The original Max series “Full Circle” debuts on July 13. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the new drama investigates a kidnapping gone wrong in New York, revealing the secrets and lies of multiple characters. Or as the trailer warns: “Everything is connected.” The six-episode limited series stars Zazie Beetz, Claire Danes, Jim Gaffigan, Jharrel Jerome, Timothy Olyphant, and Dennis Quaid.
Watch the “Full Circle” trailer:
The four-part documentary “Last Call: When A Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York” is set in the early 1990s as the AIDS crisis worsens. The media’s distorted coverage of the gay victims, coupled with the homophobic biases of the criminal justice system, undermine the investigation. The docuseries — which premieres on Max on July 9 — illustrates how the LGBTQ+ community fought to solve the murders and demand attention for those murdered.

Big George Foreman is a film directed by George Tillman Jr. starring Khris Davis.
Some movies simply wait for a great story to do all the work.
Foreman’s life was quite a story.
We can’t say the same for the film.
Movie Review
Some said the voiceover was anti-cinematic, and it was Scorsese (among others) who denied it film after film. This Big George Foreman wants to have a lot of Scorsese without achieving his pace, effectiveness and, above all, grace, and narrative freshness.
Big George Foreman is a film that resorts, at all times, to the obvious, to direct compassion, to that piece of American History a thousand times told in a thousand better ways and with more elaborate plots and less flat characters and, in the end, with more to say.

Keke Palmer has seamlessly transitioned from child star to adult actor. This is a challenging feat for many actors who start out as children.
The star, whose real name is Lauren Keyana Palmer, began singing at church as a child. She has gone on to star in major movies such as Hustlers with Jennifer Lopez in 2019, and Jordan Peele’s Nope in 2022.
Palmer has been on Broadway, hosted talk shows, and was named one of Time Magazine’s most influential people in the world in 2019. However, before all that, she began as the star of a major movie at just 11 years old.
Keke Palmer as a child star
Palmer grew up in Illinois but her parents moved the family to California for their daughter’s career. Her acting debut was in 2004’s Barbershop 2: Back in Business. It didn’t take long after that for the young actress to appear in TV series and movies.

As longtime fans of knowing what’s coming to (and going from) Hulu every month will recall, February was Love Month, March was Karate Month, April was Misogyny Month, and now we’ll soon be moving into May, which is apparently Sequel Month. This May, Hulu subscribers will be able to enjoy all of their favorite sequels, including Another 48 Hrs., Barbershop 2: Back In Business, Cabin Fever 2, Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home, Free Willy 3: The Rescue, Free Willy 4: The Revenge, Naked Gun 2 & 1/2: The Smell Of Fear, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows, a bunch of James Bond movies, Beauty Shop, and What About Bob?, which could be a sequel to any number of Bill Murray movies if you believe the fan theories.

Next month, Netflix offers up a big selection of films of all stripes — modern to classic, animated to live action, Best Picture winners to teen phenomenons — and we’ve picked seven that you should watch as soon as humanly possible, either for the first time or as part of a nostalgic little binge. Enjoy.
1. “Unforgiven” (available October 1)
The winner of four Oscars, including Best Picture, Clint Eastwood’s 1992 film “Unforgiven” is the last Western he directed and starred in, and he made it count. About an aging outlaw tasked with one final job, the film examines the myths of the West and how they’re perverted and distorted over time, as well as the contradictions within established national archetypes. It’s arguably Eastwood’s defining masterpiece, and one of the very best films of the 90s. See it immediately.
2. “Dazed and Confused” (available October 1)

Another month is on its way, and that means another round of movies and television heading to Netflix. October is one of the more stacked months for the service in recent memory, and plenty of originals and non-originals will be streaming very soon. Let’s take a look at what’s coming and going on Netflix in October 2016. Titles in bold are my personal recommendations to check out either when they arrive or before they leave. Coming in October 2016 October 1 A Cinderella Story (2004) Barbershop 2: Back in Business (2004) Blue Streak (1999) Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)

New Original Programming:
“Meet the Donors” (8/1)
“Dios, Inc.” - Season 1 Finale (8/5)
“Hitchcock/Truffaut” (8/8)
“Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the La Rams” (8/10)
“El Negocio” - Season 3 Premiere (8/12)
IndieWire Pick: “The Night Of” (Series Finale) (8/28)
HBO’s well-received limited series “The Night Of” will wrap up its eight-part whodunnit in late August. Steve Zaillian’s gritty drama, which examines a man’s fate after he wakes up charged with the murder of a relative stranger, debuted to rave reviews from critics and audiences. IndieWire’s Ben Travers writes, “By actively engaging on personal and political levels, Zaillian sucks the viewer into a nightmare scenario wholly dependent on two verdicts: first, whether or not Naz is found guilty, but also if he really did it.” Here’s hoping the series can maintain its slow burn thrills all the way to the end.

