Enjoyed all 22 minutes... short documentaries are too short!

-South Asian culture as it is perceived today by most South Asians is actually "for straights only". -I liked the suggestion that it was not always so in India.

-I'm glad I found this film. -This film is from the perspective of the sister of a gay man from India about South Asian gays and lesbians. -I've been unable to find others like it. -There is only one other film about South Asian gays and lesbians (of which I'm aware) and it is from the perspective of a South Asian gay man. I searched for "for straights only" on the web for other comments/reviews.

A look at attitudes toward gays in the East
Havan_IronOak2 March 2004
Although India has a rich history and mythology involving same sex relationships and some temples are adorned with hundreds of images of same sex couplings, modern India has neither word for nor acknowledgment of homosexual relations.

This film discusses the situation in general and the plight of Navarun Gupta in particular. Perhaps the highlight of this well made documentary for me is when Navarun shares his fantasy that one day his mother will approach him to discuss her arranging a match with some boy that she has found that she wants her son to meet.

It's also telling that when his sister starting educating her parents on gay issues in preparation for her brother's coming out, their first assumption was that she was lesbian.
