This is the funniest episode of the A Team ever...
Soujiro15 August 2006
The A Team is all about cheese, but when a bar full of homophobic rednecks starts rocking out to Boy George, the show reaches a level of surreal ridiculousness attained by very few programs.

It's a perfect illustration of the strange and delicate balance that characterized the 80's between rigid adherence to gender roles and ultra macho men on one side, and the androgynous queer-chic MTV culture on the other.

I probably watched every A-Team episode two or three times as a kid, but this is the one that always sticks in my mind because it totally obliterated the fragile suspension of disbelief I had painstakingly held on to.

And yet, when Mr. T and Boy George, two males on the opposite sides of the masculine spectrum "bond" (figuratively) at the end, it's actually kind of a sweet moment. That Boy George is a sass machine when he kicks down that door. No one's gonna make him cry. You go George.

Funny episode

I don't do reviews but the reviewer before me pi*sed me off, firstly cause the automatic guns are in the van in the usual place any regular viewer would knows this, secondly a plane with no oil ain't gonna take off is it? And thirdly it was made in the 80s long before the cinematic tech we have nowadays

Ahead of its time

Warning: Spoilers
The guest appearance of Boy George and the rest of his group, Culture Club, was quite surprising for The A-Team, and I remember this episode when I first watched it when it debuted in 1986, and it was quite bold upon reflection for The A-Team to have Boy George as a guest star. Anyway, I think it worked well and probably eased the way for advances in the LGBTI field. Anyway, I became an instant fan of The A-Team when it made its explosive debut in 1982, although I didn't watch season five, but maybe I should. I would have liked for The A-Team to feature other big rock stars such as The Rolling Stones or Queen.

Bad Fantasy !
elshikh430 July 2010
While The A-Team's goofy time is one of my hobbies, this time I felt that having Boy George as a guest star was more like exploiting for getting a good rating in the show's most desperate days, while being "headed for the last roundup" indeed, by giving it a sort of unordinary flavor, and by attracting some certain viewers. Likely George himself was the one who wanted that the most to reach the common viewer; namely the heterosexual ones who used to watch the man's man's show. Or maybe both of them, at that very moment, just needed the other!

Apparently, it is usual A-Team episode at its format, action, and fun that meets the so opened MTV culture back then. However, the idea of original cowboys LOVING Boy George's effeminate looks, queer clothes, heavy make-up, too wired hairdo, British accent, and anything-but-country music IS without a doubt a clear fantasy that I couldn't accept or stand at all. It nearly seemed like a spoof of itself, ending up as a must see joke!

Add to that: the scene of Dirk Benedict elaborating about his problem with the bar's owner and George's contract was maybe the longest, most useless, dialogue scene in the history of the show. The moment of Dwight Schultz dressed like a woman was ugly and unfunny. Boy George's looks and performance looked HORRIBLE. His musical acts went on and on. I believe he paid the producers a lot of money just to let him kick that door in. And when he shares the screen with the 4 leads, while Peppard declares after the victorious action ride: "We're The A-Team", as if he's the unofficial fifth member of them, I felt real sick!

According to this fourth season, I thought earlier that (Uncle Buckle-Up) is the worst with explosives made out of kids' toys. After that, I though (Members Only) is worse with all the "wanted from government" team as members in a famous club. Then I was assured that (Wheel of Fortune) is the worst of the worst with Murdock as a more-than-once guest and winner in the most popular TV game show, who has no make-up on, and uses his real name, while being a fugitive from the military police AND a runaway insane???!!! But you know what? I was wrong, because nothing is worse, bizarre, and unconvincing more than (Cowboy George)!

The A-Team is mostly cheesy. Now this one is pure cheese!

One of the stupidest episodes
AG4JAZZ12 September 2016
While this show is totally stupid, this episode was the worst...boy george and his band would have been beaten to death for showing up in a cowboy bar, not applauded and cowboys rocking out to this gay band. boy george kicking in a door was hilarious and ridiculous...and shooting the plane, and it staling on the runway....give me a break sucka! Also, the phony way they picked the jail door was not possible and incorrect! The guns they got from the sheriffs office weren't automatic weapons, but they had them out of thin air, while shooting it with the thieves at the airport! This show is on starz encore channel, on after Magnum PI, and I normally change the channel. This show, in it's entirety is just plain stupid, and I don't understand why is was on the air so long...one season was too much.
