Diane, the Protector
Hitchcoc16 August 2019
Diane's treatment of Frasier is almost maternal. He is an accomplished psychologist with significant clientele, and yet she thinks he is so fragile she has to look out for him. When Sam and the boys take him along on a fishing trip, he gets the old "snipe hunt" treatment. The way Diane reacts, you'd think the guy was a sugar plum. But Frasier is much more aware than we give him credit for. Good episode.

Frasier comes into his own
infoed-0183629 November 2023
Mainly acting as a wedge between Diane and Sam after their acrimonious breakup at the end of season 3, I didn't think Frasier Crane would amount to much. But then this episode came along. It's as though the producers saw the spark of something more so they actually gave Frasier something to do besides keep the main couple apart. And it worked. Having Frasier go on the hunt and be left alone as the men abandoned him and then come back to turn the tables was a good choice for the character. Suddenly Frasier was kind of funny and mischievous and not a one-note psychiatrist. And it worked very well.

This episode is a good turning point for the character of Frasier. And considering his legacy, it's a valuable episode as well.

The Heart Is a Lonely Snipehunter (#3.14)

Warning: Spoilers
Frasier is in a bit of a bad mood. Sam and the gang from the bar are getting ready for the fishing trip. Diane makes Sam take Frasier with them on a trip. They play a trick on him by making a snipe hunt even though a snipe doesn't exist and leave him in the woods. He comes back and Diane wanting to protect his feelings tells Sam and the guys not to tell him he was tricked. But this makes them go again with the trick, only Frasier already has figured it out and plans revenge.

An amusing episode with a great Frasier performance in it. The character is hilarious. And the twist at the end when Frasier turns out to know that there is no snipe makes it even better.

Frasier Stakes His Claim
dgplatt-6012119 March 2024
If one could point to an episode where Frasier truly became a part of the cast, it's this one. Ironically, it's all about Frasier's anxiety about being left out.

Frasier is going through a tough time, and Diane asks Sam to let him tag along on the gang's fishing trip. The guys haze Frasier by sending him on a "Snipe Hunt," which horrifies Diane. Everything gets thrown for a loop when it turns out Frasier likes it! Or does he?

Sam seems genuinely suprised when Diane tells him that Frasier thinks of him as a friend ("What a boo-bootiful guy") and feels a bit of remorse. But Frasier isn't the rube Sam thinks he is...

This where Frasier truly comes into his own as a character, rather than just The Other Boyfriend. This is the first time we see Frasier's manic energy and bombastic delivery that will become part of his character. He's still the bar's nerd, but the guys won't underestimate him from now on.

There's not much of a subplot, but any trivia nut can relate to Coach and Carla's dilemma. Eventually you'll run out of stumpers...
