Larcenous souls all
bkoganbing28 February 2019
Quite an interesting array of familiar players from the big screen are in this Bonanza story about among other things Beatrice Kay's yen to become the fourth Mrs. Ben Cartwright. That is not something that Lorne Greene wants but he might have to.

In fact other than the Cartwrights and sheriff Ray Teal everyone else in this cast has larceny in their hearts. Banker Charles Watts and 'reform' mayoral candidate James Griffith think they're selling worthless swamp land to two rubes. The 'rubes' Wally Brown and Dave Willock are looking to palm off a worthless piece of glass as a rare emerald. Saloon girl Joan Staley has the latest of con games going, the shell game. Indian Nestor Paiva is not above a little larceny at his souvenir stand.

But Lorne Greene might have to actually marry Beatrice Kay lest she prefer charges against Hoss and Little Joe who committed a robbery with the best of intentions. But she won't do it against stepchildren.

Beatrice Kay who came out of the British music hall tradition in real life as well has a few tricks of her own. She wasn't born yesterday.

Very funny Bonanza story.

The Case of the Jewel
mitchrmp10 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This is another one of the lighter episodes. Ben Cartwright does well in playing the Cartwright Patriarch. He doesn't need any help in solving his problems and can still put every one of his sons in their place with just a look.

In fact, the episode opens with all three boys having fun with their father who finds himself subject of rumor with an rather strange widow. But then when his sons try to "help" him out, they get him into a lot of trouble.

It's fun watching everyone trying to track down the real jewel.

Thankfully, nobody died in this episode.
