Chris Evans is off the market. On Sept. 10, People reported that Evans married girlfriend and fellow actor Alba Baptista in a Cape Cod ceremony. And at New York Comic-Con on Oct. 14, Evans opened up about their marriage for the first time. He revealed that they actually had two weddings - one in Cape Cod, and one in Portugal - and said, "It's a lot planning a wedding. For those of you who are married you know it takes a lot out of you," per People.
He continued, "But now that we're through that, we've just been enjoying life, gearing up for autumn, my favorite season. Now we're just relaxing and enjoying life and reflecting."
But the 42-year-old actor - who was crowned People's Sexiest Man Alive last year - has a long history of dating fellow stars that goes back to 2001, when he and Jessica Biel became a couple. The...

When it comes to big-budget productions made in Hong Kong, few could hold a candle to director Benny Chan whose resume includes such titles like “Rob-b-Hood”, “New Police Story” and “Raging Fire”, his last work before his death. As he was approached to do a remake of David R. Ellis' action-thriller “Cellular”, Chan did not have to think twice about the proposition since it gave him the chance to put the original premise within the Hong Kong culture, and therefore making his version much more than a mere copy as you might assume as first glance. “Connected”, which is currently streaming on Netflix, includes the ingredients typical for the kind of action thriller Chan is known for, as well as some impressive stunt work and great performances, especially leading man Louis Koo playing an unlikely hero.

HBO Max may (hopefully) be done randomly pulling original series from the service, but there are still a number of TV shows and films due to leave HBO Max in January as part of the regularly scheduled shuffling.
Multiple seasons of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” will leave HBO Max on Jan. 3, so get those final binge-watches in Asap. And the beloved WB series “Everwood” is due to depart on Jan. 21 if you feel like seeing what young Chris Pratt was up to in the early 2000s.
In terms of movies leaving HBO Max, there are quite a lot. “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” turns into a ghost on Jan. 20, while Jon M. Chu’s delightful musical “In the Heights” leaves on Jan. 27.
Noteworthy films leaving HBO Max on Jan. 31 include the first three “John Wick” movies, the first three “Jurassic Park” films, the first two installments in the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Law & Order: Svu Season 23 finale “A Final Call at Forlini’s Bar.”] Law & Order: Svu bookends its Season 23 finale with conversations that directly address Captain Olivia Benson’s (Mariska Hargitay) personal life, specifically her relationship with her former partner, Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) — and something that is very unresolved with Rafael Barba (Raúl Esparza). The episode began with Benson in a session with her therapist, Dr. Lindstrom (Bill Irwin), who brought up her coworkers’ stable relationships and her lack of one. “I think you and Elliot either need to see whether there’s more there or move on,” he told her. “This idealized relationship is hanging over you, prevents you from true intimacy, Olivia, either with him or with anyone else.” And while there have been hints that Benson and Stabler could cross that line over the years and especially since he reappeared in her life with the ...

There’s no denying that Jason Statham has found a very comfortable niche for himself in Hollywood, and the mere presence of his name in any movie is often enough to let audiences know exactly what they’re going to get. That’s hardly a bad thing, though, because he’s been established as one of cinema’s premiere action heroes for close to 20 years now, even if there is a sense of over-familiarity running through his work.
If you can’t remember the monikers of his specific projects, then it becomes increasingly difficult to pick them out of a lineup. Ask someone to guess the Jason Statham action thriller you’re thinking of with either a one-word title, or two words but one of them has to be ‘the’, where he plays a no-nonsense badass with either a military or law enforcement background who gets pulled back into the...

Directed by Cc Wade and co-written by Wade and Marshall’s brother Jack, the clip features Marshall waking up on a bench in his childhood home of Peckham, South London. He walks through a park, encountering strange figures running from a wild, terrorizing beast. The twist? The beast is Marshall himself.
“I woke up, Peckham Rye/At half five,” Marshall sings across an eerie bass line.

