled: Frankie Muniz, Nick Lachey to Compete But that didn’t entirely translate into a big score. Nearly (but not quite) redeemed by its good nature and the megaton charisma of its two stars, “Central Intelligence” is a dopey blockbuster diversion that will surely keep United Airlines passengers entertained during the dog days of summer. Directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber (“Dodgeball,” “We’re the Millers”) and shot with the safety on at all times, this unambitious buddy comedy has all the biting wit and visual flair of a movie that already seems resigned to its final resting place on the tiny airplane screens where it will be interred. And yet, “Central Intelligence” knows something that audiences will be delighted to learn — or, more likely, rediscover — for themselves: Dwayne Johnson is a fucking national treasure.
Our story, eerily similar to that of Adam Sandler’s recent Netflix disaster, “The Do-Over,” begins all the way back in a magical time known as 1996. An obese teenager named Robbie Weirdicht (Johnson, his face plastered on to the body of an obese teenager as the result of the sophisticated uglification technology that allowed Brad Pitt to be an elderly dwarf in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”), stands alone in his high school’s locker room showers, butt-naked and belting out his very own version of En Vogue’s 1992 pop masterpiece, “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It),” which was definitely picked for its cultural specificity and extraordinary comedic value and not because it was the first thing that Thurber received clearance to use.
Meanwhile, in the packed gymnasium outside the locker room, prom king Calvin Joyner (Kevin Hart) is enjoying the last of his glory days at the head of a pep rally for the graduating class. Alas, his “follow your dreams” speech interrupted by a pack of sniveling bullies who heave Robbie’s naked body onto the hardwood basketball court floor for the entire school to see. Sure, that’s probably a serious criminal misdemeanor in the eyes of “the law” or whatever, but boys will be boys. Calvin, a mensch to the core, rushes to help cover him up.

Cut to 20 years later: Calvin is a mid-level accountant who’s disappointed with his life, while Robbie — now going by the name Bob Stone — has evolved into a rippling half-Samoan demi-god who’s strong enough to carry an entire movie on his back. And yet, despite undergoing the most ridiculous physical transformation this side of Captain America, Bob is still a total doofus. Reuniting with Calvin at a local bar on the eve of their class reunion, Bob shows up rocking a fanny pack and a skin-tight t-shirt with a unicorn emblazoned across the chest. Viewers familiar with “Pain & Gain” know that Johnson is at his best (and most infectiously self-amused) when playing against type, and he seems to be having the time of his life as he belittles his co-star into playing the straight man.
Of course, there’s more to this story — the artist formerly known as “The Rock” wouldn’t just be a run-of-the-mill dweeb. We’re talking about Hercules. We’re talking about the Scorpion King. We’re talking about a guy who fought an earthquake in last summer’s “San Andreas,” and made that motherfucker apologize for every inch of its fault line. In other words, Calvin is the only one who’s even the least bit surprised when it turns out that Bob is a rogue, possibly psychotic C.I.A. agent who’s on the run from his boss (a thankless Amy Ryan) with a MacGuffin. “You’re Jason Bourne in jorts!,” yelps Hart, in one of his few memorable lines.
Calvin is the only guy Bob trusts (the movie is sweet like that), and the two get wrapped up in an explosively stupid adventure that — thanks to a tight $50 million budget and the fact that Thurber directs with all the visual panache of a McDonald’s commercial — often feels less like Jason Bourne than it does Agent Cody Banks. Fortunately, Thurber seems to have embraced his various limitations, and “Central Intelligence” doesn’t strain towards being a full-throated action-comedy. In fact, its few shootouts and car crashes are so half-assed that the movie occasionally feels like a deliberate throwback to the middle-brow studio fare of the ’80s and ’90s, which feels somewhat appropriate given that Hard and Johnson’s archetype-based chemistry is pretty much just “Twins” all over again.
The laughs are often just as limp, particularly because Hart doesn’t appear to be super comfortable with the idea that he’s there to tee-up jokes for his co-star. In the “Ride Along” movies, he and Ice Cube were a united front of unfunniness; here, Hart is just nipping at Johnson’s heels. Calvin’s default mode is “scared shitless,” and while the character serves a necessary function, he could pretty much be played by anyone (brilliant cameos from the likes of Jason Bateman and Kumail Nanjiani further emphasize how few of the one-liners land when Hart is left to deliver them).
Perhaps the problem is that Hart no longer needs to be anyone’s foil — he’s excellently empathetic in the more dramatic moments when he’s struggling to become the hero of his own story, and the film leaves us with reason to believe that Johnson isn’t the only one who should continue to subvert his image. And Johnson, good as he is, should only go further around the bend from here. For all the fun he’s having, he’s only truly electric in the moments when Thurber entertains the possibility that Bob might be a delusional psychopath who’s just flown over the cuckoo’s nest.
With a tepid studio offering like this, in which themes include such bold ideas as “bullies are bad,” “guns are fun,” and “all those haters from high school would worship you if you weren’t so fat,” there’s no hope that Johnson might dive off the deep end and create something special. And yet, between “Central Intelligence” and “Pain & Gain,” there’s reason to believe that he’ll get there, one day — it’s still too soon to smell what the Rock is cooking, but you can feel him firing up the grill.
Grade: C+
“Central Intelligence” opens in theaters on Friday.

