The family of Jansen Panettiere confirmed to ABC News that the 28-year-old actor’s sudden passing was due to “cardiomegaly (enlarged heart), coupled with aortic valve complications.”
Jansen, the brother of actress Hayden Panettiere, died over President’s Day weekend in New York.
“Jansen’s heart could be seen in his eyes, and his charm in his brilliant, engaging smile; his soul in his masterful and revealing paintings, and the joy of life in his dry wit. His charisma, warmth, compassion for others, and his creative spirit will live forever in our hearts and in the hearts of all whom he encountered,” the family’s statement continued. “We sincerely appreciate the outpouring of love and support towards our family as we navigate this unthinkable loss, and ask that we be gifted our privacy during this time of mourning. We love you so much Jansen and you will be in our hearts forever.

Ernie Lively, the actor who appeared in beloved movies “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” and “Turner & Hooch,” has died. He was 74.
A representative for Lively confirmed his death to Variety.
In the two “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” movies, which came out in 2005 and 2008, Lively portrayed the father of Bridget, played by his real-life daughter, Blake Lively. The “Gossip Girl” star wasn’t the only one to be inspired by her father’s career. His other children — Jason, Eric, Robyn and Lori — built careers in film in television as well. Mentorship was a big part of Lively’s life. From the late ’80s through most of the ’90s, he coached Hollywood’s young working actors, such as Brittany Murphy, Casper Van Dien and Jason Priestley.

Wes Anderson's new film features a blizzard of star cameos, but one character is present throughout - the lobby boy played by Tony Revolori. He talks about getting threats from Bill Murray and reveals his grand ambitions
For Tony Revolori, the scariest moment of making The Grand Budapest Hotel was meeting Bill Murray, not least because the actor was threatening to throw his dad in the hotel's swimming pool. "He was like, 'I've thrown parents in the pool before, don't make me throw you,'" says Tony, adopting a hangdog look and mimicking Murray in the lowest, most droll voice possible. He wasn't joking: according to Revolori, Murray gave a stage parent an unwanted dip on the set of Wes Anderson's previous film, Moonrise Kingdom. Thankfully for Revolori's dad, the former Ghostbuster went up to him after the wrap and said, "Actually, I've decided you're Ok. I won't...

Nearly 10 years ago the world was introduced to a stately San Di-ago news anchor who prefers the aroma of rich mahogany and has a healthy taste for scotch (scotchy scotch scotch). Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy was released on July 9, 2004, proving that Saturday Night Live alum Will Ferrell could carry a movie, and modern moviegoers enjoy fight sequences that reference West Side Story.
The film largely introduced audiences to Steve Carell, arriving just before NBC’s The Office, and featured an entire subplot starring Maya Rudolph that never made it to the big screen. With the sequel currently in theaters–and promising cameos from the likes of Drake and Kanye West–we felt it was only right to look back on how far the core cast has come, as well as the film’s overall influence on pop culture to date. You know what that means…

San Francisco Giants pitcher, the 22nd man to toss a perfect game, got us thinking about musical perfectos.

On Wednesday night, San Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain made baseball history — and totally helped my fantasy team — by tossing a perfect game against the Houston Astros. For those who have no idea what that means, Cain faced the minimum of batters — 27 — and didn't allow a single base-runner. That means no walks, no hits, no anything over nine innings (with 14 strikeouts to boot). If that sounds impressive, well, it is: Only 22 pitchers have ever thrown a perfect game in the 143-year history of Major League Baseball, and somewhat surprisingly, the list of those who've accomplished the feat reads less like a who's who of Mlb greats as it does a who's that? For every Hall of Famer (Cy Young, Sandy Koufax, Catfish Hunter) to reach perfection,...

Crafted to be a family-friendly tale of overcoming great odds and believing in yourself, The Perfect Game hits all the right notes for the inspirational sports film. Plus, it boasts a remarkable cast led by Clifton Collins Jr., Cheech Marin, David Koechner, Emilie De Ravin, Bruce McGill, and Lou Gossett Jr. along with a talented collection of child actors. No one can say The Perfect Game doesn’t have a lot going for it, and with William Dear (Harry and the Hendersons) at the helm, the only real failure comes from its extras and its script, with the latter being the most egregious problem. Really odd pacing and lots of jumps make it a somewhat disjointed story, but the cast helps the audience ignore it.

