An eerie tale starring a young Jack Lord
AlsExGal31 July 2016
I loved this series. I used to watch it all of the time on the old "Nick At Night" channel in the 80s. This episode really sticks out, and I rewatched it on youtube to pick up details I had forgotten. This episode is about genetic memory. Dan Gardner (Jack Lord) plays a commercial artist, estranged from his father for five years, who inherits his entire estate. The attorney shows him his real estate holdings, most which don't really interest young Dan, but one intrigues. His father was the owner of a burlesque house on the south side of the city that has been boarded up for 28 years. Dan decides to take a nighttime walk to see the place, is almost hit by a truck, and is hit in the head when he jumps to avoid being hit.

At this time he begins to hallucinate - so he thinks - as he sees the burlesque house, which by now he is right in front of, as it was 28 years before when it was operating. He sees things from his father's point of view. In his "hallucination" Dan sees that his dad was not the straight arrow that he always seemed to be, and he might just come to his senses and just think he was dreaming if it was not for what he finds in a big trunk sitting in the middle of the dancers' old dressing room. What does Dan find out? Watch and find out.

This is a very eerie episode about being the sum total of all of your ancestors' experiences from the beginning of time, and what if you could recall some of those memories? Maybe you would rather not and just believe the façade! Plus this shows that from the very beginning, years before Hawaii Five-O, Jack Lord was a fine actor.

Another good surprise

Warning: Spoilers
Yes, another good surprise this story starring the young Jack Lord, many years before HAWAÏ FIVE O. Actually ten years before the beginning of this long famous series, that made him a star. Here, in this episode, he was not known yet. He plays a young lawyer trying to deal the best he can the legacy of his deceased father: a small theatre specialized in burlesque. It remains a drama, more than the eerie side of the tale. You have to wait for fourteen minutes to, at last, feel the particular atmosphere every one seeks in this show. With this so wonderful sound track, that gives you creeps, or can prevent you to sleep quietly. I call it the ghost score. I won't spoil the episode further. Do appreciate for your own good.

Why is it that people have to die before you get to know them

Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILERS*** A pre "Stony Burke" and even earlier "Hawaii Five 0" Jack Lord is attorney Dan Gardner who's inherited his just deceased old man's real estate property which includes a shut down, for over 20 years, burlesque theater in New Orleans French Quarter. Told by his father's personal lawyer old man Timothy Welling, Ian Wolf, that his father shut the joint down for no reason at all even though it was doing knock out business Dan makes a trip there to see or get the drift of was was the reason for his father's strange actions.

As it turns out as Dan was about to enter the place he was almost side swiped by a drunken driver that brought him back some 20 years as his father when the burlesque theater was still in operation. It's there he met, as his father, his old man's top performer there singer and dancer as well as stripper Valerie McKay,Cece Whitney, whom behind his wife's back he was having an affair with. It doesn't take long to figure what was going on between the two lovers in old man Gardner breaking up with Valerie and she using a very incriminating photo, of him in the sack with her, to blackmail him.

****SPOILERS**** It's then that Dan woke up out of his dreamlike state and finally entered the theater to find, with the help of the place's security guard Stafford Repp in what was Valerie's dressing room a big black trunk which contained her mortal remains! You see old man Gardner in order to keep Valerie from exposing his affair with her ended up doing her in and hiding her body in the trunk. It was through genetic memory that Dan was able to figure out what happened but only after his father was long dead and not able to face justice here on earth. But as for him facing justice in the world beyond that's quite another story.
