Not One Of Edgar's Better Shorts
boblipton23 October 2019
Mother-in-law Dot Farley and brother-in-law Jack Rice show up with a ouija board. Edgar scoffs, and devises a plan to fool them by pretending to be a spirit guide. However, they're one step ahead of him, and he's fouled up his preparations in this below-par entry in Edgar Kennedy's long-running RKO short comedy series, THE COMMON MAN.

Part of the problem is the set-up. Typically Edgar gets in trouble by attempting some useful do-it-yourself project, or the sheer malevolence of the in-laws. Here, he's the cause of his own undoing. In addition, Irene Ryan plays his wife in this one. She was a fine comedienne, but she offers little but the occasional "Oh, Edgar!" to add to the fun.