Larry Cohen, a revered figure in the horror genre best known for directing such films as “It’s Alive,” “Gold Told Me To,” and “The Stuff,” has died at 77. The filmmaker began his decades-spanning career by writing for television in the 1960s, penning more than 100 episodes of crime and detective series like “The Fugitive” and “The Defenders” before helming his first feature, “Bone,” in 1972.
He jumped between horror, science fiction, and even blaxploitation over the next 30 years and 20 features before stepping behind the camera for the final time with, fittingly enough, an episode of “Masters of Horror.”
Cohen continued as a screenwriter after helming his last feature, 1996’s “Original Gangstas,” including “Phone Booth,” “Cellular,” and “Captivity.” He also wrote the script for 1988’s cult classic “Maniac Cop” and two of its sequels as well as episodes of “Columbo” and “NYPD Blue,” among many others.

Netflix recently revealed which films would be coming to their library to ring in the New Year, and they’re looking like a great collection for horror fans. Hailing from 2001-2004, you can now stream Jason X, Ghost Ship, Eight Legged Freaks, Gothika, Cellular and The Butterfly Effect. Of course, none of these are stone cold classics, but they’re all worthwhile watches if you can put up with a bit of wonky early noughties CGI and occasionally very hammy acting.
My pick of these would be time travel/parallel universe caper The Butterfly Effect. Sure, Ashton Kutcher might be a bit wooden in it, but I’ve always enjoyed watching him gradually screw up his life more and more with each change he makes to the timeline. I also still find the overblown scene where he wakes up to realize he’s got no arms pretty funny, if only...

J.J. Abrams seems to have his fingers in just about everything nowadays, and here's one more thing you can add to that ever-growing list. Abrams is collaborating with B-movie icon Larry Cohen, director of It’s Alive and The Stuff. Together they are developing a fun sounding anthology series.
Cohen has written titles such as Phone Booth, Cellular, and Captivity. But, it’s Cohen’s unique horror B-movies that have the most passionate followers, Abrams being one of them.
During an interview with BrokeHorrorFan, Cohen revealed he’s finished writing a cable series for Abrams and Bad Robot:

Horror Channel FrightFest takes place in London this weekend. Here's our pick of films to look out for...
Summer’s almost over and what better way to welcome in the spooky season than by hiding from the heat in a darkened room, with five days of wall-to-wall horror? Yep, it’s August Bank Holiday and that means the 18th annual London Horror Channel FrightFest is upon us. For some, this is a familiar pilgrimage. Veterans will be used to bloodshot eyes, numbness in the spine, a lack of nutrition and an acute anxiousness every time there’s a loud noise. For others, it may be their first visit and these are things to look forward to. Either way, FrightFest promises probably the biggest, purest, uncut dose of horror you can endure without going insane, complete with special guests, world premieres, live events and at least a couple of parties.

It’s been 10 years since Neveldine/Taylor’s Crank was released. We look back at what might be Jason Statham’s best film...
Whenever we interview anyone for Den of Geek, we try to throw in a curveball of a final question by asking them, “What’s your favourite Jason Statham movie?” Obviously, there are plenty to choose from, but to date, the most common answer is Crank. Simon Pegg loves it. James McAvoy loves it. Rupert Grint loves it. The list goes on, and for good reason: it’s bonkers, and brilliant, and almost completely unique.
The contrivance that kickstarts Crank’s action is a great one: hitman Chev Chelios (The Statham, naturally) has been poisoned by a rival gangster, injected with a synthetic compound that blocks his adrenaline receptors. To stay alive, he’ll need to jack himself up with as many stimulants as possible.

Jason Statham is one of the more consistent and prolific action stars working in Hollywood today, with many entries in the genre under his belt. As such, it makes sense that he's now been cast to play the lead in a Hong Kong action movie, written by Kurt Wimmer, which is as yet untitled.
Hong Kong action movies tend to be quite stunt-intensive, with a general inclination to do things practically (though to a lesser extent in recent years). Jason Statham is a very logical choice for this kind of filmmaking, since he has Mixed Martial Arts training, and a lot of action experience, preferring to do as many stunts as possible himself. Obviously, some are going to be too difficult or too dangerous for the star to do them all himself, so he's worked with numerous stuntmen over his career, who he has tremendous respect for.

Since his debut in Guy Ritchie’s 1998 film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, actor Jason Statham has emerged in the past few years as one of the leading action heroes currently working, with his popularity being proven by the fact that the Transporter series, which he headlined for the first three films, has gone on to a tv show adaptation and will be rebooted in theatres next weekend with The Transporter Refueled. That’s not the only action franchise Statham has headlined, however, as he has also been the leading man in the Crank films and been a part of the Expendables franchise and, more recently, the Fast and Furious franchise.
Action heroes often have to throw lots of punches onscreen, and Statham has been no exception in this regard. Now the youtube channel Burger Fiction has put together a compilation of the numerous punches Statham has thrown onscreen...