‘Most importantly, the UK catalogue has exclusive dominion over perhaps my all-time favourite Netflix discovery: 2013 torture porn indie Would You Rather’
Last year, after pressure from a number of studios, Netflix added a clause to its subscription contract warning that it would terminate the account of any subscriber found to be using a Vpn – a service designed to mask a computer’s location – in order to access international versions of its streaming catalogue. While the company has seemingly yet to follow through on this threat, its introduction does draw attention to an uncomfortable truth for Netflix: the company provides a service that varies dramatically from place to place. The UK catalogue, for instance, offers less than half the titles available in the Us, and costs more.

After spectacularly failing to launch a franchise with Screen Gems’ awful The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, director Harald Zwart is scaling down for his next film, having signed on to direct a microbudgeted horror flick for Blumhouse Productions.
Details about the pic are being kept tightly under wraps for now, but one intriguing aspect of the project, scripted by Robert Ben Garant (Jessabelle), is that it’s being aimed at families, not typically a target audience for horror films.
Still, if any studio can pull off a family-friendly horror movie, it’s Blumhouse, which has taken the genre by storm in the past few years with titles like Paranormal Activity, The Purge and Insidious.
Though Zwart’s credibility as a director was somewhat tarnished by City of Bones‘ abject failure at the box office and with critics, he pulled off a huge hit in 2010 with The Karate Kid, and...

As a violent, tongue-in-cheek pastiche of the spy genre, many had questioned whether Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Secret Service would carve out an audience of its own. And given that Fox delayed the action-comedy by some four months, expectations for Vaughn’s first outing behind the camera since X-Men: First Class had begun to wane somewhat.
But if the early reviews for The Secret Service are any indication, the director has got a sure-fire hit on his hands with the Colin Firth-led flick, with the general consensus being that the film serves up a thrilling, slick and ultimately entertaining experience.
The Guardian: “They say the clothes make the man, and these are some killer duds….Despite the presence of grandfatherly Michael Caine, Kingsman’s tone is about as far from the Christopher Nolan-style superhero film as you can get. Verisimilitude is frequently traded in for a rich laugh.

FX is expanding Ryan Murphy's empire and has given a straight-to-series order to a true-crime anthology called American Crime Story, the network announced today. The first season will cover the O.J. Simpson trial and will be based on Jeffrey Toobin's book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson. Murphy, who is among the show's executive producers, will direct the first episode, from a script by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, whose previous writing collaborations include Man on the Moon, The People vs. Larry Flynt, and uh, Agent Cody Banks. The series is meant to be a sort of companion piece to American Horror Story, addressing a different real-crime saga every season. The show will go into production in early 2015, so one assumes casting is nigh. Is there a way to stunt-cast an actual Kardashian into this somehow? If anyone can do it, Ryan Murphy can.

From one superhero franchise to another. Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, the writers behind X-Men: First Class, have signed on to mighty morph the Power Rangers film into something a little more sophisticated than the Saturday morning kid’s hour. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Robert Orci, one of the screenwriters behind the Transformers and Star Trek franchises, has also hopped on board to serve as the film’s executive producer. He will team up with Miller and Stentz to formulate a new story around the team of teenaged superheroes, but he’s leaving the actual screenwriting duties to the twosome, whose writing credits as a team also include 2011′s Thor and the highly important Frankie Muniz teen spy flick Agent Cody Banks. But the three shouldn’t have much of a problem finding inspiration in the source material — or even reason to change it much, actually. First broadcast on television in 1993, Power Rangers derived material from...

