The Best So Far
rwalsdorff-121-19138830 September 2014
I am a fan of Bonanza and buy the DVDs as they become available. The last one that I just purchased was DVD official season 7 part one. I am watching the DVDs in order and the ;ast episode of Bonanza I have watched was entitled, "The Gamble" from DVD the official third season volume 2. There have been many good episodes with good guest stars like Dean Jones, Ben Cooper, among others that my family and I have enjoyed. "The Gamble" with guest stars Charles McGraw as the sheriff, and Ben Johnson as the deputy and Robert Sampson as Artie in that episode were excellent. Charles Mc Graw and Ben Johnson are actors I've seen in numerous feature films, and Robert Samspon I've seen in many television programs. He was particularly good as Artie Clay in "The Gamble", the best so far. Looking forward to watching more of Bonanza because the best episodes are yet to come. I haven't seen many of these shows since I watched them on television when I was a kid so I enjoy seeing them again this time on DVD.

Good, but one main issue

Exciting, but one BIg mistake.

They didn't ask to wire Sheriff Coffee!!! That is the standard thing, in all mistaken identities.

I can't believe the script writers forgot about this.

Also, the Cartwrights often mention out loud, in several episodes, the amount of money they are carrying, when out of town, in front of other people, another script writing blunder.

The best of the 430??
lcooke-2225521 May 2023
Is this is the best episode of the entire 14-year series? I would say yes. We all hate injustice, and that is what this story presents. While not known at the time, this episode ended up having an all-star cast, as Robert Sampson, Charles McGraw, and Ben Johnson, while already established, went on to stellar careers on TV and in films. The story flows well, and you will see Little Joe make a most unusual ride. The only episode that rivals this one is Kingdom of Fear.(1971). I will put those two as tied for the series' best episodes. This is a devious plot that plays out well and will keep your attention throughout.

The fate of the Cartwrights
bkoganbing13 August 2020
All four Cartwrights find themselves in a real jackpot in a small town where Charles McGraw and his deputy Ben Johnson are the law. The bank is held up and a teller killed and the money the Cartwrights are carrying from a cattle sale is thoought to be the bank loot.

They geta quick trial and a hanfinf sentence, but Michael Landon escapes.

Upon Little Joe's shoulders is the fate of the Cartwright family. That this is an inside job is obvious, but can it be proved?

Nic stry with good guest star turns. Little Joe comes back with a lot of help.
