Little Joe needs to put up his guns
LukeCoolHand11 March 2022
Wow. Little Joe needs to stop shooting at animals. This is the second episode only 26 episodes apart where he accidently shoots someone. The first time was the episode "My Brother's Keeper" where he was shooting at a wolf and wounded Adam when he didn't see him.. This time he was shooting at a mountain lion and the bullet ricochets off a boulder and blinds a woman. Stop shooting at animals Joe YOU'RE a MENACE. LOL.

This was a fairly good episode but a lttle weird because everyone thinks Joe may not want the girl as a wife if she gets her sight back . Well did they marry or not, did she get her sight back? Since I am the first reviewer, watch yourself and find out.

Warning: Spoilers
Okay, got a lot to say about this episode. Might sound like I'm talking out of both sides of my mouth with my review but here we go.

So Joe accidentally blinds a girl when he's shooting at an animal. He feels responsible and feels guilty. He feels it's his duty to take care of Tessa. The feelings double when he hears Tessa's brother complaining about Tessa needs a husband to take care of her because (in my words) he's not man enough to do it. This is your sister and he acted horribly towards her in the scene when Tessa was riding on a horse (!) and she was scared. Pretty accurate feelings since she ends up falling off the horse.

This episode is excellent and I don't want to take anything away from it. But I must admit the "You needs a husband" part left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not anti-man when I say that. I just feel like a tv series like "Little House on the Prairie" handled a young lady going blind better. Charles and Caroline didn't hunt up a man to take care of Mary. Dr. Baker insisted that Mary had to make do on her own and they sent her to a school for the blind so that way she could've navigated through life on her own. I realize tv Mary ended up getting married while real life Mary never got married. I just like the answer of sending Tessa to a school so she could learn how to deal with her life as a blind person. But don't worry about it, Tessa ends up getting her sight back like halfway through the episode. Tessa's dad ends up convincing her to keep on playing blind so that way Joe Cartwright would still marry her and the dad and brother could live it up in style off Cartwright money. Tessa's an honest person and you could tell she was horrified at the idea of doing something so cruel to Joe and to the rest of the Cartwrights. But Tessa goes against her gut judgment and plays blind. There's a few outings along the way. Ben catches her primping in front of the mirror and realizes she can see.

Tessa does eventually confess to Joe that she can see. But not before the double horrifying event that can occur. Let's get to horrifying event number 1: What was wrong with Joe in this episode? Tessa's an attractive woman and he didn't go into heat over her? Is my subject header correct? Hmm. And the second horrifying event occurs during the wedding ceremony. Tessa runs out of the wedding and goes to cry on the bed. Gotta be embarrassing to have the person you're marrying run out of the wedding ceremony in order to cry.

But don't worry. No wedding occurred and Tessa gets to live another day. :)