The Ice Age flicks are the cinematic equivalent of drive-through nuggets of reconstituted chicken slurry served by a bored teenager in a cardboard hat. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing
I’m “biast” (con): really hate this series
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
Manny the Mammoth is back! In this Very Special Episode of Ice Age, Manny gets exasperated by the fact that his wife, Ellie, and daughter, Peaches, are independent creatures with minds of their own: “Women! I don’t get ’em!” he exclaims [insert laugh-track clip of a 1967 studio audience roaring]. Watch what happens when Manny forgets his wedding anniversary — he’s gonna be in trouble with the missus! [studio audience groans dramatically] And then there’s Peaches’ upcoming wedding to loveable doofus Julian. [studio audience: “awwwww!”] Is it the end of Manny’s world now that his little girl is officially all grown up? It just might be… what with that massive asteroid heading straight for planet Earth!

In a blink of an eye it’ll be October. The air will turn crisp, the leaves will turn beautiful shades of orange, and you’ll get to crack out your favorite sweatshirt (unless you live in Los Angeles like me, in which case it’ll be 90 and you’ll sweat involuntarily). But rather than playing outside, what you really want to do is watch Netflix. October presents a whole new list of viewing opportunities with classics like Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Patton. If you choose to skip a day of work, what could be better than Ferris Bueller’s Day Off or Snow Day? And then there are no shortage of Netflix originals that are being added. The ones I’m looking most forward to are Mascots from Christopher Guest (Spinal Tap, Best in Show) and the third season of the under-appreciated Mr. Peabody and Sherman Show. For...

This film franchise zeros in on something that many small towns and big cities (really the neighborhoods in said cities) share: mainly a place where everyone seems to gather. Some place aside from the obvious schools, city halls, and churches (or synagogues). It’s actually a business. There’s a popular corner diner, maybe a bar or pub, perhaps a locally owned clothing store. Well, for this neighborhood in the south side of Chicago it’s the hair salon known to moviegoers thanks to 2002’s Barbershop. That modest little “slice of life” flick was popular that it inspired a sequel two years later (Barbershop 2: Back In Business). The following year saw a spin-off (Beauty Shop) and a TV series on premium cable channel Showtime. The scissors and shavers have been silenced for almost a dozen years, but now movie goers have another appointment with Calvin and his crew for Barbershop: The Next Cut.

Last weekend the top twelve at the domestic box office was down 24.3% when compared to last year. In fact, it was the first time since 2008 that the top twelve films at the box office failed to top $100 million in the 15th weekend of the year. This weekend won't have any such issues with Disney's The Jungle Book looking to become one of the top five April openings of all-time. Additionally, Warners' Barbershop: The Next Cut should deliver the largest opening that franchise has seen while Lionsgate's Criminal will likely finish just outside the top five. Disney has tapped into something special when it comes to adapting some of their most iconic animated movies into live action features in recent years. Last year's Cinderella opened with $67.8 million in mid-March, the year before Maleficent opened with $69.4 million and, in 2010, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland opened with an astonishing $116.1 million before grossing over $1 billion worldwide.

Rather than instantly being excited when Barbershop 3 was announced, most moviegoers were instead surprised. Not only were 2002.s Barbershop and 2004.s Barbershop 2: Back In Business hardly box office smashes, neither was the Queen Latifah led 2005 spin-off Beauty Shop. But one man who has been tirelessly working for over a decade to get another Barbershop film made is producer Robert Teitel. And he.s now explained why it took so long. Robert Teitel talked about why it.s taken so long for Barbershop: The Next Cut to make it to the big screen when I visited the set of the upcoming comedy last year. And the producer admitted that he found resistance from studios to make an "urban" film, all of which changed because of the success of Malcolm D. Lee.s The Best Man Holiday. What.s serendipitous about this turn of events is that Malcolm D. Lee is...

