Not long after Brittany Maynard found out she was terminally ill last January, her mother wrote her a letter. "I told her, 'I will not let this turn me into a bitter old woman,' " Debbie Ziegler tells People in an exclusive interview. "It was the first time in writing that I basically acknowledged to her that I knew what was going to happen and I was going to make her proud," says Ziegler, 56, of Carlsbad, California. "She called me and said, 'Mom, I'm crying,' " says Ziegler. "I said, 'I'm sorry. I didn't want to make you cry.' She said,...

A Vatican official is condemning Brittany Maynard, the terminally ill woman who ended her own life Saturday. Speaking to the Italian news agency Ansa on Tuesday, Monsignor Ignacio Carrasco de Paula called Maynard's assisted suicide "an absurdity." "This woman [took her own life] thinking she would die with dignity, but this is the error," the president of the Pontifical Academy for Life said, according to a translation by Reuters. "Suicide is not a good thing. It is a bad thing because it is saying no to life and to everything it means with respect to our mission in the world and toward those around us.

She’s been an outspoken proponent in the right-to-die movement and sadly on Saturday(November 1) Brittany Maynard took a lethal dose of medication and died.
The 29-year-old woman left a message that said, "It is people who pause to appreciate life and give thanks who are the happiest. If we change our thoughts, we change our world! Love and peace to you all."
Barbara Coombs Lee, the president of Compassion and Choices, stated, “Brittany has died, but her love of life and nature, her passion and spirit endure. In Brittany’s memory, do what matters most. And tell those you love how much they matter to you. We will work to carry on her legacy of bringing end-of-life choice to all Americans.”

Amid the rumors surrounding Beyonce’s pregnancy, Savannah Guthrie asked the singer point-blank on ‘Today’ if she was with child. While Bey didn’t deny the reports upfront, she’s been on a social media mission to prove she’s not expecting!
After several reports surfaced that Beyonce is expecting her second child, the Love on Top singer has been sending signs that she’s not pregnant — but hasn’t confronted the rumors head-on. Even when Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie asked Beyonce if she was expecting, she didn’t give a clear answer!
Beyonce Doesn’t Confirm Or Deny Pregnancy Rumors
When Savannah Guthrie sat down with Beyonce, the mom to Blue Ivy Carter, 14 months, brushed off the question with a joking response.
“I would be remiss if I didn’t give you a chance to dispel any rumors if you were expecting,” Savannah asked the R&B superstar.

Remember last summer when ABC aired the Kelly Clarkson-fronted reality competition Duets? [Cue sound of crickets chirping.] No? Well, the part of me that watches too much reality TV (aka my heart, soul, brain and spleen) likes to think the producers of NBC’s The Voice paid secret homage to their fallen rival during the Season 4 Top 8 results telecast.

Kim K has used her pregnancy to take more fashion risks — but her maternity outfits aren’t always flattering to her growing frame! Check out our gallery of Kim’s wildest maternity looks.
While most pregnant women hide their shape behind oversized clothing in bland colors, Kim Kardashian has used her pregnancy as a chance to take risks with her clothing — but her maternity wardrobe isn’t always the most flattering.
Kim Wears Feathered Dress To Topshop Opening
When Kim and her boyfriend Kanye West attended the Topshop La opening on Feb. 13, she donned a Prabal Gurung black dress paired with leather leggings.
But the empire waist accentuated her growing frame, especially with the feathers starting right under the bust. The top sheer embroidered bodice was also unflattering for her bust, especially since Kim’s cup size keeps growing with her pregnancy.

Tuesday's America's Got Talent's featured some of the most notable acts from the show's Top 48, including the Judges' Choices. But with only four acts continuing on, there is some stiff competition as the contestants head into Wednesday's results show.
While Eric Dittelman may have stunned us all when he read the mind of judge Howie Mandel, there were two acts which undeniably stole the show — for better or for worse.
Best performance of the night: William Close
Playing what he claims to be the world's largest stringed instrument, a self-made "Earth Harp," Close plucked away on the massive strings, creating a hauntingly beautiful rendition of The Who's "Love, Reign o'er Me."

I've sailed through the eleventh season of American Idol and the second season of The Voice like a damn trooper. I've skewered them both for your entertainment. But now the time has come to pick the better show, and I'm using seven categories of criteria to reach a verdict. Idol is better in some regards while The Voice wins in others, but the overall results are in! Dim the lights and let's crown one singing competition king. We'll start the showdown with my favorite category: hosting.
1. Hosting: Carson Daly vs. Ryan Seacrest
Is there a reason why the hosts on talent competitions aren't discussed more? Frankly, they're the most critical element of the proceedings. Both The Voice and American Idol are uncontrolled blitzes of power ballads, lighting cues, and talky interludes, and it takes the finesse of a killer emcee to rein it all in. And if we're being honest,...

Dubious claims dropped faster and more frequently during American Idol‘s Top 6 performance show than J.Lo’s legendary backside in her latest music video. Phillip Phillips kidded that the U.S. government is running tests to make Jessica Sanchez’s voice even more poweful. Skylar is a “thick-boned” girl, noted Hollie (who’s been in this country — and in front of the Idol judges — long enough that she really ought to know the term “thick-skinned.”) And Randy Jackson claimed to have invented the word “ginormous“ right there at the judges’ table. (I know I’ve been suggesting for years...

