Slow paced, but thoughtful. An interesting perspective with a solid cast

This movie was a treat to watch, but don't expect some lesson or moral or purpose to be spelled out for you. The characters are real, multi-dimensional, and the expressions on their faces convey a real depth and meaning.

Some may be disappointed how the movie wraps up, but a little understanding of the Japanese spirit and culture really helps in the enjoyment of this movie. A western person may feel perplexed when watching the actions of the characters and find it slightly more difficult to relate to the decisions they make in the film but many of the concepts and ideas are universal enough to be understood and appreciated by all.

This is a rare look into the birth of modern Japan, and how its suffrage movement was formed. The ending could have been more powerful, but the effect it has still resonates.
