During the second world war in great Britain there was rather a crime spree.There was the infamous black market where people would buy items especially food "off the ration".This film clearly sets out to make the link between organised crime and the black market by implying that for example asking your butcher for"something under the counter" was no different to buying stolen goods,and that in fact you were worse than the original thief because without you the customer,played by a fairly young Irene Handel,the original thief would not commit the first act.This message is hammered home by Robert Morley giving the audience a stern lecture by speaking directly at the audience by looking straight into the camera.I have to say that looking at it now it is hard to believe that many people in the audience would accept the message since the black market continued to flourish throughout the war.