Last week, it was leaked and subsequently confirmed that Jason Statham was in deep negotiations to play the villain Bullseye on the upcoming season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix. This news was probably the greatest moment of my whole life. Then not even 48 hours later, the talks broke down for whatever mystical Hollywood reason. Statham would not be playing the iconic villain of Bullseye, which was probably the saddest moment of my whole life, because we missed out on an opportunity to watch Statham be an action villain again.
The only thing better than Action Hero Jason Statham is Action Villain Jason Statham, and that’s a side of him that only 2 films have explored to date with 11 years between the two. We could have gotten up to Thirteen Whole Hours of Action Villain Jason Statham, and even more so on a show that had surprisingly great and excitingly choreographed action scenes.

“Ride or die.” Those words only appear a few times in the franchise – most famously out of Vin Diesel’s gravelly baritone in Fast & Furious 6 – but they have become the personal motto for how this franchise has continued, grown, succeeded and become greater with each film. Today, Furious 7, the latest in the series will be released, and it’s a mark of achievement not only that they’ve made it to seven films, but that it only feels exciting for a seventh film about criminals racing cars to be released. The Fast and the Furious franchise is unlike any franchise out there right now, as it has evolved from perfectly adequate popcorn films about criminals racing cars to superb and exhilarating blockbuster action films. No other franchise can say that they only began to hit their creative stride with the fifth film. To understand how we arrived at this point though,...

Larry Cohen hasn’t directed a film since 1996 (Original Gangstas), but he’s stayed busy as a writer with thrillers like Phone Booth, Best Seller and Cellular. It’s a bit of a shame as the man’s directorial touch is usually a guarantee that a movie is going to be a fun ride — think It’s Alive, The Stuff, The Ambulance — and one of his best is 1982’s flying monster movie, Q the Winged Serpent. Scream Factory released the film to Blu-ray in 2013 complete with a new commentary track from Cohen, and we decided it was time to give it a spin. It was a smart decision as the track is a fun, informative and occasionally surprising listen. Keep reading to see what I heard on the commentary track for Q the Winged Serpent. Q the Winged Serpent (1982) Commentator: Larry Cohen (writer/director) 1. They had an early preview of the film prior to distribution, and...

Yesterday was the Super Bowl, that annual sporting event designed for superheroes to make friendly wagers between themselves for charity, and for the showcasing of movie trailers.
One of the very best of this year's crop of trailers (taking the top spot of the Super Bowl spots) was the action-packed trailer for Furious 7, the latest instalment in the Fast and Furious franchise.
Vin Diesel's voice-over informs us that "The most important thing in life will always be family" (which is totally what his vocabulary-limited character Groot was saying, albeit more concisely, at a certain moment in Guardians of the Galaxy). Of course, as the montage shows, he's talking about found family, a group of people who care deeply for each other, despite often not being related. This could also be a thematic statement about the emotional core of the franchise, which has arguably endured so long because the audience cares about the characters,...

After last week’s news about Netflix securing The Blacklist for a record fee, a similar story came to light this week concerning the pre Batman prequel series Gotham. Now rather than getting it day and date after Us broadcast as per Breaking Bad and From Dusk Till Dawn, Gotham’s entire run will just arrive on Netflix after it’s finished its TV broadcast. Worse news is that this means you have to wait for Channel 5 to get their finger out and schedule it on one of their three channels and then muck it around the schedule just to confuse you further and for it to finish its run there. Kind of takes the wind out the sails doesn’t it? I wouldn’t expect to see Gotham on Netflix until this time next year at best but we will see.

How do you rank perfection? Duncan has a go, as he lists the top 25 Jason Statham films...
For regular Den Of Geek readers, it will come as little surprise to see this list come round. We've chosen our favourite Statham films before, but such is the productivity of the great man, it was decided that a mere top ten was no longer large enough to contain his ever growing body of work. Last time I mentioned updating this piece to the man himself back in 2012 due to his insane workload, he cracked up and responded, “My productivity is overwhelming! 'Have a fucking day off!'”
Since this list has now expanded to encompass 25 of his movies, it seemed only right to include multiple sequels, with his big trio of action franchises all spawning some thoroughly entertaining fare worthy of mention, though I’ve tried to exclude the personal bias that...

