Me and Earl and the Pixie Girl: Schreier Adapts Teen Schmaltz for Sophomore Effort
Director Jake Schreier takes on the saga of author John Green (the man responsible for 2014’s teen cancer tearjerker The Fault in Our Stars), adapting his novel Paper Towns for the big screen. Adolescent themes and returning cast mates from Josh Boone’s earlier film furthers a sort of genetic relationship between the two films, which manages to be another glossy yet glaringly inauthentic portrayal of precocious teens laying their cherished wastelands to rest as they ascend into the structured responsibility of adulthood. Fleeting moments of inspiration manage to recall, in a sort of unabashed nostalgic glee, the spontaneity behind moments managing to reach indelibly memorable heights from such an undeveloped period in lives of the generally privileged. However, Schreier, Green, and adapting screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber fail in their ability to realistically...

Actor Jamie Dornan is to play kinky billionaire Christian in the upcoming big screen take on salacious literary sensation Fifty Shades of Grey, according to Variety.
Dornan replaces Charlie Hunnam, who left the role earlier this month amid rumours that the Sons of Anarchy and Pacific Rim star had been spooked by overwhelming fan attention, or may have required more input into the script than producers were willing to grant. Studio Universal and director Sam Taylor-Johnson have been searching for a replacement ever since, with the project due for release in nine months time and shooting to start imminently.

Breaking: Carla Hacken is leaving her post as production president at New Regency. Hacken, the former ICM agent and longtime Fox 2000 executive vice president, just took the post last November as Arnon Milchan and CEO Brad Weston began to restructure the company to be a more filmmaker driven enterprise. Rumors began circulating in the last week that the fit with Hacken wasn’t a good one. This comes after Weston brought in vet Valerie Van Geldar to run marketing, installed Tim Clawson as New Regency’s Evp/Head of Physical Production, and Mandeville Films Svp David Manpearl came aboard as VP Production. Weston will now look for a production president to replace Hacken. The company has begun cranking out films, the first of which will be the Allen Hughes-directed Broken City with Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe, followed by the Brad Furman-directed Runner, Runner with Ben Affleck and...

2012 is poised to be a very big year for the movie industry. With several high profile ‘blockbusters’ set to release, many movie buffs are crossing their fingers that all of their anticipated films meet, or exceed, their expectations. The staff here at Tmp isn’t immune to these high expectations either, so we’ve come together to bring you our lists for the most anticipated of 2012.
While it’s no surprise that many of us here at Tmp don’t always agree on our films, I think I can safely say that there are two films that will be on all of our lists. So rather than have them keep popping up for all of us, I’m going to go ahead and knock them out right now: The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers.

With a bevy of potential blockbusters coming up in 2012, we here at Tmp wanted to take a moment to look back at the many movies released in 2011. There were several movies released this year that we didn’t see eye-to-eye on, so it was nigh impossible to come up with an overall ‘Best of’ list for Tmp that all of us could agree upon. So instead of trying, we’ve decided to break down our best (and worst) individually for you guys.
Admittedly...we're a little later with this article than we meant to be. With the site redesign taking precedence, we've had to put this on the back burner for a little bit.

Despite an off-color remark or two from host Ricky Gervais, Sunday's 69th annual Golden Globe Awards proved to be something unexpected - family friendly. Named best actress for the TV drama Homeland, Claire Danes said that when she won her first Globe, for 1994's My So-Called Life, she was only 15 - and was so overwhelmed that she forgot to thank her parents. She made up for that oversight on Sunday, and pointed out her mother, Carla, sitting in the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Danes also thanked her husband, Hugh Dancy, "who keeps me sane and happy." Throughout the evening,...

Haywire made its official debut at the AFI Fest this past week, unfortunately it was met with mixed reviews. Despite that Relativity will do all it can to make sure that Haywire gets the recongitition it deserves. So they released a new trailer via EW.com. Haywire stars Carla Carano, famed Mma fighter, as a CIA agent who is betrayed on a mission and forced to do freelance work. The supporting cast includes Michael Fassbender, who gets into quite a tussle with Carano in the beginning, as well as Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas and Bill Paxton.
After she is betrayed on a mission in Barcelona, freelancing covert operative Mallory Kane (Carano) is forced to protect her family and go after those who betrayed her. Haywire hits American theaters on January 20th, 2012.

Heywire is going to be one hell of a badass action film! Stephen Soderbergh currently has a couple films in the works, one of which is this Haywire movie that has an incredible cast of actors that includes Mma female fighter Gina Carano, Michael Fassbender, Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Bill Paxton, Michael Angarano, Matthieu Kassovitz and Antonio Banderas. This film is an Incredible looking adreniline spy espionage movie.
They opened up the panel with a trailer for the movie. I didn't really know what to expect, all we've had to go off of was the films story description, which I thought sounded pretty awesome. There's nothing like a good debate and discussion after watching a movie. And there are few things quite like Rich Pickings, too. Nick explains more...
One of the things I love most about film is that it's not always about film. That may sound a bit odd, but hear me out.
How many times have you watched something that has really made you think? You might not even realise it, but I bet it's happened a few times. The post-film discussions that veer off into many tangents, each related but separate from its original context. It could be as simple as "Wouldn't it be cool to have that super-power?" to as complex as "How does this change my point of view on something?"
Coupled to this is the fact that film is increasingly part of a larger event, partnered with other entertainments and activities. A prime example here is the success of Secret Cinema,...

Shanghai
Opens: 2010
Cast: John Cusack, Gong Li, Ken Watanabe, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chow Yun-Fat
Director: Mikael Hafstrom
Summary: In the months leading up to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, an American man arrives in Shanghai to find his friend recently murdered. In investigating his friend's death, he stumbles upon a secret the United States government has been keeping and falls in love in the process.
Analysis: After being granted permission to shoot in the Chinese city, the $10 million production found its permit quickly being revoked by the Government who expressed concerns about the script. The result is Bangkok and the United Kingdom standing in for the real Shanghai which seems kind of against the entire point.
Cusack himself has emphatically endorsed the project in interviews, calling it a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity", but being stuck at the cash-strapped Weinstein Company means that its release plans are unsure beyond a vague promise of a limited bow around Easter.

On Thursday December 17th, nominations were announced for the 16th annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards. Jason Reitman’s “Up in the Air” walked away with three nominations including best actor for George Clooney, and best supporting actress for Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick, both of whom sat down with MakingOf for an exclusive interview earlier this month.
“Precious: Based on the novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” and “Inglorious Basterds” also walked away with 3 nominations each.
Carey Mulligan received a best actress nomination for her performance in “An Education,” a role that she discusses in a recent interview with MakingOf. Adittionally, “An Education” was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, which could mean potential awards for seven cast members including Dominic Cooper and Alfred Molina, who talked with MakingOf at September’s Toronto International Film Festival

The morning the Screen Actors Guild announced the nominees for the 16th annual SAG awards. The actual ceremony will be held Saturday, January 23rd. There are a lot of gay-faves on the list of nominees.
For starters, Colin Firth picked up a nomination for A Single Man,and Sigourney Weaver is in the running for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries thanks to Prayers for Bobby.
Freshmen series Glee and Modern Family are competing against each other for Beest TV Comedy Ensemble.
And surprisingly (at least for me) the cast of True Blood is up for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
You can check out the full list of nominess after the break!