In yesterdays’s TCA panel with Terra Nova cast and executives, several interesting questions came up about the mechanics of time-travel in the show and the impact that the colonists could potentially have on the future of mankind…in the distant, distant future…85 million years in the future!
The Terra Nova Portal
This has been a common question on our forums …the concept of time travel is a thorny one for most people who know anything about physics. The storyline for Terra Nova has been reworked a couple of times in order to make it less polemic among the sticklers for physics, though, in order to deal with the criticisms:
“So many people had the idea they were going back to change history, we wanted to change that,” executive producer Rene Echevarria responded to one critic’s question. Essentially, the Terra Novites aren’t going back to change the future.

This one is coming up late, due to Criterion jam packing a ton of releases on Friday, right while I was finishing up the original post. I think they wanted to mess with me, which is very funny. But being the premier (and only) site that gives you the best coverage of Hulu Plus movies, I don’t mind taking the time at all. I’m hoping it has nothing to do with the recent shake-up going on that Josh just reported on the other day (here), and with Hulu wanting to be bought because of financial problems stemming from multiple sources, this makes one wonder what’s going to happen to the Criterion Collection and their deal with Hulu. I’m crossing my fingers that whoever buys the service, be it Amazon, Google or Yahoo (who is the frontrunner), it doesn’t ruin the deal in place for Criterion and its films.

Baseball movie The Perfect Game will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on Aug. 2 from Image Entertainment.
The independent family film tells the true story of the first non-u.S. baseball that won the Little League World Series. Cheech Marin (Machete) stars as a Mexican priest who, in 1957, helped a rag-tag group of poor, shoeless kids in Mexico and a down-and-out former major league player (Clifton Collins Jr. of TV’s The Event) as they embarked on a journey throughout the southern U.S. and into Williamsport, Pa., for the championship game. Along the way, they were nearly deported and weren’t allowed in certain restaurants or to travel in certain buses. But they overcame it all to win 13 games in a row and pitch the only perfect game in the championship. Emilie de Ravin (TV’s Lost) also stars.

We know you were losing sleep over it, so we're happy to be the first to tell you that Furry Vengeance and Yogi Bear are both eligible to be nominated for Best Screenplay Oscars on January 25. Also that Marmaduke score that has been wearing out your iPod? It's eligible too. However, the inclusion of these 2010 masterpieces really isn't that big a surprise. With final nominations just over a month away the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that 241 screenplays - 134 original and 107 adapted - are eligible for a Best Screenplay nomination and that music from 77 films is eligible for Best Original Score (not including Black Swan, The Fighter or The Kids Are All Right [1]). Add those to the 248 films eligible [2] for Best Picture and Oscar voters have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks. Kind of. See the full lists, the favorites and read the rules after the jump.

The AMPAS have named 241 scripts eligible for the Academy Awards — 134 original, 107 adapted. Unlike the WGA, Winter’s Bone, King’s Speech, Toy Story 3, Never Let Me Go, and How to Train Your Dragon will be considered.
The AMPAS have also released the list of nominees for best score. The list was narrowed down to 77 scores, which makes Best Original Score the 2011 Oscar the category with the least number of films under consideration. The scores for Black Swan, True Grit, The Kids Are Alright and The Fighter will not be eligible to compete this year. Clint Mansell‘s Black Swan score and Carter Burwell‘s True Grit score were disqualified attributed to a designation within Rule 16 of the Academy’s Special Rules for Music Awards (5d under “Eligibility”), which excludes “scores diluted by the use of tracked themes or other pre-existing music.” Meanwhile, the scores for The Kids Are All Right,...

41 Songs were declared eligible for Oscar's least cinematically relevant prize a short while ago. Wheeee!
We only didn't share them yesterday because every single damn thing happens in the same week. I'd be more excited about this category if recent years hadn't seen the big show trending away from original performers singing their original songs. If I can't see Cher doing her Burlesque number(s) on Oscar night, someone is going down.
The Academy will choose up to 5 of these songs as nominees, depending on how their voting goes. I've included video accompaniment when available - listen (and watch up).
Which are you rooting for?
Please god no. No more honors for this eyesore movie.
"Alice" from Alice in Wonderland "Forever One Love" from Black Tulip "Freedom Song" from Black Tulip
oooh, now this is more like it. Sadly, it's only a partial video.
"Welcome to Burlesque" from Burlesque