In some ways, Chris Evans (Not Another Teen Movie) crossed a nerd picket-line. When he was cast as Captain America: The First Avenger, there was a small contingent of fans who would not let this stand. After all, it was years earlier when Evans was the Human Torch, in two Fantastic Four films that apparently Fox is trying to get you to forget. Now that there's The Fantastic Four coming next summer, there's a new Human Torch, and Evans has well-wishes for Michael B. Jordan (All My Children). Speaking to the New York Daily News while promoting Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Evans (Cellular) discussed how psyched he was to see Jordan's version of the character. In nerd-speak, yes, he gave his blessings. "It's so funny, you almost feel precious over the role that you don't want someone else to do it. But when you hear someone phenomenal is doing...

Not much to speak of in the pre-amble this week except that From Dusk Till Dawn episode 2 on Netflix continued in fine form and presented an interesting and somewhat unique version of a vampire which was actually quite scary. If you have written this off because it sounds cheap and forced (admittedly on paper it does) I urge you to give it a watch, the dialogue alone is better than most TV shows, “Got your balls on?” is a great line I will repeat ad nauseam henceforth.

Stallone and De Niro come face to face (again) in Grudge Match. Here's our review...
When Rocky Balboa hit cinema screens back in 2006, there was an incredible amount of cynicism attached to Sylvester Stallone’s return to the cinematic franchise that catapulted his career to super stardom. For many there was easy mileage in making jokes about Stallone’s advancing age, or in accusing him of cashing in on an old brand in a desperate attempt to have one final box office hit, yet his love of the character and the sheer determination to write and direct a glorious last hurrah for the beloved Balboa (well, apart from the upcoming TV series Creed) worked and worked well.
Frighteningly, it’s now been eight years since Sly’s last big screen boxing opus, but he’s proved that punching the living daylights out of things...

We head back a decade to look at a few films that deserve more attention. Here’s our list of 25 underappreciated movies of 2004...
Think back to 2004, and you might dredge up hazy memories of the computer-generated fairytale sequel Shrek 2, Alfonso’s Harry Potter installment, The Prisoner Of Azkaban, or maybe Mel Gibson’s phenomenally successful Passion Of The Christ.
It’s rather less likely that you’ll remember some of the films on this list. You’re probably aware of the drill by now: we’ve gone back into our distant, beer-addled memories to find 25 of the less commonly-lauded movies from the year 2004.
Some of them did reasonably well at the time, but appear to have been forgotten since (especially the one eclipsed by its own internet meme), while others were coolly received by the public or critics (and sometimes...

Jason Statham. Since the dawn of Den Of Geek, he has been our muse. Our mayor. Our driving force. So much so, that we ask lots of people that we meet just what their favourite Statham movie is (including the man himself). Here, we've gathered together lots of the responses we've had in one document.
And so here it is:
Jason Segel: "I guess it would have to be… oh man, there are so many. I’m going to go with The Transporter!"
Seth Rogen: "Crank. And then Crank 2."
Evan Goldberg: "It was him in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, right? That’s the best one."
Alice Lowe: "I've never seen any of his films..... Oh I did!

Brad Anderson's rollercoaster ride is a lean, taut, brilliant B-movie
The Call is a welcome little late summer treat, a juiced-up B-movie kidnap thriller from regular Fringe director Brad Anderson, admirably succinct at 87 minutes, constructed around the conversations between an abducted girl (Abigail Breslin) and the responder (Halle Berry), who picks up when the girl calls 911 from the trunk of the kidnapper's car. It's a machine designed to thrill, please and satisfy; a one-sentence pitch – 911 responder breaks rule No 1, and gets emotionally involved – deftly realised, manipulative and clever enough to be irresistible. Add an ending that's midnight-black, morally, yet somehow just right, and it's the kind of throwaway thriller that could only be improved by seeing it in a nighttime drive-in with a date, some reefer and a fifth of Old Harper. Pure guilty pleasure.
The set-up is simple. Six months earlier, Berry botches a 911 call – promises her first abductee she'll get her home,...

