Environmentalist Sam "LaBudde, 34, a former fisheries biologist, signed on as deckhand and cook aboard a Panamanian-registered fishing boat in 1987. For months, he secretly videotaped the slaughter of dolphins caught in drift nets during tuna harvests off the Mexico coast. Widespread TV airing of his graphic footage, and resulting consumer outcries, led to last April's decision by major U.S. tuna firms to stop buying tuna caught by drift nets."(Los Angeles Times, April 22, 1991). LaBudde won the Goldman Environmental Prize that year and the first national television coverage of his footage was on MTV.

MTV News coverage of Bill Graham Presents Earthquake Relief Concert at the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center in Oakland Ca. on Nov, 26th, 1989. The main news footage that aired for the duration of the following week, repeating many times daily between music videos, featured the concert Producer, Bill Graham talking with actor Dane Andrew whom volunteered his time to be the exclusive on site liaison for comedian Bob Hope and support the fundraiser concert in anyway possible. The event raised over 2 million dollars to help San Francisco Bay Area earthquake victims.
