I enjoyed this episode even though it features snarky Officer Ed Wells in a major plotline. A little bit of the Wells character goes a long way. In this ep, the Wells snarkiness is subdued in exchange for worry-wartism. His niece has taken a job at the Police Station. She's absolutely gorgeous and every cop at the Station is well aware of it.
Since the young hunk Policeman, Jim Reed, is married, it falls to the older Strawberry Fox Policeman, Pete Malloy, to put himself in "Drive" and pursue the "young chick". This upsets Ed Wells to the Nth degree.
There's a subplot involving an older gent salesman whom the partners pull over. They end up having to haul the guy off to the slammer, which would leave his ware, a truckload of flowers valued at $300.00, sitting on the side of the road to rot. While this story goes on much longer than a typical Adam-12 storyline, it is rather sweet - there's a female love interest involved for the old gent. It's nice seeing M & R taking some extra time to help out someone who has, otherwise, broken the law.
Some great mountainside car chase scenes are also featured as Malloy spins some serious tires in an attempt to keep up with an awesome, severely speeding Chevy Corvette sports car. Surprisingly, Malloy hits the brakes when it becomes obvious that they've some how lost the Vette. It's as if magician Harry Houdini must have been behind the wheel. The Corvette is just suddenly gone. Later, a severely injured, crawling man is able to supply the partners with info pertaining to the "lowdown" whereabouts of the Corvette.
Elsewhere in the IMDB information pertaining to this episode, it's suggested that there is an "ick" factor to the Wells' niece storyline. The niece, portrayed by actress Tina Sinatra, ends up going on a date with another Police Officer. This Officer is portrayed by actor Frank Sinatra Jr. Therefore it's brother and sister playing characters going out on a date with one another. On watching the episode, I had no idea who was playing either role. So I certainly didn't know the two were siblings in real life. So not for one moment did I "sense" anything possibly icky was going on. It's the "pretend" characters who are going on a date. Not Tina and Frank Jr.
Not a spectacular episode of Adam-12. Just simply nice and sweet.
