Goodbye Tiffany, Hello Julie!!
samimichalek11 July 2020
The Season 5 opener of Charlie's Angels is the best episode of Season 5. You have Christopher Lee as a slimy manager of a modeling agency with Dack Rambo as his sidekick. Also, the other guest stars are fantastic with Vic Morrow, Don Stroud, etc.

The Angels are hired to find Jody Mills because her father hasn't heard from her in awhile. However, he arrives in time only to find that she has been strangled in the back of Eddie's (a shady photography shop). While trying to find Jody's killer they meet street tough Julie Rogers(Tanya Roberts) and experience the interesting career of being a model.

This episode is one of the few and I mean few episodes in season 5 worth watching. Tanya Roberts is a great new angel and proves that she is more than just a pretty face.

Tanya Roberts' debut(!)
robrosenberger16 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
For this two-part debut of Angel Julie Rogers (Tanya Roberts - THE BEASTMASTER, A VIEW TO A KILL), the writing is solidly middling. But the episode is elevated by the genuinely creepy performance of coke-bottle eyeglassed Jack Albertson (CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, CHICO AND THE MAN). Plus Christopher Lee! It's also in the running for the most "that guy"-heavy ANGEL episode ever. Shelley Hack's departure is given about one line (they might as well have just said "Yeahhhh...she's gotta go see a guy, about a...thing"). Tanya's backstory has juice - a fashion model raised on the mean streets. Whether we're ready to buy it, is another story. But anyway, the times they are a-changin'...at least a bit. Remember that "once upon a time there were three little girls" intro? The puke-inducingly patronizing one? In this final season, it's gone! Kind of. It's now "three beautiful girls". I'm sure the producers felt very progressive. Now if they had just stopped calling women "girls"...

The Beginning of the End

There is a sense of been-there-done-that with this season premiere. It lacks the exotic locale change-of-scenery we were used to with previous season-openers and instead we are stuck in boring old LA for a standard caper set in the modelling industry. By this point, the Angels had gone undercover as models several times already so their "covers' here are old-hat and dull.

The impressive guest-star roster doesn't impress when alot of the actors are just phoning it in. Compare this with Season 2's ANGELS IN PARADISE where every guest character had charisma and the dialogue was snappy and witty throughout. I did enjoy Don Stroud as the slimy Jimmy Joy though.

Tanya Roberts' debut is impressive--especially compared to Shelley Hack's dismal first-outing in Season 4. So I think this episode is alot better than LOVE BOAT ANGELS. It's fun having Kelly trying to "read" Julie upon their first meeting where Julie is thought to be a criminal. And of course, Julie's toughness is a breath of fresh air compared to the haughtiness of Tiffany Welles. When she tells Bosley, Kelly and Kris to "back off" at Harry's funeral, she means business!

The best part of the episode IMO doesn't even include any of the Angels or big guest stars. It's the beach scene where former model Jody Mills staggers along the sand into the ocean to meet her demise after realizing she's fallen too far to crawl back out of the gutter. It's beautifully shot and has a VALLEY OF THE DOLLS vibe including quick flashbacks of what led her to decide suicide is the only way out. Such scenes were quite rare on CHARLIE'S ANGELS and this one has an almost cinematic quality.

Slim pickings in Season 5 for great episodes, and this one only has merit because it introduced us to the final Angel. Too bad the story and setting could not have been more original and fresh.

Christopher lee in Charlies Angels.

Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed watching Sir Christopher lee in one of Charlies Angels episodes. it was worth watching, he played a awesome part. Its a shame he wasn't in another episode.I through this was the best out of all the episodes. i hope to buy it on DVD.Do anyone else enjoyed Sir Christopher lee's appearances. I must admit this is very unusual for him to be in this type of film, but after all he tries his best.I prefer Christopher in a suspense or macabre film that suits him best. or maybe he should of done a few episodes on Columbo.I have several programmes i love watching and enjoy the cast but if Sir Christopher lee is not appearing in it i just cannot be bothered to rate it and watch it.