According to THR, 274 films were eligible in 2009, and 281 in 2008. If I had to guess which films will be selected I would have to say Inception, Black Swan, Social Network, King’s Speech, Winter’s Bone, The Fighter, True Grit, 127 Hours, Toy Story 3 and Rabbit Hole.

tEver look at the Oscar nominations and think, “Seriously how did that get nominated?” Well, a little peak behind the curtains reveals how your Best Picture sausage is made.
The Academy looks over all the feature films released in the present year and then breaks them down for eligibility under the following:
Films must be at least forty minutes long, which is the designation for “feature length.”Films must have their first public exhibition/distribution as a theatrical motion picture; no more than 10 minutes or 10% (whichever comes first) can be displayed in a “nontheatrical medium” prior to the film’s theatrical release. The publicly exhibited film must be within the following specs: 35mm or 70mm film, or in a 24- or 48-frame progressive scan Digital Cinema format with a minimum projector resolution of 2048 by 1080 pixelsAnd finally, the film must be available for paid admission in a commercial theater in L.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences have revealed the 41 songs that are officially eligible for Best Original Song at the Oscars, which will hosted by James Franco and Anne Hathaway, on February 27th. Anyone who has read The Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy looks at that headline and thinks, "They couldn't pick one more?" Nope, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced there are 41 songs officially eligible for the Best Original Song Academy Award that will be given at the Oscars, hosted by James Franco and Anne Hathaway [1], on February 27. This is an important category because the nominated songs are the ones that get performed during the broadcast. As was the case with the films eligible in the Best Animated Feature [2], Best Documentary [3], Best Visual Effects [4] and Best Short Film [5] categories, the most interesting part of this news isn't even the nominees. It's the incredibly complicated system of rules that's in place to whittle these 41 songs down to the nominees that will be announced on January 25. We are only two months away from the Oscars, and members of the Academy are hard at work trying to decide who best deserves one of those five nomination slots.
Today, they released their shortlist for Best Original Song which tops out at an impressive 41 songs.
But we can already make an educated guess as to which five will be competition on Oscar night based on who the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards favored, and none of them involve Justin Bieber or Debbie Gibson.
“I See the Light” from “Tangled” earned a Best Song nod from both, as did “If I Rise” from “127 Hours” and “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me” from “Burlesque.” Randy Newman’s “We Belong Together” from “Toy Story 3″ also seems a lock, since all of Newman’s songs for Disney/Pixar have scored nominations over the years.

HollywoodNews.com: The academy has announced 41 songs that are up for nomination in the ‘Best Original Song’ category. What songs will actually become nominees is still up in the air and will be decided through a vote using the averaged point system.
Potential nominees in the category show the wide range of spectacular movies that came out this year. Potential nominees include songs from motion pictures such as, Country Strong, Toy Story 3, Despicable Me, and the recently released Burlesque. Nominees will be chosen based on the average score that each song collects from voters.
This year was exceptional for songwriting in film and it looks like it will be a hard decision for Academy members looking to narrow down their choices. Songs must include both words and music that were originally composed for the film and must be featured prominently within the film or the end credits of the film.

Today the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the 41 songs up for contention in the Original Song category for the 83rd Academy Awards.
As for the nomination process, on Thursday, January 6, the Academy will screen clips featuring each song, in random order, for voting members of the Music Branch in Los Angeles. Following the screenings, members will determine the nominees by an averaged point system vote. If no song receives an average score of 8.25 or more, there will be no nominees in the category. If only one song achieves that score, it and the song receiving the next highest score shall be the two nominees. If two or more songs (up to five) achieve that score, they shall be the nominees. A DVD copy of the song clips will be made available to those branch members who are unable to attend the screening and who request it for home viewing.

Nordic Games’ follow -up to We Sing Encore, We Sing Robbie Williams features 25 tracks from the chart-topping artist – including tracks such as Angels, Rock DJ, Kids, and No Regrets (full tracklist), all of which are accompanied by the original videos and span Robbie’s 13-year solo career - plus the game includes his latest record, Shame, which features his Take That bandmate Gary Barlow, as an unlockable bonus track.
I absolutely adore music games – Singstar, Rock Band, Guitar Hero… You name it I’ve played it. However my experiences of music games on the Wii have been varied at best, some – like Band Hero – are a joy to play, whilst others… not so much. Like it’s predecessor, We Sing Robbie Williams falls definitely into the former category. And whilst I’m not a huge Robbie Williams fan, this is another great music game and definitely a credit to the We Sing brand.