254: The number of combined victims of "Redemption" star Jason Statham ass-kickings over his film career, as we've tallied and created visual representation for exclusively here on NextMovie.
Brief Faq:
What constitutes an 'ass-kicking'? Glad you asked. It ranges from as harmless as "incapacitating a bad guy to question him" to as devastating as "stabbing a bad guy in the neck." (Stabbings were deemed allowable because Statham is usually doing something cool with his knives, like throwing them or spinning them in his hand for no reason.)
Do guns count? Of course not.

Justin Lin may strike some as out of place in the pantheon of contemporary auteurs. The Taiwanese-born American filmmaker, best known for having directed Fast Five and its sequel, Fast & Furious 6, makes unabashedly populist blockbusters for mainstream audiences—hardly the purview of a "serious" artist. His films, wafer thin in narrative and thematic conception, concern themselves principally with street racing and bank heists. His camera, more functional than expressive, remains trained on glistening bodies and the expensive cars they drive, his highest aspirations clarity and expediency. And the dialogue, scripted now three times by Cellular's Chris Morgan, is deli...

Why David Ellis? Hmad midnight screening programmer Brian Collins explains:
His movies were hit or miss, but I loved that David Ellis was one of the few non-pretentious big-screen directors out there, making fun genre flicks and having a good sense of humor about himself and his movies (he wanted Shark Night to go out under its original title: Untitled 3D Shark Thriller). Director David R. Ellis, of Snakes On A Plane fame, died in March 2013. Sarah remembers why his films were kind of great…
Just a quick update here: we've looked back at Snakes On A Plane, Ellis' highest profile film, in more detail here.
Usually, if a film isn’t screened for critics ahead of its release, it’s for a good reason. It’s because it’s terrible. But back in 2006, when Snakes On A Plane wasn’t shown to the press, it wasn’t because it was bad. It was because it didn’t matter. Nothing any critic said about Snakes On A Plane would affect whether the public went to see it or not. They’d already made up their minds for themselves, based solely on its wonderful title.

Halle Berry plays an Lapd 911 operator out to save a grown-up Abigail Breslin from a murderer in the new trailer for The Call.
In her latest movie, Halle Berry gets the call to be a hero, but how believable is it that a 911 operator actually gets involved in finding the kidnapper of a young girl? HIghly unlikely, but it is a movie and we have to suspend belief that Halle Berry's character will do what the Lapd is incapable of doing. The Call also rings eerily familiar to another film, Cellular (2004), starring newcomer Chris Evans as a man out to save a woman (Kim Basinger) from Jason Statham after receiving an emergency call alerting him of her kidnapping.

The trailer for the Brad Anderson-directed thriller The Call, formerly known as The Hive, premiered today and we have it waiting for you inside.
Anderson previously helmed Session 9 and The Machinist and, here, it looks like he's delving into Larry Cohen territory when Cohen was doing thrillers like Phone Booth and Cellular.
The Call concerns Emergency Call Center Operator Jordan (Halle Berry) who takes, well, a call from Casey (Abigail Breslin) a teenage girl who has been abducted and carried away in the trunk of a car. The kidnapping plays out in real time as Jordan and Casey work together to track down the killer.

Former stuntman and director of Snakes on a Plane
The brazenly trashy, cheap-and-cheerful B-movie is more or less defunct in modern cinema. One of its few authentic latter-day practitioners was the film-maker David R Ellis, who has been found dead at the age of 60 in a hotel in South Africa, where he was preparing to make a live-action version of the violent anime Kite.
Ellis came to widespread attention in 2006 when he directed Snakes on a Plane, the exploitation action thriller with a title that doubled as its own synopsis. Samuel L Jackson played an FBI agent on board a flight packed with venomous snakes planted to kill the witness who is in his care. There have been dumber and more precarious murder plots in the movies, but not many.

His character, a cocky gambler named Johnny, is considered one of the film's leads and was originally offered to Johnny Depp. "I love how the first move uses VFX, not to make fake things look real, but to create a heightened world unburdened by the look and feel of reality," Gordon-Levitt said of the project. "Plus, nobody makes a badass like Mr. Rodriguez." Deadline also expects a few "tough guy actors" to be added shortly, with Josh Brolin considered one good possibility. As for Gordon-Levitt, the deal takes him out of the running for a few other roles he has been mulling over. One of those was the lead in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, which now has Jim Sturgess, Zachary Levi and John Krasinski among those left in contention. 2.) Speaking of Gordon-Levitt, he passed...
