PROBABLY THE BEST EPISODE OF THE SERIES
tcchelsey11 September 2023
You have to admit, it was a terrific idea on the part of producer Sherwood Schwartz to fly the Bradys out to Hawaii, this for a special 3 part opener for the 4th season. I also think the fourth season ruled because the kids had grown up more, were defining themselves and the stories around each of them were quite good.

Everything clicks, and no matter how many times you see it, it never gets old. Mike is assigned to work on some architectural plans in Hawaii -- so the gang makes it a mini vacation and that's when all the fun starts. There's a running gag with Bobby picking up a mini tiki, which starts spreading bad vibes to everybody who wears it.... but the best is yet to come. Some beautiful scenery and a salute to the fallen at Pearl Harbor, which was an excellent scene.

More over, would you believe the great Vincent Price would guest star? Price enters the picture in the second episode, playing a frustrated archaeologist who apparently lives in a cave and is waiting for his next big find? He's a show stopper and lets it ride. Price actually did other comedy episodes, working with the likes of Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett.

Adventure and mystery, and you can tell the gang is having a blast putting this all together. What makes any sitcom even better is the fact the cast is enjoying each other's company --and it shows. Additional kewpie points to Vincent Price, who you have to admit, is hammy and hilarious.

Ironically, prior to this episode, Price starred as the ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES, which was a dark, dark comedy about revenge. He was his old self for that classic thriller. Look for Philipino actor Patrick Adiarte as David, sort of Greg, Peter and Bobby's host on the island. Patrick began his career as a child actor and appeared on several tv shows in the 70s, such as HAWAII FIVE O and MASH.

This is cool stuff, and brings back a lot of memories for all of us Brady Bunch addicts, then and now.

SEASON 4, EPISODES 1 thru 3 remastered color ABC/ Paramount dvd box set.

The Hawaii Bunch
sambase-3877324 January 2022
Mr. Brady comes home from work and calls everybody into the living room. He has a package for them. What could it be? They open it up and see a bunch of plane tickets. This puzzles them. Then Mr. Brady announces that they're all going to Hawaii. The family screams. You know what they say, the family that screams together stays together.

The plane lands in Hawaii and they are greeted by the traditional Hawaiian lei greeters, beautiful young women who put flower leis around the necks of arriving people and kiss them on the cheek. When Mr. Brady gets his flowers and kiss Alice says that she is going to tell Mrs. Brady on him. Little does Alice know that Mr. Brady has much bigger secrets than that!

After going on a tour they go to the construction site, the one Mr. Brady is supposed to check on, that being the reason for the trip, and Bobby finds an idol that has been dug up. He steals it. Bobby, you're not supposed to steal stuff from construction sites!

The idol, which is supposed to be taboo, seems to cause all kinds of bad things to happen to the Bradys. That's the main story of the episode. I'll stop there for now. And I'll pick up in the next episode, which is of course part 2.

I've always loved this episode and of course give it the highest rating of 10. It's the Brady Bunch at their best. And don't forget parts 2 and 3!

Side Note: Back in the 70's I took a trip to Hawaii just like the Brady Bunch and on the first day I fell asleep on the beach and got a horrible sunburn that made me miserable for the whole next week. I had to stay in the hotel room and try not to move. If you ever go to Hawaii be careful of the sun!!!

TV Sequel Delight
BradyBraveJoel3 April 2020
The Brady Bunch is surprised and delighted to be going to Oahu - even Alice cheers and whistles (feigned ear-plugging by Mike and Carol). When they get there Bobby and Peter explore Mike's project (the reason they went to Oahu in the first place) and Bobby stumbles upon an ancient mini-statue. He makes it a "good luck" charm and wears it around his neck. To Hawaiians, this statue is Taboo and Taboo brings bad luck to all who touch. Events begin to unfold and the statue becomes an unwanted find. But the Brady Boys visit David "Lippy" Lipman and discover the way to ditch their bad karma... Will the plan work? Find out next week...

The Classic Hawaii Storyline

Mike has a business trip to Hawaii and the family and Alice come along.

Part 1 of what I think are the best Brady episodes. There is a great travelogue of the islands at the beginning. Their tour guide is David played by Patrick Adiarte. who was Ho-Jon on the M*A*S*H series. The plot gets going when Bobby finds a little idol and thinks it is a good luck charm. He doesn't know an old native construction worker believes it to be tabu and will bring evil to all who touch it. Don Ho has a cameo as himself, singing for Bobby and Cindy. Then some mysterious things start happening with the idol.Bobby is nearly hit by a heavy wall decoration. Alice finds the idol and her back goes out during a hula lesson. Then Greg gets into a surfing contest, Bobby gives him the idol to wear. It ends with a cliff hanger as Greg wipes out in the ocean and may have drowned.
