He has been an elusive villain and gunned a policeman down as he was asking routine questions in a jewellery store.
The only lead there is that Ryan had a girlfriend. A waitress in a diner called Laurie Dolan (Cathy O'Donnell.)
Lt Jim Conway is distraught over the death of the cop, he knew him and he wants Ryan.
Captain Matt Holbrook sends out Conway to talk to Laurie and find out what she knows.
Conway romances Laurie with a fast car and some charm. It causes a jealous Ryan to attack him.
This allows Conway to come out with a plan to lure Ryan into a trap. It means bringing Laurie in for questioning.
It is weird to see two almost middle aged actors being part of a love triangle. Laurie Dolan is heading for 40 and still pining for a childhood sweetheart who is on the wrong side of the law.