It has been 12 years since Barbershop 2: Back In Business disappointingly grossed $11 million less than its 2002 original. So when it was announced that Barbershop 3 would be released over a decade after its predecessor, movie fans were rather surprised. This shock extended to the Barbershop cast and crew, too. But during a set visit to see Barbershop 3 being filmed last year, Cedric The Entertainer revealed to me and a group of visiting press that he had one specific caveat for returning to the comedy: that his character didn’t die. As the main source of comedy in the first two films, Cedric The Entertainer’s return as Eddie was a key component in not just the hopeful success of Barbershop 3, but it actually being made, too. And from the get go, the 51-year-old was insistent, explaining: The biggest thing is that Eddie was already old. As long as he ...

Barbershop has another sequel coming our way more than a decade after the unfortunate Barbershop 2: Back in Business. It’s co-ed now because it has to be or the internet gets angry, and there is a lot of trouble in the neighborhood it looks like.
Nicki Minaj, Regina Hall, Eve, and Jaszmine Lewis join the shop too. Will audiences remember the charm and intellect of the first film rather than the dumbed down sequel that came after? Will this movie take these timely issues and have something to say or keep it safe? Someone go see this and let me know.

It’s been almost 12 years since Barbershop 2: Back In Business was released. During this time the pleas for a third instalment to the franchise have been nearly non-existent. But, lo and behold, Barbershop 3 has been in the works, and now we’ve got our very first peek at what the comedy will look like. Barbershop: The Next Cut is almost certainly not going to win the franchise any new fans, but from the look of the returning actors, and the injection of new blood in this trailer, it should easily have enough to placate those who were amused by the original. The Next Cut looks to merge together the first two Barbershop films with the world of the Queen Latifah -ed spin-off, Beauty Shop. Since both Calvin’s Barbershop and the Beauty Shop were struggling, the owners decided to knock down the wall separating them ...

MGM is betting that the Barbershop franchise has plenty of life left in it, luring Ice Cube and Cedric The Entertainer back to reprise their starring roles. Now the film has recent Oscar winner Common attached. The original 2003 movie found Cube as the South Side Chicago barber Calvin Palmer, a man who plied his trade surrounded by friends, lovers and oddballs. It was successful enough to spawn not only a sequel in 2004’s Barbershop 2: Back In Business, but a spin-off in the Queen Latifah-centric Beauty Shop and a short-lived TV series.Exactly what will happen in the new film isn’t yet clear, but we could predict lots of banter, friendly insults and possibly some comment on the current economic climate. The Best Man director Malcolm D. Lee is on board to call the shots, working from a script by Kenya Barris, creator of the Us TV sitcom Black-ish.

Palmer said she'll be stepping into the title role in Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella starting Sept. 9 at the Broadway Theatre. She will become the first African-American to play the part on the Great White Way.
"It's honestly one of those things that I can't believe is really happening," Palmer said by phone Friday from her Los Angeles home. "I'm very excited. Very excited and nervous as well -- a bunch of feelings all at once."

While the financial success of “Ride Along” proved that comedian Kevin Hart can be a box office draw, it also seems to have provided a little boost towards Ice Cube’s career. MGM Studios have just announced that they will re-open the “Barbershop” for a third time with Cube signing on to reprise his role as Calvin Palmer in "Barbershop 3." This announcement comes ten years after “Barbershop 2: Back in Business” was released and the studio hopes Cedric the Entertainer and Queen Latifah will also return to the franchise. Both “Barbershop” movies were solid financial hits back in the day. The first film, which came out in 2002, made over $77 million on a $12 million budget; “Back in Business” made slightly less money ($65 million), but still managed to be a make more than double its budget ($30 million). The movies revolved around the adventures of Calvin Palmer and his crew of barbers who...

MGM is ready to give the Barbershop franchise another go. Ice Cube is said to be in talks for Barbershop 3, which will also bring back Cedric the Entertainer and Queen Latifah.
The original Barbershop movie was directed by Ride Along‘s Tim Story. If you recall, Cube starred as Calvin Palmer, Jr., a man who inherited a South Side Chicago barbershop from his father. He spends his normal days working in the shop, interacting with co-workers and the surrounding community.
Cube and Cedric the Entertainer starred in both the original film and the 2004 sequel, Barbershop 2: Back in Business, directed by Kevin Rodney Sullivan. That film also featured a “guest appearance” by Queen Latifah, who then headlined the Barbershop franchise spinoff, Beauty Shop in 2005.
Cube will also produce the third Barbershop alongside Matt Alvarez, Bob Teitel and George Tillman Jr. Thus far, the Barbershop films have produced $140 million in worldwide at the box office.

