Larry Hagman: J.R. Ewing
Quotes
-
J.R. Ewing : [as Sue Ellen tries sneaking away with little John Ross] When did she get back?
security : About a half-hour ago.
J.R. Ewing : Sue Ellen. Where you going?
Sue Ellen Ewing : [clutches John Ross] I'm going for a drive.
J.R. Ewing : I called the office from the airport. Phyllis said she had talked to you. Told you I was down in Austin.
Sue Ellen Ewing : So?
J.R. Ewing : So why are you going for a ride with John Ross at night when you thought I'd be away?
Sue Ellen Ewing : I'm going.
J.R. Ewing : Not with my son, you're not.
Sue Ellen Ewing : I'm leaving you, J.R. And I'm taking him with me.
[tries moving past J.R]
J.R. Ewing : The hell you are!
Sue Ellen Ewing : [gets grabbed by the security guy] How long do you think you can stop me?
[Pamela comes down the stairs]
Sue Ellen Ewing : You're gonna have to stand trial, and I'm gonna get him then.
J.R. Ewing : You're never gonna get him!
Sue Ellen Ewing : And if you go to prison?
[hisses:]
Sue Ellen Ewing : You can't stop me! You think a court is gonna let a criminal have his son? Oh, I'm gonna get him, J.R. One way or another.
J.R. Ewing : Get her out of here! Get her off Southfork and never let her back on!
security : Come on!
Sue Ellen Ewing : You can't have him, J.R. Because I'm gonna have him!
J.R. Ewing : I'd kill you first.
Sue Ellen Ewing : Well, you're gonna have to!
[yells:]
Sue Ellen Ewing : Because I'm gonna get him! I'm gonna get him!
J.R. Ewing : [to baby boy] Your mama's crazy, boy. Trying to get you away from me.
Pamela Barnes Ewing : He's her child, J.R. He belongs with her.
J.R. Ewing : [from down below] Stay out of my affairs, Pamela.
Pamela Barnes Ewing : Give her her child. She loves him.
J.R. Ewing : She doesn't know the first thing about love.
Pamela Barnes Ewing : She should have him just for putting up with you all these years. He"s the only decent thing that's ever happened to her.
J.R. Ewing : No wonder you care so much for Sue Ellen. She's just like your mother. Another drunken slut who ran away.
Pamela Barnes Ewing : [with utmost disgust] You slime. You make me sick.
J.R. Ewing : Keep out of my way, Pamela, or I'll destroy you. I"ll destroy anybody who tries to take my boy away from me.
-
JR Ewing : [after drugged Cliff lost consciousness] As my Daddy always said... The opera ain't over till the fat lady sings.
-
J.R. Ewing : [enters office] Morning, ladies.
Louella , Phyllis Wapner : Morning.
Kristin Shepard : [seated] J.R.
J.R. Ewing : Well,
[takes off his hat]
J.R. Ewing : Kristin. What a pleasant surprise.
Kristin Shepard : It's nice to see you too, J.R.
J.R. Ewing : Why don't we go into my office, have a little talk?
[Kristin leads the way, and he tells Louella:]
J.R. Ewing : Hold my calls.
[inside his office]
J.R. Ewing : What ill wind blew you into Dallas? I thought we had a deal.
Kristin Shepard : The baby's just fine, J.R. Thank you for asking. He looks just like his daddy.
J.R. Ewing : [turns around] What do you want?
Kristin Shepard : More.
J.R. Ewing : [amused] Do you, now?
Kristin Shepard : I'm tired of your little monthly checks, J.R. I picked up some very expensive habits in California... and I want you to pay for them.
J.R. Ewing : This is not the time to try to negotiate with me, Kristin.
Kristin Shepard : Well, now, I think it's the perfect time. Judging from what I read in the papers, you're making headlines everywhere. Poor Jock and Miss Ellie.
[shakes her head]
Kristin Shepard : They must be shattered. Think of how they'd feel if they read about a paternity suit on top of everything else.
J.R. Ewing : All right, but you gotta give me time. I can't pull too much out of the bank right now.
Kristin Shepard : Don't take too long, J.R. I'm not very patient.
J.R. Ewing : You'll be hearing from me real soon.
[deviously:]
J.R. Ewing : Where can I call you?
Kristin Shepard : [smirks as she gets up] I'll call you, J.R. Somehow, I'd feel safer that way. Don't take too long, now.
[heads towards door, turns back]
Kristin Shepard : Oh, and... give my love to Sue Ellen.
-
Phyllis Wapner : [on phone] Mr. Ewing is still at his office in Austin, but I'll make sure to tell him you called. Thank you.
JR Ewing : [enters] Hi, ladies, how you doing?
Phyllis Wapner : Congratulations, J.R.
Louella : We just heard on the radio.
[J.R. gets kissed]
JR Ewing : Thank you, thank you. Uh, Phyllis, get ahold of Leslie Stewart. Tell her I'd like to drop by and see her.
Phyllis Wapner : Yes, J.R.
Louella : Uh, J.R., Kristin's waiting for you in your office.
JR Ewing : Really? Well, I'm gonna buy out the Cattleman's Club tomorrow night. Get on the phone. Make a reservation. I'm gonna give a big party.
Louella : Right away.
JR Ewing : Oh, and when you finish that, type up a nice letter of recommendation for yourself, and I'll sign it.
Louella : [surprised] A letter of recommendation?
JR Ewing : Yeah, you're gonna need it when you go looking for a new job.
[Louella's face drops]
JR Ewing : I told you to get Claude Brown out of the country. His testimony almost put me away.
[goes through to his office, where Kristin is snooping through papers]
JR Ewing : What are you doing here?
Kristin Shepard : You promised me money.
JR Ewing : Did I? Well, things have changed, honey.
[chuckles]
JR Ewing : You're not getting another penny off me.
Kristin Shepard : I can make a lot of trouble for you, J.R.
JR Ewing : You're going to the newspapers, or maybe my mama and daddy? Y'all go ahead. It"s still not too late to press charges against you for shooting me.
Kristin Shepard : You'd never do that.
JR Ewing : Wouldn't I? You know, maybe it would be easier to send a couple of good old boys around to visit you. Make you wish you never heard my name.
[her eyes remain defiant, but she swallows hard]
JR Ewing : I'm going to give you a piece of advice.
[leans forward]
JR Ewing : Get the hell out of Dallas while you still can.
Kristin Shepard : It's not over yet, J.R.
[storms out, slams door]