Now that the mad rush by every major studio to schedule their buzziest projects in the summer of 2015 appears to have subsided, savvy execs are beginning to look further forward to book slots in 2016. Yesterday, we brought you news that Warner Bros. had slotted romantic comedy How to Be Single for that year’s Valentine’s Day weekend, and now Sony is getting in on the action by handing their children’s book series adaptation Goosebumps a spring release date of March 23, 2016.
Currently, the Rob Letterman-helmed film, inspired by R.L. Stine’s massively popular Ya horror anthology series, has the weekend all to itself, though it will probably face stiff competition from two holdovers: Summit’s already-scheduled Divergent sequel Allegiant and DreamWorks’ ambitious Mumbai Musical. Putting Goosebumps so close to both films indicates that Sony has a large amount of confidence in the film’s ability to overcome the pair,...

As the movie world opens its doors to more and more young adult adaptations, and finds that they are somewhat overpopulated with dystopias… and vampires, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones tries to find its audience, and largely by playing against type wherever possible. It’s hard to sell that in the summary though.
Our story opens with Clary (Lily Collins) becoming exposed to the supernatural world she never knew she was a part of. Strange things start happening, especially the sudden appearance of a symbol that seems to follow Clary around, even to the point that she can’t stop drawing it. This leads us in to her mother, Jocelyn (Lena Headey), disappearing, and now Clary has only the mysterious Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower) to rely on if she wants to figure out what’s going on.
Unfortunately, she just watched Jace cut someone down in a club, and...

Sometimes, movie characters have a death wish – if you’re signing up to be a villainous henchman in Gotham City, chances are you’re going to have a short life expectancy, and if you find yourself in a lakeside cabin with a group of teenage friends, telling ghost stories and having promiscuous sex, you’re probably not long for this world.
But what about those characters who just plain live dangerously? Whose life decisions and leisure time activities unwittingly place them in mortal peril, without their ever realising until it’s just too late?
Well, thanks to a new infographic released by Endsleigh, which you can see at the bottom of this article, we have a guide to which movie characters probably invited the Grim Reaper to take them a little too easily…

There is most certainly an audience for the film "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones," fans of the six (planned) novels about demons, supernatural demon fighters, vampires, werewolves, witches and warlocks.
They'll thrill to all the endless litany of runes, talismans, history and "rules" of this world of shadow-hunters descended from an angel that showed up to help crusading knights a thousand years ago. They'll eagerly await the brief, throw-away visit to the "City of Bones" (a cemetery) of the title.
And if you love exposition and shapely if bland young actors in leather, skinny jeans, knee boots, Goth cocktail dresses and heavy eye makeup, this may be the movie for you.
Lily Collins is Clary, the birthday girl whose mother (Lena Headey of "300") never told her about her heritage, why she keeps seeing signs and people with great hair stalking and stabbing demons in nightclubs and what not. Clary,...

You know how at the end of Return of the Jedi, Luke is talking to Leia and he mentions how she's his sister and she says, "I know. Somehow, I've always known."c I don't know about you, but I've always wondered why Luke didn't say something like, "Whatc You mean when you had your tongue down my throat on Hoth you knew you were my sisterc!c!c" It was a little kinky, but just wait until you get a dose of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, a film so kinky the porno industry won't even have to alter the title for the pornographic spin-off. Just imagine if after Luke and Leia confirm they were brother and sister they just said, "You know, I don't really believe it. Doesn't feel like we're related, maybe we should give this whole 'me and you' thing a go, regardless of the genetic consistency.

A trend has been cutting through Hollywood in recent years, a tendency for greedy movie studios to adapt as many properties as they can get their grubby, money hungry little hands on. Whether it’s comic book franchises – easily the most profitable of the lot – or video games, toys, even board games, there’s seemingly no cap on Hollywood’s obsession with adapting every possible (and impossible) property into a ridiculous movie.
While these projects come and go depending on their viability in the cinematic medium, here are 10 projects that have been lingering around for years and aren’t showing any signs of going away. Here are 10 movies so ridiculous that they by all usual logic should not become movies, and with just a few exceptions, they will surely become blights on cinema’s good name…
