excellent Campion as he investigates murder in the Farraday home
blanche-214 October 2015
Campion is drawn into murder, a missing man, and mayhem in "Police at the Funeral," part of the Campion series starring Peter Davison as the gentleman detective with the mysterious background.

When a member of the Farraday family goes missing, Campion and his manservant Lugg travel to the house, where he meets the family -- the matriarch, Caroline Farraday (Mary Morris), who knows Campion's grandmother but promises not to reveal his true background (possibly royal); her son, William Farraday (Timothy West) who has memory problems; the bad apple, George Farraday (Tim Wylton), and others.

George has disappeared; Marcus was the last one seen with him, but Marcus can't remember anything due to his memory lapses. George finally turns up, dead. Then there is another murder, this time of Aunt Julia (Gillian Martell) who was poisoned.

Campion is convinced the killer is in the house.

The story has an interesting twist.

This episode is listed as being released in 1989, so the actress Mary Morris had already passed away.

A good start

Campion is asked to investigate a disappearance of an eccentric man who lives in the Farraday household. And finds himself knee deep in intrigue, a uncle with a memory lapse and poisoning.

Definitely partial to a bit of odd characters living in an ancient house, rather ruled by an old lady - excellently played by Mary Morris. There's enough suspense and a driving build up to a poisoning at the end. Just loved the locations, production design and the array of characters.

Police at the Funeral: Part 1
Prismark1019 January 2019
The episode starts with Campion in a Sherlock Holmes costume by Inspector Oates.

Oates himself is being followed by a mysterious man before a lady comes to talk to Campion and the mysterious man runs off.

Campion is invited to stay with the Faradays. A strange eccentric out of date family living in a great mausoleum of a house that is run by the matriarch Caroline Faraday.

Her nephew Andrew a scholar who never worked had been missing for 10 days and then later found dead. Bound and shot.

Later someone else has been poisoned.

Again I found the first episode slow going. There are some acidic characters in this and a lovely appearance from Kulvinder Ghir as Mr Cheetoo an Indian student, he certainly has an aura of Sherlock about him.
