Matthan Harris caused a stir on the indie scene a few years back with The Inflicted, and now he has a supernatural horror film in pre-production entitled Baphomet. Check out the first details, some early concept art, and more right here!
Harris serves as writer, director, and producer with Incisive Pictures on Baphomet. Emmy-nominated FX artist Jeff Farley designed the film's demon, and artist Simone Giongrandi crafted the teaser poster, both of which you'll see below.
Casting should be firming up shortly, and we'll keep you updated as production commences. For more info in the meantime, keep your eyes on the Baphomet Facebook page.
Synopsis:
A family in Northern California celebrates their 24-year-old daughter’s pregnancy. The celebration is interrupted when Satanic cult leader Henrik Brandr unexpectedly visits their ranch. Henrik offers to pay the family a large sum for ownership of their land, claiming it is sacred to his congregation.

I hear a lot of casual horror fans talking about the lack of quality horror films in recent years... and to some extent they have a point. Studio-funded horror films seem to be less prevalent than they were three decades ago, and many mass-marketed horror films are lighter on gore, nudity, and the like than the features of yesteryear (with the obvious exception of the Evil Dead reboot). But there are still plenty of quality horror films being made – it’s just incumbent upon horror fans to look a little harder. There are a plethora of well-made horror pictures being released every year; they just aren’t all getting the mainstream attention that they deserve. In an attempt to remedy that, and shine the spotlight on some outstanding films that haven’t received a great deal of publicity, we are showcasing five titles from the past five years that may have passed you by,...

Ever wondered how the classic John Hughes film Home Alone would have turned out if Macaulay Culkin's character Kevin McAllister had swapped his toy cars for a sawn-off shotgun?
The answer can be found in violent indie thriller The Aggression Scale, coming to Blu-ray and DVD from Anchor Bay on September 3, 2012.
Described as Home Alone meets Rambo, it sees Owen Rutledge take on a posse of hitmen sent to terrorise his family over an outstanding debt. The gang doesn't know young Owen has an emotionally-disturbed background of violent behaviour.
From up-and-coming genre director Steven C. Miller (Scream of the Banshee, Zombie Transfusion), the film is written by Ben Powell (Satanic).
It reunites Twins Peaks actors Ray Wise (pictured; Mad Men; the secretary of state in X-Men: First Class) and Dana Ashbrook (TV series Crash and The Kill Point), and also features Derek Mears (Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,...

Getting its debut at this year’s SXSW festival next month, The Aggression Scale has already been picked up in advance by Anchor Bay, and it’s being described as in the vein of A History of Violence with a younger cast.
The first trailer for the film has gone online ahead of its premiere, via Collider, and it’s a promising, action-fuelled, eerie first look at the film. Screening as part of the festival’s Midnighters line-up, THR report that the film
“is described as being in the spirit of the 1980s canon and in the vein of A History of Violence but with the teens as the heroes, taking on four hitmen over $500,000 in stolen cash.”
Directed by Steven C. Miller (Automaton Transfusion) and written by Ben Powell (Satanic), the film stars Fabianne Therese (the upcoming John Dies at the End), Ryan Hartwig (The Death of Socrates), Ray Wise...

It's hitmen versus teenagers in The Aggression Scale, one of the high-octane flicks playing in the SXSW Midnighters program. The film has a fabulous genre pedigree, with stars Ray Wise (Reaper), Dana Ashbrook (Twin Peaks), Derek Mears (Friday the 13th) and Fabienne Therese (John Dies at the End), and directed by Steven C. Miller (Automaton Transfusion, Scream of the Banshee) off a script by Ben Powell (Satanic). Okay, I'm sold. After the jump, check out an exclusive image from the film, as well as the full trailer. Editors Note: It was just announced that The Agression Scale was picked up for distribution by Anchor Bay.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center will again be offering its popular Scary Movies Film Series. And it’s not just any scary movies they’ll be showing. They’ve got classics, and they’ve got New York City premieres. They’ve even got Stuart Gordon’s live theater presentation of Nevermore starring Jeffrey Combs accompanying the screening of The Black Cat.
All right New Yorkers, check this out ... from October 27 to 31 Lincoln Center will present an ass-load of horror. Unfortunately, brevity is not one of their strong points so I’m going to sign off here and turn it over to the good folks of Lincoln Center to give you all the film titles and schedule. With NYC premieres of Ben Wheatley’s Kill List and Ti West’s The Innkeepers, along with a ton of other great titles, this is the film festival you don’t want to miss.

The Texas Frightmare Weekend ran this past April 29th-May 1st in Dallas, and as Dread Central's only North Texas operative, it fell to me to bring you everything I could from the con. Unfortunately, for the past month I was held captive by an illicit donkey show south of the Border that's also a front for a Satanic drug cult. Just the other day I managed to escape and file this report. Yes, I'm fine now -- but please, don't anyone call me 'Sniffles' or I might suffer a serious relapse.
Texas Frightmare Weekend is one of the biggest horror conventions in Texas; yet, somehow I'd managed to miss it every year I've lived here. This year I wasn't going to let that happen, and my coverage started with live tweets all weekend long so feel free to add me at MrDarkDC on Twitter and read back to see what you missed!

Horror remakes are definitely the hot new trend in Hollywood and I had no idea just how many remakes were being planned until I sat down and drew up a list of as many as I could find. I stopped at 7 pages and needless to say it seems that just about every movie you can imagine is getting a remake-prequel or reboot into 3D.
Here is a pretty complete list of upcoming horror remakes as of today in alphabetical order. Note: There are a few on this list that are only in the early phases of discussion and in some cases I included franchise reboots as well.
13 Tzameti: Starting the list off 13 Tzameti is more thriller then horror but still worthy of making the list. The film which started filming in New York awhile back will star Mickey Rourke and Jason Statham. The original film is a tale of Russian roulette with gruesome outcomes.

Fresh off a limited theatrical release and shot in Robo-monstervision, a black-and-white retro style reminiscent of old television series and even older movies, Automatons is a tip of the hat to the imagination and humanity of shows such as The Outer Limits and One Step Beyond. The deceptively simple cinematography evokes a time before big-budget CGI--and thus a time when theme and content were more important than empty action and special effects.