Barbershop 2: Back in Business hit theaters February 2004, and ten years later Ice Cube is desperately in need of a trim. According to Deadline, the Ride Along actor is currently in discussions with MGM to produce and star in a third Barbershop movie. It almost goes without saying that Barbershop 3 will have Ice Cube passing the shop onto his offspring, but who or what will be the third film's villain? The Barbershop series has already taken on and defeated loan sharks and gentrification. Maybe Barbership 3 can address all those tiny sharp hairs that catch in your collar for the rest of the day. Why aren't more threequels tackling this very real problem?...

It’s movies like this one that make me despair. Because it is going to make a bazillion bucks at the box office around the world -- the three previous flicks in the series have grossed close to $2 billion -- and there’s absolute nothing here that warrants such success. Unless one considers its dubious “quality” of lowest-common-denominator-ness a smart business move: the Ice Age movies have always been just bland enough and just colorful enough and just simplistic enough to be just passably tolerable enough to viewers across global cultures. It’s hard to imagine that anyone actually has fond memories of those films -- or even any notable memories at all. They’re nothing more than forgettable time-wasters that are just inoffensive enough to not keep audiences away. I find that kind of inoffensiveness offensive, though. Alas for me, the object lesson that those three earlier films taught...

Rachel McAdams, Channing Tatum, The Vow According to Box Office Mojo, February 2012 was the best month of February in terms of movie attendance since 2004. On North American screens in February '04 were Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, the Ben Stiller / Jennifer Aniston comedy Along Came Polly, the Adam Sandler / Drew Barrymore romantic comedy 50 First Dates, and the Ice Cube vehicle Barbershop 2: Back in Business. February 2012's high grosses were basically a result of the success of only three movies: the Rachel McAdams / Channing Tatum romantic drama The Vow, the Ryan Reynolds / Denzel Washington actioner Safe House, and the Josh Hutcherson / Vanessa Hudgens / Dwayne Johnson adventure Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. The first two have grossed more than $100m domestically; the third one has just surpassed the $80m mark. Providing some assistance were the surprise minor hit Chronicle and Daniel Radcliffe's first post-Harry Potter movie, The Woman in Black.

It's possible that a young actress like Keke Palmer could be upstaged by her "Joyful Noise" costars Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton, but that's not the case with Keke Palmer. Palmer's powerful pipes will win over audiences just as her "Noise" character, Olivia, makes Randy (Jeremy Jordan, sporting some equally impressive lungs) swoon.

What She's Done: Palmer starred as spelling bee whiz Akeelah in "Akeelah and the Bee" alongside Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett, a double-dutch queen in the Disney TV movie "Jump In!" and a boundary-breaking football player in Fred Durst's film "The Longshots" with Ice Cube.
What She's Doing Now: Palmer plays Olivia, a young singer in a small town in Georgia; her mom Vi (Queen Latifah) is the director of the church choir, and she's got some old-fashioned ideas about how a choir should sound -- and who her daughter should date.

Tom Cruise, in other words, is getting into the spin-off game.
So even though we're a week late in finishing this list inspired by "Get Him to the Greek" (more on that film in a bit), it's still plenty timely, and will continue to be as long as Hollywood exploits successful properties even after their original stars have moved on. Here's the elite company Mr. Grossman will be joining:
"Evan Almighty" (2007)
Original movie: "Bruce Almighty" (2003)
Spin-off character: Evan Baxter (Steve Carell)
When a spin-off brings along two original characters and the actors that played them -- in this case,...

Today Universal released Get Him to the Greek, a sort-of sequel to 2008's Forgetting Sarah Marshall as it uses Aldous Snow who had a small role in the original. Beyond that, there is only a brief reference to Sarah Marshall, which has me thinking it's not really a sequel as much as it is a spin-off. E-v-e, let’s, let’s get it! And I’m not talking about that chick with the apple, or the scented system for when you’re just not feeling that fresh. And here she is on my Glee playing a principal of a ghetto school populated by bad kids. Do I have something to be thankful for? Now I do, gurrrl. Tonight’s episode is all about that perennial favorite of fags everywhere, and something I requested in last week’s Glee-cap (am I insightful, psychic, or secretly writing for the show?) It’s what transforms Pretty Woman into something bearable, it’s the linchpin in tedious reality programs like What Not to Wear, and it’s what made watching...