It’s Paula Abdul’s worst nightmare. No, CBS isn’t forcing the “Vibeology” singer to quit The X Factor in order to produce a second season of Live to Dance (bet you already forgot about that one, didn’t you?), but rather, two of the three acts in her “Groups” category got eliminated during the first two results-show telecasts of her new Fox series. Will Paula’s mentoring role rush (rush) into oblivion with the ousting of Lakoda Rayne this coming Thursday, or will one of her fellow panelists feel the sting of America’s voting rebuke? Only time will tell.

So its official, The Hobbit has commenced filming, with the new cast confirmed and many of the original due to feature through cameos. Despite production issues that threatened to end the movie before it had even begun, The Hobbit has finally been given the go-ahead.
In fact, so keen was the New Zealand government to entice the crew back, that they changed employment laws and gave millions of dollars in tax-breaks to accommodate filming on their shores and end the hold-up created by a union boycott. In fact, so keen was the New Zealand government to entice the crew back, that they changed employment laws and gave millions of dollars in tax-breaks to accommodate filming on their shores and end the hold-up created by a union boycott. One of our favorite mantras around the AfterElton offices is “because visibility matters.” Indeed, the idea that gay and bisexual men need to be visible, both to ourselves and to the wider culture, is one of the principle reasons AfterElton.com even exists. After all, it is only by being visible to family, friends and the world that we’ve been able to overcome the stereotypes and bigotry used to justify discrimination against the Glbt community.
That quest for visibility explains why we have done so many polls including the AfterElton Hot 100, the Fifty Greatest Gay Movies, the Top 50 Gay TV Characters, and the 50 Best Gay Books. After all, it’s not as if Entertainment Weekly is going to ask gay and bisexual men which guys we think are the hottest, which movies mean the most to us or, in the case of our latest poll, which celebrities we most admire.

Have a couple hot nights on the town when the Cinekink Film Festival shakes its groove thing on March 1-6 in NYC. With the exception of the opening and closing night galas, the fest will turn the venerable Anthology Film Archives into a red light district with sexy feature films, documentaries, shorts and more.
The feature films screening tell wicked tales of telepathic peeping toms (Sexual Radar), swingers (Open Invitation) and naive hedonists (Caged). Meanwhile, the documentaries chronicle the history of gay leather (Kink Crusaders) and porn addiction (Run, Run, It’s Him). And there’s all kinds of naughty offerings hidden in the short film collections.
While Cinekink is traditionally all about sex, the main film Bad Lit wants to recommend is all about not getting in: Robert G. Putka‘s hilarious and discomforting Hooka Face and the Virgin Boy. The fest also includes new short films by Bad...

The film's leading lady, Kristen Stewart, also won favorite actress. In an actual shocking turn of events, "Charlie St. Cloud's" Zac Efron was voted favorite movie star under 25, beating Stewart and the sparkling vampire himself, Rob Pattinson.
Adam Sandler and his black eye also cleaned up rather nicely, winning favorite comedic star for "Grown Ups," which won favorite comedy.
"House" was the big winner on the TV side of things, picking up favorite drama, favorite drama actor (Hugh Laurie) and favorite drama actress (Lisa Edelstein). "Glee" won favorite comedy and Jane Lynch was voted favorite comedy actress for her turn as Sue Sylvester.

Our members might be predominantly gay and bisexual men, but we do have a surprising number of female readers here at AfterElton.com. We value you ladies and feel bad that every year we have to ask you to sit out the Hot 100 voting (for that list we wanted a fair representation of whom gay and bi men find attractive).
To try and make up for it, every year we run a special poll exclusively our female readers, in which we ask them which gay/bi men they find hot.
This year over 12,000 votes were cast for over 600 different nominees. The top fifty appear here.
Without further ado... The 2010 Ladies' Choice Hot 50!
1. Adam Lambert

Up-and-coming indie director Marc Webb has officially signed on to helm Sony’s proposed reboot of the Spider-Man series, following previous director Sam Raimi’s departure from the hit franchise.
Webb is best known for last year’s breakout Sundance hit, (500) Days Of Summer and countless music videos and commercials. This would be his first film with a major studio, and coming fresh off the unique visual touches of Summer, the movie world is now curious to see what he can bring to the ongoing story of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
The Sam Raimi-led Spider-Man trilogy, beginning in 2002 and running through 2007’s third installment, was one of the highest-grossing and most profitable film franchises in history, setting countless records and helping to keep the box office strong in a particularly trying period for the industry.

Paramount and Scott Rudin are teaming together for a new Christmas comedy that will feature battling Santas. Mike White set to write the script for the film as well.
The comedy is based on the true story of rival factions that developed within a union of professional Santa Clauses who became arch enemies during a Santa Claus civil war. Rudin will produce along with Mike White and his Rip Cord Prods. Rudin and White worked together previously on School of Rock and Orange County.
I am sort of Jack Black fan and could totally see him in this movie and what would be funny is to have Seth Rogen in the other faction and they are both the rivals.
I love Christmas movies as an Fyi, so I am somewhat excited to see this film and hear more about it as it gets developed. Lastly, I am kind of miffed...
