And in Again
Prismark109 December 2020
The final episode of the first series is a bit of farce but a dark tinged one.

Charlie Endell is trying to hive off some of his cash to the Bahamas with the help of a crooked accountant.

Budgie finally gets rid off that stolen fruit machine which he stole in the first episode. He gives it to Charlie as a present.

Only for the police to raid Charlie Endell and he quickly grasses up Budgie. Although Charlie also helpfully sends a lawyer to help Budgie out.

The police then try to fit up Budgie for not only handling a stolen fruit machine but they also demand a receipt for the shoes he is wearing.

At court, it is a case of standing up and sitting down for Budgie. I thought the joke wore thin pretty quickly on that gag.

It was all too broad and silly. Suitcases being mistakenly switched. DI Bryant was just childish. Charlie sends a character called Laughing Spam Fritter to get information out of Budgie.

Then there was that graffiti at the end. Even Budgie should had known better as he has previously been inside.

Budgie in the dock!

Warning: Spoilers
The first episode - 'Out' - ended with Budgie stealing a fruit machine from a cricket club. For most of Season 1 it was in Hazel's flat. When she chucks him out at the start of 'And In Again', it is dumped on the doorstep along with his other belongings. He takes it to Charlie's shop. Bad decision. The police stage a raid, asking Endell where it came from. Soon the police and Endell's thugs are chasing Budgie across London...

Great finale to a great series. One by one the doors slam shut on Budgie as everyone turns against him. After a farcical trial in which he is charged not only with the theft of the fruit machine but also the Carnaby Street boots he is wearing, the wily thief gets off lightly, only to be then rearrested by D.S. Bryant ( Derek Newark ) for daubing graffiti on his cell walls. John Rhys-Davies, later to play 'Sallah' in two Indiana Jones pictures, is Endell's henchman 'Laughing Spam Fritter'.

A second season was a racing certainty, although Faith announced before it went into production it would be the last.

Best episide of the first season

Warning: Spoilers
Poor old Budgie, he was never going to win was he? Charlie dumps him in it, Hazel kicks him out and the fuzz have arrested him on multiple charges. He didn't even know he had a suitcase full of money.

So skip to the court room scene which is hilarious, beautifully written and acted by all concerned. Budgie of course is re-arrested after being released asfter all charges are dropped and we are left wondering what his fate will be, on the season two.

Hands down the best episode of season one.
